My problem is that it looks like he's playing Nero.

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness

I don't WANT Khan, I hope we don't get Khan, but I'm not ready to rule him out just yet. I don't think it'd be Benedict Cumberbatch, but we haven't seen so much as a single still photo of Peter Weller in this movie yet. And those cryo-sleep pod-lookin' things in the trailer have me nervous. Of course, they could be in there because they intentionally lead you to think that way. Dammit, JJ.

I think it's been clear for a long time, ever since Cumberbatch was cast, that he's not playing Khan. To my mind, the speculation and rumours have been going back and forth over whether he's playing the role of Gary Mitchell (I say yes).

The problem here has been that they simultaneously want to go off and do their own thing but also want to borrow great elements from Star Trek lore, elements that most fans are aware of. So you say Khan and everyone knows, essentially, what's going to happen in the story, and you say Gary Mitchell, and everyone knows what's going to happen. When you re-tell old stories, much of the surprise is taken away, and I don't think the question 'how would this alternate reality Kirk take care of Khan?' is interesting enough for a remake.

I wish that it was as clear to many other fans as you because there is still talk on various fan boards that Cumberbatch is Khan. Its rather amusing as people are wondering how Abrams will pull off Khan  roll

Quick update. The second volume of the prequel comic has been released providing more questions than answers though it is an interesting take on Trek lore.

New photo of Zoe Saldana featuring an apparent new take on the uniform-not sure what to think...

I saw the name Damon Lindelof in the writers section. Should I be worried?

This last decade shall be easily recognizable in future years for all the skin-tight Kevlar weave/mesh outfits everyone is wearing in everything. Beats spandex and tinfoil I suppose.

not long to go now...

He co-wrote the 2009 film too so I guess it depends on how much you liked that one.

I think we'll be fine as long there was someone in the room that could say 'no Damon, that's retarded. Make it better'.

Figured that out after the last trailer :) Thanks

I am still excited but personally think that the general reaction will depend largely upon the acceptance of Kirk and crew in this new time, being different because of it and facing off against different villains. I had a thought about Trek 09 and people's hatred against that movie and I think it has to do with Nero and Kirk and Spock. If
there is acceptance of their motivations and behaviors in the film, then my experience has been that they enjoy the movie. If not, then there is only frustration and anger at the movie.

If Harrison, Kirk and Spock lack any chemistry at all during the movie, it will get the same ill feelings from fans like Trek 09.

New trailer, with more about Harrison's background and attack on Starfleet.
I believe Trey's theory still holds true that there is something about buildings falling that is imbedded in the current psyche of American filmmakers that has some significance to us.

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness

Something about that shot of the Enterprise crashing into the buildings really hit me. I think it's how it shows the scale of the ship. We almost always see it in space, surrounded by other ships, so it's hard to get a feel for just how BIG it is.

Anyway, this looks cool.
