Performance art, i love it. You tell em Greg, we're on your side. Hey, at least they didn't yell at you to shut up with a straight face for saying "this is the worst commentary ever smile" while they were waiting around during the live chat; and this shortly after they started taking donations based on your suggestion.

That's a very nice, dreamy kind of illustration. Wiki says Japan launched 9,000 of those things. Scary shit.

Wait till he hears The Abyss, he'll love it.

A suggestion: Filmspotting sometimes mentions other podcasts like Creative Screenwriting. If you could get them to plug DIF you could increase your audience big time.

The closest theater playing this is 900 miles away. It is rather unlikely that I will go see this movie.

That's a good example of when filmmakers say "vote for the type of movie you like with your ticket-buying dollar", the answer is: it's not that easy. I don't want cinemas to disappear like drive-ins or like music on physical media, but it's so easy now. If i was a theatre owner i'd sell it and get into the ISP business, everyone's going to just stream movies.

Maybe this movie (which i haven't seen yet) should've been marketed as "it only cost $15,000". It's like i want to go see movies made in my country but which ones (if any) are they? They never say in the trailers or ads.

Oh, you kids today with your jet setting across the country and whatnot. Nice to see that creepy weirdo Jeff. Who asked about the rally on the plane, one of you guys or someone else?

Was that Teague on the piano? A nice short film, i almost expected some quick credits at the end.

I have to admit, after reading (iirc) James Randi's take on the film and those involved it's a bit harder to sit back and just enjoy it. It's still good and well done, but there's now an undercurrent of "ah, they're serious about the UFO stuff... okey dokey..."

Do you have a link, i've never heard that. I always took the odd casting of François Truffaut to mean his character was the only "enlightened" person in the movie, and that Spielberg believed.

There should be a car chase, a fist fight and an adorable animal sidekick. Maybe an orangutan.

I'll settle for an Executive Producer credit.

Damn, that looks great. Dick is so badass it can roar underwater! Exciting trailer, great music.

I'd like to place an order for a DVD autographed by Trey and Megaforce's Barry Bostwick right now, please.

Looks like the costumes aren't happening so how about best movie going experiences?

1)  Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.  When me and 3 buds (wasted) saw the part where Chow Yun-fat chases Zhang Ziyi we were like 'wtf?' A lot of the audience reacted too. I looked over incredulously to my friend who was laughing and he said "they're flying". Always makes me smile.
2)  Weekend at Bernie's.  It was popular, i went with a date, the theatre was packed. Everyone laughed their guts out. Next time a saw it (either on vhs or tv) it was 'meh'. There's something really special about sharing an experience like that with a big theatre full of people.
3)  Dune.  I really wanted to see this thing. I had already read the tie-in paperback. I drive with my older brother to the nearest theatre 50 miles away, in my POS '76 plymouth fury wagon, in a blizzard with foot-high snow drifts on the highway. I fell asleep. We met a young couple who were stranded and gave them a ride to a motel back home, which was halfway to where they were going. They asked if i'd be willing to drive them home the next morning and make some money. I agreed even though my brother didn't like it because of the snow. I had recently gotten my first car and i wanted to drive and drive. The next morning i can barely get to the car because of the snow. I call them up and they ended up taking a taxi all the way home. Not really pleasant, but memorable.
4)  Contact.  During the long silence at the beginning, munch munch munch of people eating popcorn.
5)  Uncle Buck.  In downtown Toronto on a nice summer afternoon looking for work. I decide i'll go see a matinee which i'd never done before. Hart warming movie. A pleasant experience that stuck with me.

If you have some stories please share.

Otherwise, top 5 modern buildings.

Don't worry they'll change their minds again, and end up doing Polyester or something (don't forget the scratch and sniff cards).

They should probably do the director's cut. Is the theatrical even available on dvd or bluray? I'd choose the theatrical because it has a bit more of the weird 70s vibe, which is one of the things i like about it, but that's me.

To be honest i'm glad Phase II never got made. It would've been awful. Would it have had Kirk/Spock/McCoy? Ilia was already cast for it. I love her (i wish) but not every week, especially it she was meant to replace Spock. Although, a chick from the sex planet offers lots of story ideas. But the FX would've been bad; no better, or worse than TOS. There was no ILM to call in the mid-70s. Or maybe it would've been the best Trek ever, we'll never know.

On first viewing there's a lot (OMG there's Brian!) of wtf. Each sound bite didn't suggest a story in a obvious way. The 2nd time, i got (OMG Brian!) it. Last night on earth. 400ft tall woman, i love it. Awesome.

Sorry to be confusing. I was talking about the 'live-in-person' thing mentioned at the top of this topic. Not important, i was just curious.

I like Tron but haven't seen 2012 yet. Not a big John Cusack fan.

I'll have to check out NotLD. It'll be interesting to see now that i know stuff in this movie is happening at the same time. When Trey talked about screaming, i believe it. I didn't see this in the theatre, but saw Friday The 13th a little later. When the arm comes out of the water at the end, we screamed our asses off. Then walked through a cemetery and over a long bridge to get home. Back in the day us un-jaded mofos sang like canaries.

The Trek movies are coming? Good news! Just listening to ST: TMP (which i like a lot) will be a riot knowing that the guys don't like it much, but'll still have to somehow do a good commentary.

To this day i still wonder what set of circumstances led Bones to get into the pimp business until Starfleet re-drafted him. And all of them have some good bits. Like the play-like scene with Bones' dad in ST: TFF. [s]And Nemesis had... a jeep.[/s] Almost all of them.
