I decided to spend more time with my family.
My reaction is mostly that I can't believe the steering wheel was a balloon. Genius.
Yes, I was an early grizzler. And a late groomer.
The infamously godawful Christmas Carol parody/clip show episode never has been available on video - many people don't even believe it exists. But I saw it, I swear I did *.
Also the one where KISS and the cast of AfterMASH guest-starred together is just bizarre.
* unless that was a Fall Guy episode
Eleventy trillion points to Gryffindor for the Sha Na Na reference, btw.
Also, among all our cracking up during filming, the one thing that kept coming up was...
"...god damn, puppets are hard. We wish Trey were here."
So now you know. First step, larger world etc etc.
You magnificent bastards.
Shut your mouth, you lace-curtain Irish &*%*(*
I have a lot of love for The Departed.
How about we just erase your file, huh? How 'bout that? How about we erase your file and then bang, you're just another soldier for Costello open to arrest for I don't know how many felonies. Huh?
/also loves the Depahted
As long as this thread is open again, I had a thought regarding the "footprint in the snow". We all know these films were changed in the editing room, sometimes quite a bit. Is it at all possible that, according to the original shot list, that scene of the AT-AT's foot coming down WAS first? That it was later changed for pacing reasons? Whatever the intentions of the FX people, that all gets thrown out the window once things get deep into post production.
Could be, sure. Also, bear in mind that neither Phil Tippett nor I watch Empire Strikes Back a lot, and we're both very old. He may have mis-remembered the shot order, or I may have misquoted him in the retelling.
But what IS for sure is that Phil pointed out that shot as an example of the concept, and I think the concept is valid. I've applied it in projects since, and explained it to someone just three days ago.
I just started listening to all your commentaries recently, I getting close to halfway done,
well with ones that you are in anyway, they are my favorite.
See that, everybody? That's how you post properly in this forum!
*high five*
Thanks, but Trey already knew that. Poor Freddy Lounds... he was a douchebag, but he didn't deserve what happened to him. Still the most disturbing part of the movie for me.
P.S. Buffalo Bill isn't the villain in Manhunter, it's The Tooth Fairy. Though the role is played by Tom Noonan.
(Fun fact: I animated Tom Noonan's digital face in Robocop II.)
All Is Lost seems to be the most binary Love it/Hate It movie of 2013. *
I loved it, but I absolutely understand why someone would hate it.
* Except maybe Upstream Color, which I haven't seen yet.
Fair point. If that was part of the reasoning, then I applaud the attempt to counteract the sausage-y nature of the source material.
Better still, they could have done something truly daring like maybe cast Halle Berry as Nick Fury, or make Hawkeye female. Which I would have also applauded, if only to see the fanboy apocalypse that would have resulted.
And I stand by that statement.
My point was - and is - that character should have died in that opening scene, because she serves no purpose for the rest of the movie other than occasional set decoration and exposition absorbent.
As I recall, somebody in the commentary clued me in that the character is somebody "from the comics" or that the actress herself is on a TV show (or was it both?). Either way, that solves the mystery of why she survives an event that invariably kills supporting characters in most movies. She's fan service, and we're supposed to think "Yay, there she is! Go, you from TV and/or comic!"
But since I didn't have that info, I thought "why are we spending so much time with this day-player who's clearly going to be dead in three minutes?" And when the cause of her death arrived right on cue... she didn't even die! Instead they weaseled an excuse for her to survive it.
The marketing department may have needed that character but the story the movie was telling didn't. And so I say again - a mountain fell on her. She should have died.
I assume if I binged on a few seasons of his tv show, then next time I saw the trailer I'd think "Yay, my buddy from TV got a movie!" instead of "Okay, show me what ya got, stranger." But I don't have that kinda time right now.
Well, see - if you've been watching this guy for years on TV then sure, you already like him and you know he can be funny.
I've never seen him until this trailer, and what I saw there makes him look like the next Taylor Kitsch. I'm still giving him the benefit of the doubt, though.
It's a flawed but entertaining film.
Watched this to see if my stuff is in it. It is, for about two seconds. (1:12)
For the record, first mocap CG character in a feature film. Where's my Life Achievement Oscar? Still waiting...
Damn. Clickbait right here in our own house. Welcome to Buzzteague.
For Hollywood tentpole movies he is, yeah.
The lead "doesn't bring much"? Look at him go, dude's funny and carries a presence.
He's not funny and carries no presence is exactly what I meant.
But in his favor, he seems capable of reciting the words in order and he has abs.
I'm reserving judgment because maybe his good stuff is in the rest of the movie. Just saying I don't see it yet here.
Meanwhile... Zoe Saldana's demented smile? I like THAT character already.
Star-Lord is Jack Sparrow from the first Pirates movie, the guy who desperately wants to be notorious.
Except that guy ain't no Johnny Depp. I'm good with the wacky premise and tone. Except for that lead, who doesn't bring much to the party. More and more movies seem to be casting abs, not actors.
That's a role that requires "Nathan Fillion, but younger" to make work. From what we're shown here, new guy isn't bringing it.
