*based upon real events in the "Wanted" commentary*

If you could pick a plane, what would it be?

Teague's was an SR-71.

Personally, I would choose an A-10 Warthog. That has some serious firepower.

Anyone else?

Sweet. I will have to download that and take a listen. Always up for good Trek discussion.

Finally saw this today.

I agree with Eddie.

Sorry for the bump but I just noticed this thread.

I saw it as well and liked it a lot. I found the characters to be well developed an interesting, but the villians, not as such. I knew enough of Norse mythos to know that Loki would end up going bad. I didn't expect his turn and then return.

Spoilers:
The Frost Giants were not enough as villians. They should have been either the final bad guy and threaten Earth in some way, as mentioned before. Though, Loki's attempt to destroy the Frost Giants via the rainbow road seems to threaten the rest of the realms, besides the Frost Giants. At least that was my impression. Someone can correct me.

The best part is the scale of Asgard. The style choices, the costumes, the feel of the world, and landscape all felt appropriate and enough magical to fit the story.

I assume it's the Brendan Fraser one, they've talked about doing that one before.

That would be epic. I think the new "Mummy" series is well done and would be fun for DiF to do.

After listening to "Riddick" commentary, I think "Dune" should be done. The 1984 version was supposed to be groundbreaking in several ways. Sounds like perfect DiF material.

You could always forget the movie and do a straight commentary on their commentary smile
"OK, pause your copy of the DIF commentary for Dark City after Teague says '...and the Amazing Trey Stokes' and turn the volume down to low. When I give the signal, hit unpause and it'll be like listening to 8 voices in your head."

Which will only further the insanity I feel on a daily basis...
Oh wait, did I say that outloud wink

I think I figured out the main problem the DiF crew had-it's Vin Disel and they do not seem to react well to him. That is a problem when he is the central actor.

I second the motion, given Matt's rant on the Riddick thread.

Oh, Matt, what have you done *leaves before the brawl*

I agree with Matt, for the most part, as many of the gripes I heard seemed to be answerable in the movie.

I think that the main problem with Riddick (I will not call it a perfect movie, by any definition) is that the threads were not pulled together in such a way that people could follow it in a linear fashion. Is it enjoyable and entertaining? Yes.

I enjoy the world a lot, and want to see more of it.

Not just that, but wasn't this supposed to be the first in some kind of trilogy or something? They still talk about making another one. At the end of the flick he is now in control of the most powerful army in the universe. Assuming the next movie isn't about the sudden arrival of some interdimensional space demons he has to fight with his new army, where do you go from the end of this movie?

Yes, and the new movie should be being produced shortly. Riddick is one of Disel's favorite roles, and he wants to get back to it.

I do not think it is a matter of continuity. I think they could not decide what kind of movie and what scope and Riddick's role is bigger and he is the last of his kind. It's a new take, and not all the threads are joined together completely, I will concede that. My point is that, overall, I get the flavor of the movie very well, I understand the Necro's purpose and think that the Lord Marshall probably took the more "convert or die" mantra to an extreme. That was always my read, that he was obsessed in eliminating every threat.

For the most part, I agree with Zap.

First of all, you guys did a great job with this commentary. It was entertaining and constructive, without being a total slam fest, which I don't think you want to do. You guys made me think...for good or ill...and here are my thoughts:

1: Plot summary: Every since "Pitch Black" and the statement that that movie could be summed up neatly while "Chronicles" could not. So, I figured that I would summarize it. "The fate of the universe rests with a murderous loner to try and stop a marauding army led by a crazy half-dead." Not perfect, but it works, IMHO.

2. I saw this movie before "Pitch Black," and was not familiar with the movie at all, so the tone and feel did not feel off to me. Yes, it has more of a fantasy epic feel than a hard sci-fi piece, but that does not take away from the film. However, I do agree that they could not decide what kind of movie this was going to be, and that muddies the film a little, making a few scenes feel a little out of place. Overall, though, I think the world is very interesting, and engaging, which drives me to enjoy this movie.

3. Yes, I get the Necromongers  motivation. We are told they will "kill or convert" every human being. In this way, they are not different than the Borg or the Empire in their desire to dominate the galaxy.. I find it interesting that we accept that the Empire in Star Wars as evil but all other bad guys must be defined and defined well.

4. Perhaps the point I want to emphasize the most is that in this movie Riddick has character development. In "Pitch Black" he is just a killer or happens to be able to save them. In "Chronicles" Riddick goes from being a loner, to having some relationships with Kira and Iman. He cares enough to risk going into the middle of the Necro army and take on Iman's killer. He manipulates the Mercs into going to Crematoria where he knows that Kyra is, based on what Iman told him about her. He goes from an anti-hero to reluctant hero, as he is forced to take on the Necro army.
I think people who watch Pitch Black then Riddick have a problem because Riddick goes from player to main character. While Riddick is an interesting from a character standpoint, having him be the main guy upon which the whole movie turns perhaps is a dramatic turn and not everyone reacted well to it. I personally enjoy Disel's performance, but not everyone will.

Sorry but the Stargate geek in me is screaming in pain and horror right now.

SG-1 had 10 seasons, Atlantis had 5 seasons and Universe had 2.

Yes I did that from memory, what's it to yah!?

Oh, the SG geek in me died a little too as I wrote that. The SG movie commentary would be like a consolation prize to me in order for others to appreciate the coolness that is the SG franchise.

On another note, I'm surprised the DiF crew hasn't done any of the X-men movies. I mean, talk about nerdville. Maybe Teague might not cry as much as he did with Spiderman.

I think that all the Pirates will be done, just because it satisfies Teague's OCD about finishing series

I tend to think the series has had more influence. Rewatching the film recently I was struck by how much more enjoyable the series that followed it was; more character development, better realization of the world, and more humor.

I agree, but DiF taking on all 8 seasons is a little daunting task, don't you think? I mean, it sounds cool, but they have not even done Lord of the Rings yet wink

I agree the series is more enjoyable, but the movie is still a good flik, in my opinion, and worth analyzing.

Don't know whether this has been suggested before, but how about doing Stargate?

I loved this movie when it came out and just watched it the other day - I think it holds up well. Great set design and special effects, an interesting story (twist on the chariots of the gods concept) and some great performances from Spader and Russell. Sold?

I agree. I think DiF taking on Stargate and its influence on science fiction would be interesting

Back to Pitch Black, since I have no idea what is going on...

I honestly have not watched the movie all the way through, but listening to the commentary made me want to watch it again. I personally prefer Chronicles of Riddick to this film, but as Brian mentioned, I may respond to Vin Disel as an actor, while some may not.

I look forward to the next Riddick commentary, where I will probably be one of the few Vin Disel apologists.

I think LOTR would be a blast.

I also would like to suggest Pitch Black, Chronicles of Riddick, and Dune.
