One of my guilty pleasures is the (1991) Sometimes They Come Back TV movie. Its a short story by Stephen King. I love this little low budget flick. I think the Robert Rusler character is really well played. I was a big Robert Rusler fan after watching him in Vamp.

I also think the story is very errie and dark.. You can really tell its a King story. It has the same feel and vibe as pet cemetery.

I bought it off Ebay a couple of years ago on region 2. Its quite rare, because it was only released in the US on region 1. But its a good transfer.

Awesome film from start to finish. Every thing about this movie rocks! One of those flicks you can watch again and again..

But one question...

Was Deckard a replicant.. and is that why the Roy Batty character doesn't kill him at the end...?

Ive never watched it with the commentary on or making of etc.. i expect it tells you on that, but ive always wondered if he is or not.

Yes, its a very dark and gritty flick. I really enjoyed it. Also because i have family who live where the film was shot. Dog soldiers rocks! ive never really been into Werewolf flicks.. only that and American Werewolf in London i find entertaining. Oh yeah, Silver Bullet! that rocks too.. Corey Haim RIP

Anyway..

When you get chance, i recommend you watch THIS IS ENGLAND and if you enjoy it, watch THIS IS ENGLAND 86 the television eight part series. Its excellent.   smile

The three Movies i have chosen, are all little British gems. Dead Man's Shoes and This is England are both directed by Shane Meadows. Dog soldiers was directed by Neil Marshall

Dead Man's Shoes (2004)

The story revolves around the character of Richard (Paddy Considine), a paratrooper returning to his small home town of Matlock in the Peak District. Richard has returned home from the army to exact revenge on the tormentors of his mentally disabled younger brother Anthony (Toby Kebbell)

This Is England (2006)

This is England is a look back at the early eighties of British working-class life through the eyes of young Shaun (Thomas Turgoose) and his new gang, and dealing with the bitterness of outside influences such as racism and xenophobia, of mass unemployment and the fall out of the Falkland's War during Thatcher's Britain.

Dog Soldiers (2002)

A squad of British soldiers on training in the lonesome Scottish wilderness find a wounded Special Forces captain and the carnaged remains of his team. As they encounter zoologist Megan (Emma Cleasby) it turns out that werewolves are active in the region. They have to prepare for some action as the there will be a full moon tonight...

Vampire$ was ok, but i just didnt buy James Woods character as a hard man vampire killer. It seemed as tho a gust of wind would have blown him over. I thought the story and the Vampire make up was good.

But i think they could of choose someone better to have played the lead. And i wasnt a fan of the stupid jokes he came out with either. James Woods just couldn't pull it off in my opinion. But it wasnt a bad film.. not when you put it up to the likes of Vampire in Brooklyn or a return to Salems lot.

And why im moaning.. i hated the blood transfusion rubbish in Near Dark. That part of the film sucked monkey balls.

I forgot to mention Let the right one in (Original) I loved that flick.

Da...Dum! Da...Dum! i think i may have to watch old Bruce do his thang! at the weekend ;0)

But it's not like Quint lives on Amity. He comes after seeing the reports of the attacks.

Also, it's worth noting that Benchley's novel was inspired by actual shark attacks on the Jersey shore in 1916. The details are changed, but the basic ideas are all there: several unprovoked shark attacks, authorities playing them down to protect tourism, children being attacked in shallow waters, and the subsequent shark hunting frenzy.

However, there is no mention of the mayor having little anchors all over his suit.

I always thought Crazy Quint lived on the Island. I thought his house was the place there in at the end of the film. That was on Amity Island wasnt it..?

I watched a cool Jaws event video on You tube last week, where thousands of Jaws fans, get together to celebrate it on Martha's vineyard, and take a coach trip and see all of the sites were it was filmed.

As you can see by my name and picture, im a big vampire movie fan.

So my question is :

Is there any cool vampire flicks being made or in the pipe line that anyone knows of..?

I know Dark Shadows is being made and also a Fright Night 2 is in the pipeline, but is there anymore..?

I recently watched Fright Night 2011 and Priest and a hand full of straight to dvd "how did they get made" vampire films, but i wasn't impressed at all, with any of them.

The last decent Vamp flick i watched was 30 Days of Night. I thought that was awesome. Shame about the shockingly awful sequel. Id rather suck broken glass and razor blades through a straw, than ever watch that crud again.

My top 10 best Vampire films

The Lost Boys
Fright Night
Near Dark
30 days of Night
Interview with the Vampire
Vamp
Nosferatu (1922)
Salem's Lot
Dusk till Dawn
The Monster Squad (If that counts)

I'll have to give the Subspecies films a mention, because i love all of those.

Doctor Submarine please don't be jealous of the film PAWS! because it has a bigger budget than yours. We both know it will become a 2012 summertime blockbuster. And it will change how we feel about taking our dogs for a walk on a beach forever.

You yell Paws!, and we got a panic on our hands on the twenty sixth of September.

PAWS 2012

Tagline: His bark isn't as worse as his bite!

It's a hot summer on Calamity Island, a small community whose main business is its pet shops & beaches. When new Sheriff Barton Roadie discovers the remains of a dog attack victim, his first inclination is to close the beaches to all dog walkers. This doesn't sit well with new Mayor Barry Prawn and several of the local pet shop businessmen. Roadie backs down to his regret as that weekend a young boy is killed by the predator. The dead boy's mother puts out a bounty on the dog and calamity is soon swamped with amateur dog wardens hoping to cash in on the reward. A local dog walker with much experience walking dogs, Splint, offers to hunt down the creature for a hefty fee. Soon Splint, Roadie and Matt pooper scooper from the veterinary Institute are on the beach hunting the Great white dog. As Roadie succinctly surmises after their first encounter with the creature, they're going to need a bigger stick.

Maybe to intense for younger viewers.

Director : George "ive killed Star Wars" Lucas
Release date: June 20, 2012
Running time:  4hr 22mins
Country:    United States
Language: English
Budget: 700 million

First off, I love this flick. When i first watched it years ago, i always thought the shark had come to the island for one reason... to kill crazy Quint. And it was killing all those people to get his attention.

Maybe Mr Jaws did? who knows..

But one thing i never understood tho.. Quint was a shark fisherman. So why was he on Amity island, where there were no sharks? that would be like opening a landscape gardening company at the north pole. Makes no sense!

Apart from that.. ITS JAWSOME!

Your commentary rocked.

After all of these years, this is the film i still cannot decide if i like it or not. Im a massive fan of the original. I love it from start to finish, the story and the characters and the awesome score.. truly JAWSOME! but Jaws 2 blows my mind. Ive watched it loads of times.. and i just cannot decide. I like how the Brody character returns and some others from the original, and hows its set on Amity island, but the teenagers in it bug me. First off.. who cares if they die or not.. they were weak characters from the get go.. the girl who screams alot, just throw her over the side to shut her up. The sex pest who has the death grip on the boat with the massive perm, im glad he got gobbled up. Keith Gordons character needs to just jump out of the boat and go drive Christine... and when they finally get attacked by Brucey baby, they dont seem that bothered. It was like "dont worry this happens all the time" kind of vibe filled the air. In the original you cared about the characters and if they were going to survive or bite it. But in this one, who cares. I heard in the first draft of the script the story was about Amity island and how people on the island were struggling to survive, businesses closed because of no tourist trade, because of the sharks impact on the island in the original, and it focused on the main characters more.. Chief Brody struggling with his demons etc.. In my opinion i think that would of been a better film. And theres a part in the movie i just do not understand.. the part where Helen Brody gets the phone call from Matt pooper scooper from the original.. she puts on a puzzled, confused face and says it was Matt Hooper he wont be in radio contact till next whenever.. as if she doesnt no who Matt Hooper is.. after the first movie and everything Brody and Matt pooper scooper went through together, they'd be like brothers wouldnt you think.. spending Christmas together, getting a identical tattoo, they'd be tight. So by her looking puzzled to who it is on the phone looks mental and makes no sense. I did like the helicopter scene and how everyone thinks Chief Brody is crazy because he thinks another shark has come to cause more anarchy in Amity. The town hall "im not going through that hell again" scene rocks.. and they did a superb job on the score in my opinion. But i just cannot seem to make up my mind on this one... Ill have to buy a bottle of Jack Daniels and watch it again during this week and try and make up my mind.

Oh yeah! why im ranting why has Brody's deputy changed his name by dipole from Len to Jeff in Jaws 2 ? is he on the run from the CSA or Tax man..? i demand answers!

Thats right! most remakes make me feel like drinking industrial strength paint stripper and shots of nail varnish remover as good measure..  take The 2007 hitcher with Sean Bean in.. dont get me wrong i like some of Sean Beans films like Essex Boys. He rocked in that.. but come on, you've never been beating Rutger Hauer's  murderous hitch-hiker in the classic 86 hitcher flick. The film didnt need remaking. It looks as good today as it did back in 86.

And here is another.. 2010 Karate Kid. I watched that, and thought to myself "right id rather drink shampoo for a week, than ever watch that again. Cobra Kai's never die baby! viva la 1984 style! it still holds up today, so why bother making it again.. we love Bananarama blasting out in the background "its a cruel, cruel summer!" let me tell you, it has been a cruel summer since i watched the remake. Ill take the crain kick and Mr Wax on... wax off. Wax on... wax off Okinawa bad boy and crazy John Kreese any day of the week over the 2010 garbage.

Banzai!

If you had the chance to erase a film from existence, what film would it be...?

Ive got to go with Lost Boys the tribe or Lost Boys the trash as i like to call it. When i first watched it, i was sick in my hand. But a close second goes to Jaws the revenge. I didnt no weather to laugh or cry watching that.. but you have to remember that one was "Personal" no it wasnt, it was mental!
