Didn't you reverse the polarity?

As long as he is still contributing, I'm not complaining. The only thing worse about the site being not updated is not hearing from the man, the myth, the legend that is Zarban.

Also, I read all of the American Girl books as a youngster, and still enjoy reading the books "to my girls" wink

Well, that's sad and understandable at the same time...

Also, it seems appropriate that there were several American Girl Amazon links as ads on the page as I read your note. Also, I would be curious to find some commentaries on the Felicity movie, as my daughters enjoy it. N

Good luck in your endeavors! smile

Looks like we're gonna be judging this stuff on Saturday; judges Weebs, Eddie, Anthony and Antoine presiding. I don't have any more information than that at this point, been out of the loop on this year's contest.

Glad you guys are able to do it this year again smile

I ended up stumbling upon, I believe, an older entry, that was about Luke fighting Maul on Tatooine. Again, not the best of choreography but a interesting concept.

I'll freely admit that I enjoyed the tone, the music, and the style of it as well as some of the combat.

Was the choreography the best? Honestly, I have not watched all of the entries and there are certainly some weak spots.

But, I enjoyed it a lot.

It ebbs and flows for me. I cared little for Matt Smith, and even Tennant by the end of his run. Even Capaldi has his moments of me just rolling my eyes.

But, I'll give them this much-the season opener interested me enough to make me curious and watch it again.

Indeed.

I knew that several fan edits would come to light, but there is some genuinely good scenes and acting the Hobbit trilogy. It is just drowned out in excess material.

By the way, I have not forgotten my attempt at a review audio podcast. I just decided to wait for the EE so I can see all the material and make my evaluation.

I doubt there will be enough to salvage it but I'll least have seen it all.

I kind of liked how it tied back through out the Doctor's various incarnations as to his interactions with the Daleks.

Again, just a fascinating insight in to the Doctor's psyche, in my opinion, so it keeps it interesting. Capaldi is my favorite Doctor in the modern era thus far.

That's crazy!

So,  I decided to catch up on some Doctor Who now that school is done for the quarter (tough quarter all around). I had not watched much of Matt Smith but Capaldi's performance interested me, so I got through most of Series 8 and saw the latest episode "Sorcerer's Apprentice".

First of all, Series 8 was interesting because it wove the thread of the Doctor's question "Am I a good man?" throughout with the final speech in "Death in Heaven" which really was interesting from the Doctor's point of view. Just really in depth, psychological questions that I found rather intriguing.

Christmas special was rather odd, to me, but it was ok.

Which brings mean to "Soccer's Apprentice." Fist of all, Missy is a rather interesting character. Not sure I'm 100% on board, but intriguing none the less.

Secondly, it may be a tired argument, but the cold open of the boy with the hand minds (or whatever) was very well done, and the moral conflict that comes about fascinates me. So, I'll be curious to see how it plays out.

Herc, you asshole. You don't open a post with "LAST WEEK, steam had a sale". You advertise the sale that's going on now, fool!

Deus Ex trilogy (plus a port of a mobile game) available on Steam, until Friday, for the princely sum of $7.73 (CAN)!

If anyone has yet to experience Deus Ex, now's the time!

My name is Erich and I approve this message.

No, not the laser moon!!!!

Also, I don't know how I missed it, but this video of "Mario Warfare" is an interesting work of fan production.

I'm sure others have heard of it before, but I had to share it:

My going into 7th grade niece was crying her eyes out during this.

Originally a twelve episode TV series, it's now two movies available on Netflix streaming, along with a third film set afterwards. The concept is simple: it's a Magic Girl show. Young girls are told that in exchange for a wish being fulfilled, they will become Magic Girls, powerful creatures who save humanity from Witches. It's a win-win situation! Who would say no?

I'm not familiar enough with the genre to know if there have been deconstructions like this before. I can't believe there haven't been. Regardless, this show is incredible. The world is well thought out, the writing top notch. The animation... well, how they managed this on a TV budget I'll never know. The style during the Witch battles becomes this Victorian/ Terry Gilliam affair that just grabs the eye. The dubbing, too, is rather good.

I don't want to spoil the plot. Let's just say every choice has a consequence, every life saved must be balanced with a death. And, most importantly, never trust cat bunnies granting wishes. Even if you hate anime, give the first movie a try.

Doesn't reach the dizzy heights of Ghost Protocol, but a solidly entertaining entry. Some truly death-defying stuff from Cruise yet again (the diving sequence from the trailer is incredibly impressive, and the huge car chase set-piece is deftly handled as well), and the cast are all likable and engaging (this is the first movie I've actually liked Jeremy Renner in). There's a great sense of humor throughout, which is much appreciated. The only major complaints I have are both technical—first, while this isn't color-graded within an inch of its life like most similar movies these days, the orange sheen to everyone's skin is rather offputting. Second, the strobe cutting early on is extremely irritating; one early sequence in particular was bloody impossible to decipher due to the number of cuts per second. This got better as the movie went on, but I was bothered enough by its early appearances to be taken out of the experience.

Before Mission Impossible 5: Rogue Nation, there was a trailer to The Man from Uncle, and posters outside to Spectre, and earlier this year was Kingsman. Starting to get spy-thriller fatigue. They're turning into Marvel-esque overload. Plot's always the same: spies have to chase some MacGuffin through exotic locales with some babe in an opera gown, using gadgets & quips, etc, all while not getting their styled hair messed up. Villain is some generic PC (can't offend anyone!) group that finds humanity degenerate and so we must start again by destroying everything.

Write down all forms of transportation on pieces of paper and throw them in a hat. Now pull out one piece - that's the chaser. Second piece: the chasee. Third piece: The chaser or chasee changes their vehicle mid-way through chase. Now which country is giving you the best tax credits this year? That's where we'll set it.
And what crazy stunt haven't we seen yet? Let's write a scene based on that. Repeat for five actions sequences (they cost $20M each and we got over $100M budget based on the A-list star) and get the algorithm to shuffle the scenes until we get something vaguely coherent. Or not, doesn't matter. It's a thrill ride.

Is there a "Mad Libs" for Screenwriters?

Google Serach...

Wow, Internet.

Anyone watching HUMANS?

Robots are domestic servants, a British re-make of a Swedish series.
I watched the first six episodes, but ready to bail out.
None of the characters pass the PLINKETT test. The entire main family mopes about incessantly.
There's a rogue sentient robot sub-plot that's been done better in Blade Runner. Episode after episode, we're only drip-fed the back-story.
Is it just another allegory for slavery or discrimination? Even worse, I can easily see this descending into standard soap tropes.
On the plus side, some of the actors playing robots look reasonably convincing - almost in the uncanny valley.

There's so much that could be explored, but this series pulls its punches. It doesn't have the budget for world-building (the impact on the economy would be huge). The rules on what the robots are and aren't capable of aren't clear.

Awaiting the American remake of the British remake of the Swedish series...

Third time is the charm?

I'm always a fan of pilots in space, so that's why I enjoy it so much.

It just could have done better with a different villain, but it does lend something to their menace that they are hardly present.
