Re: Suggest a Commentary 2.0: The Suggestioning
To be fair, that doesn't mean they have to do a commentary for any other Asylum film.

Just watched Side Effects. It's really, really good. Especially since you guys have done a Soderbergh and a Hitchcock recently. It feels like Soderbergh is channeling Hitchcock's ghost, and the results are awesome. If you like Contagion, you're gonna like this one. And it's streaming on Netflix!
Pumpkinhead! It's on Netflix now!
I mentioned this in the chat a bit ago, since I didn't know if October scary movie would be a thing or not this year, but the Ring was one I suggested. Not sure if anyone else is game, but it is a weirdly twisted movie that doesn't always work, so good for analysis.
I'd like to see one for Christine for the scary thread if you don't have your choices locked in.

I know Jimmy but It would be neat for them to do a commentary on that Terd of a film Sharknado

Is it stupid, lazy, tension-destroying-forever shitty writing? Also yes.
Sure. I'm not gonna argue that Into Darkness is perfect. But if you're ranking all 12 Star Trek movies honestly, there's no way if comes close to the bottom. It seems like the internet has made this movie its whipping boy this summer and I don't get it.
I also don't get why everyone suddenly has a deep hatred for Man Of Steel, which has some major pacing/structure problems but is otherwise a perfectly good superhero movie. Don't even get me started on the whole "SUPERMAN DOESN'T KILL WAHHH" bullshit. So Superman in the comics doesn't kill? Well, this isn't a fucking comic. Deal with it. Also, I guess people suddenly care about the collateral damage from epic superhero battles? I don't get it.
And what's the deal with airline food?
actually Superman Killed Zod in the comics and he was so upset by it that he left for a while to come to terms with what he has done and since then he hasn't killed.

I doubt there would be anything them to say about it for 90 minutes except groans of disgust.
It's been a while since you guys did a really bad movie. I miss hearing you guys tearing into a real dog of a movie.
in the october films category, I spotted Sweeny Todd. I say do that this October! I know Teague loves to do musically leaning movies, and Sweeny Todd's a good one.
Pumpkinhead!
Oh hell yeah, I'd totally be down for some Pumpkinhead.

Actually, I think it's time for another commentary for Dark City
Sin City - XXL edition.
There are two movies I'm thinking of that could make for really interesting commentaries:
Lost in Space - the 1998 film, I'd love to hear Trey's thoughts on another sci-fi series made into a movie a la the WAYDM of Wild Wild West, and I remember the movie itself having enough potential but also enough wasting of that potential to spark a truly interesting discussion. Plus, William Hurt and Gary Oldman!
From Hell - the Hughes Brothers' workable adaptation of Alan Moore's fantastic graphic novel about Jack the Ripper hits most of the plot points of the GN but misses out on everything that made it great instead of just good. Again, a lot of potential, and a lot of wasted potential, but I like it as a movie a lot more than I do Lost in Space. Eddie might be interesting to hear on this one, as well as ways the more metaphysical and existential aspects of the comic might have been integrated into a film adaptation. Plus, it's Jack the Ripper so it totally fits in with Scary Movie Month.
The official Lost In Space commentary on the DVD is well worth listening to, as the writer and director tell you exactly what went wrong, and the massive changes to the ending.
The problem with the From Hell movie, and the reason I never watched it, is it went against the whole point of the comic. The original was "OK, here's every known fact, with a bit of fiction to fill in the gaps to make it an actual story." So what does the movie do? Combine two characters into one and give him real psychic powers. Really? Way to miss the point.
(the end notes in the book are incredible. Moore tells you, panel by panel, what's fact, what's probable fact, what's an educated guess, what's pure fiction, and what he put in to piss off his Royalist artist)
Can i suggest a Zero Dark Thirty Commentary?
I like the idea of doing a double bill of the Korean oldboy and the American one when it comes out.
No. Don't even acknowledge it exists. It's like new Star Wars - as far as we're concerned they never happened.
How about the guard? or anything with Brendon Gleeson
Have you ever thought about doing a full commentary on a documentary? Might be quite interesting

We debated this, which is what led to one of our sub podcasts hosted by me, Documentality. We've done 3 episodes so far, give one a listen.
Yeah I've listened to them all. Hell I've listened to every podcast you guys have done! I just thought if might be interesting if there was a documentary that you could do a full commentary on. To be honest it would be most interesting if it was one you had a lot of problems with. Be it with the structure or the content or both.
A commentary on a documentary about faking the moon landings could be the funniest commentary in the world!
