It's been a long time coming, but I'm finally getting round to playing KOTOR. I actually picked it up (along with the sequel) during the last Steam summer sale, but I only really played it for a couple of hours or so. Now with the Star Wars Humble Bundle coming about, I decided to take another stab at it and oh, am I loving it!
It's been a while - but I did it, I finally did it. I bloody well loved this game, the last section in particular had me insanely gripped. My final playtime was almost exactly 30 hours, but Steam tells me my actual time spent with the game has been almost 50. It's been a long journey, but it was so worth it. I think I could do with something a little shorter for my next game though, hmm...this unplayed Portal 2 looks nice and shiny.
My main confusion at the moment is the sign up process. Is your RebelX identity the same as the actual screening event? Where do I see information about what extra items to bring?
On the site which you register with and get your character, there should be a link at the side for 'Equipment' or something. Click that and it has all the information for each character class. Your identity is the same from registration till the show, but the name itself is not too important.
I'm gonna do a good little write-up on it later on, but the long and short of it is that it was a lot of fun. You get what you put in to it though, if you go round getting involved with all the character interactions and everything, you'll have a much better experience. A highlight for me was acting as an interpreter between my friend and a Jawa, it was awesome.
This may be teetering on the edge of pop culture, but screw it - I'm excited. If you've never heard of Secret Cinema before, they basically turn a film screening in to a sort of immersive theatre experience. I actually first heard about them on here, not entirely sure who it was that mentioned them. Here's a little glimpse of what they did last year for Back to the Future.
Anyways, this year they're doing The Empire Strikes Back and it looks to be their biggest production to date. You get assigned a character & class to be (not someone from the movies, I'm a Galactic Explorer called Sang Lendix) and are encouraged to dress up in some sort of costume, so I've had fun putting that together. I'll be heading down to London tomorrow and hope to have a blast.
Also, I'm excited about no longer being unemployed - wahey!
I got this in the post today after forgetting I actually pre-ordered it a good while back, so I've been playing it for the past few hours and damn is this game a blast. It's one of the most fun games I've played in a very long time with a quite quirky concept (you're a team of shapeshifting squid kids shooting at other shapeshifting squid kids to cover an area with ink) and a downright awesome soundtrack.
I saw this the other night and yup, it was great. Apart from the name, I know absolutely nothing about the Mad Max series and I thought it played well to us newbies. I was expecting some more exposition, but I'm actually glad we didn't get that - just being thrown in to this world was absolutely refreshing.
Well, it looks like that one wasn't a fluke. I took another stab and got something else I'm proud of. No Photoshop goodness this time round though (apart from a bit of levelling).
Dragon Ball once again. I always doodled stuff from DB since I was younger, so it's kind of a way for me to explicitly see improvement from what I'm used to getting.
We've finally done it - we've recorded a film commentary! And keeping in tradition with FIYH and Title TK Podcast, it's another bloody Phantom Menace one! We've decided to do one each month for every Star Wars movie leading up to the release of Episode VII (with a break in November, 'cos WHOvember is a thing now). So if you're not sick of Episode I commentaries by this point, give it a listen!
It's also our second anniversary this week, happy birthday to us!
I'd agree with Praxus on that one. My first 'proper comics' were the likes of 'Batman: Year One' and 'The Dark Knight Returns' - things that are generally regarded as 'the good stuff'. Once I sort of had a grasp on the whole history of comics, I was able to appreciate the earlier stuff for what they were.
I was doodling on a scrap piece of paper earlier on and ended up with possibly the best drawing I've ever done. It's not much, but considering I'm historically horrendous when it comes to drawing - I'm quite proud of this.
Not much change since the last one I showed you guys, but I think I'm gonna go ahead and call it final (for now at least). I think I'd rather learn from my mistakes with this model and apply those to the next instead of pulling my hair out trying to get this one to do what I want. Besides, I really just wanna comp this thing now and see how it looks on some footage.
Thanks! Considering this whole process has basically been 3D improv ('Right, I have a box. Now what happens if I move this down here? Huh, looks kind of like a spaceship. Let's develop on that.'), a comparison to existing work is quite a compliment.
Apart from the initial, 'OMG I'M MAKING A THING!' excitement, I've felt the need to keep posting progress updates to demonstrate what you can do from a total newbies perspective. With Teague's tutorials, a little Googling and some thinking - you can make some pretty cool stuff.
