Let me know if the quality is ok. I had to mess with the mic levels a touch.

Also, when are we doing the sequel to this film where Tom and I have a holographic lightsaber duel of the masters? wink

Shoot, I got busy with another thing last night; I'll get 'er tonight for sure.

re: the Masters' showdown: I have worked on ways of making it possible for people to duel without being together in the same physical spacetime. (Once, I had to fight my own clone...) It's tricky to shoot but fun to VFXify.

edit:
Cut and print, great stuff FP. Thanks again!

I'll download that, thanks all the same Tom. We're going to degrade the dung out of it anyway, so don't worry about the lens thing. Now, on the other hand if the //performance// sucks we're going to need that reshoot... ;-)

edit:
no worries on that either. You really brought it man.

Fireproof brings the Master! I hope all the hype hasn't ruined me on it...  tongue
I'll have to listen tonight.

@Zarban: saber roto is complete, and thoroughly awesome.
What is currently in process is:
Tom is working diligently on the Darth Voyne holograms.
Screwball is fixing up the CGI probe droid model.
Teague is probably not working on Niken's spaceship exteriors because he got distracted by a butterfly or something.

I'll have to comb through the task list to give a better update, but off the top of my head I know we could use:
masking help (to help integrate the CGI elements into the live footage)
set extension artwork (to hide the Earthiness of the locations).
There is a job for anyone who'd like to adjust the saber glow settings on a shot-by-shot basis,
if anyone is interested in doing some of the CGI compositing we can certainly share that.
Also, we could use a CGI animator for the probe droid's menacing appearance.

I love this in principle, sight unseen until later...

This particular tribute video is pertinent to this thread.

It's your show, Zarban.
My level of commitment is still very high, fwiw, and I really appreciate the effort of all the folks who have submitted their various contributions so far.

Unfinished fan-films make baby Chewbacca cry.

Cool, screwball, that's why I keep bumping the thread, it is easy to forget.

Who else can use Maya here? Screwball is cleaning up, texturing and now potentially rigging the Probe Droid model.
We'll need an animator.
Maya can export via FBX which also works in things like Softimage and 3DS Max.

I'd like to just leave this here...
(no sound)

but I can't without this short story:

Teague was like, "Tracking, dude... shuh."
And I was all, "yer a pussy, dude, I'll do it."
But now I'm like, "Tracking, dude... shuh."

I'm re-running the first camera a few dozen more times to try to calm it down, but the 2nd shot is hella stable.

Also, we are officially looking for mask rotoscoping volunteers now!! As you can see, Straya and some foreground objects need to be masked back in over the (still technically temporary) matte painting of Starwarts.

Screwball, looks like you got yourself volunteered. For modelling anyway. (Hey, do you know anything about rigging, I'm asking for a friend.) We'll find an animator if you're not up for that. It's just a hardsurface droid after all.

Got a look at the Hogwart's shot tracking tonight. That shit is working. I also heard Teague was working on the lightning now, so I bet we see a sample of that before too long...nudgenudge.

It's possible we could have this fight sequence complete before the year ends... I'm going to have to find new ways to motivate that drew character.

Fireproof, how's your audio adventure progressing?

The roto work is pacing along. It's really striking how the fisheye lens distorts the blades in the closeups.
Has that been done in other fan-films?

Did anyone here ever watch "Beakman's World"?
He slightly pre-dated Bill Nye the Science Guy, and my kids recently re-discovered him on Netflix. He is a comic not a scientist but he clearly got good science advisors in the writing process. His show also coined the term, "Mythbuster," as far as I can tell.

Please define "important science."

Your example from pop-psychology supports the assertion that high-quality science journalism is both lacking and of high net future value. Education of the grossly misinformed public in the proper application of skepticism is the solution.

The day-to-day pursuit of science seems fairly boring compared to my ideal career, but the totality of the results can and should be presented in engaging ways. I'm sure we can all name several science popularizers with intellectual integrity, charisma and showmanship. They are simply too few, and concentrated in longer-than-YouTube-clip formats.

Yes.
The world needs (at least, and among other things) a middle road between reading the online pop-science accumulators, or trying to parse the jargon in an Arxiv publication.
