NP2k is having another of its film making competitions. For those who don't know, NP2k was something of a sister site to the TFN fan film forums back in the day run by occasional DIF panellist Chad Peter.

The competition was started a few years back as a lot of the members had been working in the industry full time and wanted an excuse to just make a short film for the love of it again.

It's run a bit different from other filmmaking competitions in that you are assigned a "Studio" a team of a Writer, Director and Editor this forces you to make something you would not otherwise make outside of the competition.
You can find all the details over HERE.

I didn't have high hopes for Ant-Man but yeah, it was a really fun movie

Oh yeah, The Martian was ace.

I've been in and out of hospital over the last week but was finally able to watch it yesterday and loved every moment of it.

The best use of Chewbacca of any of the films!

I think it looks good, new aliens who look interesting, the crew being stranded, I wouldn't say that it is the same old same old

I didn't think we were supposed to talk about Owen's brother...?

there's a pretty sizeable chunk of Bond Docs out there.

It was probably Everything Or Nothing

Write it down, you've got the new clerks right here!

also -- perhaps seek therapy, if you're job has you so confused you shoot vertical video you're not in a good way!

I'm currently in the process of editing my wedding video, the best advice I can give is make sure you get a Norwegian and a frenchman to film it.

cool

Anyone seen the trailer for Moonwalkers?

There was a spec script doing the rounds a few years back that got some buzz on the blacklist called 1969: A Space Odyssey with a similar concept except it's the real Kubrick.

shame that this doesn't look half as good

Years ago I read an interview with the guy who's likeness was used for Dr Doak, when he was working on Time Splitters 2 he was slightly nonplussed to be asked how he felt about always being shot in the back in Goldeneye, the idea always struck me as funny.

Any likes and shares as always are greatly appreciated.

I really liked Ready Player One and thought it worked for all the reasons you obviously didn't. I also like that you've written this and probably agree with most of it.

There's a writer called Javier Grillo-Marxuach who does a great podcast on TV writing called 'Children Of Tendu' made the point that films needed to stop quoting Star Wars despite running a show called 'The Middleman' which did movie references every week and he's right.

I feel similarly about big ongoing movie franchises, I love Star Wars and Bond and would welcome another 3, 5 or 20 part film series that entertained me similarly but I don't want every movie to try and be that, I still want some movies to have, you know an ending!

But seriously, Ready Player One was a lot of fun and you are way to hard on it.

He wouldn't be my first choice, that would be Ron Moore but his TV record is much better than his movies.

Shame though because they will probably try to tie it to the new movies

Episode 111 - The Live Show!

On seeing Drew Goddard in the credits, my reaction was "Ah, that's why."

I do like Goddard but a lot of that is straight out the novel, I was quite surprised when the bit about Martian Laws was included, it's a complete side in the book but probably my favorite line.

hmm, I think I just reinforced your point.

I'm now watching Apollo 13.  smile
