Re: Suggest an Intermission!

They spoke a bit about the 'curse' during the Dark Knight commentary (I think). They talked about Ledger dying while working with the ex-Parrot....I mean, Python. They could probably talk about the man and his works for a full show, though.

I'm surprised they haven't done a comm for a Gilliam film, actually. smile

I salute you.

...and, I've heard the episode(Dark Knight) where they mention Ledger and the Gilliam "curse" ....
but, I think we could do with an entire episode on Gilliam ! big_smile

Re: Suggest an Intermission!

How about an episode where you guys discuss film makers who continuously make really bad/poor performing films, but, continue to get work ! Or, the actors/actresses who are continuously in poor performing films, but, still show up in  movies.
Examples: Clive Owen( I really like), Mila Jovavich, John Cusack(I realll like).

How 'bout ret-conning the Oscars?  For example, over time does Annie Hall still beat out Star Wars.

Yeah, I think it does.

But the only thing the Oscars are good for is showcasing the tastes of the predominately old, white, male membership of the Academy in a given year. It's not really a talk about movies, but politics.

That said, it is a really cool idea for an episode.

With Teague (and Ryan) hitting the bricks with high hopes and new reels, what about a discussion about dealing with freelancing? Sorting your taxes, what's important for your reel, maybe even an intermission screencast where someone depicts the culling and building process for their work?

There's a whole episode of Geekza dedicated to that.

That's a bit like I've complained of a headache, so you've put on a witchdoctor outfit, sacrificed a calf to the ancestors, and recommended trepanation.

Re: Suggest an Intermission!

I honestly couldn't tell. Dave has been here since 2009 so I assumed he has listened to more than one commentary. And since Geekza has been mentioned more than once on the show, in the about section and the whole archive is hosted on the DIF site it isn't a stretch to think that he should've at least heard about it.

Next time I'll just drop the link wink

That would have worked if you hadn't stopped me.

Re: Suggest an Intermission!

What about like weird science anomalies that have been exaggerated into myths? Like how how the deep sea "Bloop" sound is apparently a giant Lovecraft monster. Or the uvb-76 radio signal (which is probably just some Russian outpost) has some sinister purpose like monitoring mutants in Chernobyl.

Things based in science that have been blown out of proportion by the ancient aliens crowd on what now passes for the history channel.

With science!

Re: Suggest an Intermission!

I recently witnessed NBC's Revolution pilot on Hulu. Physics went crazy and all the batteries and lighters in the whole world stopped working (and all the electricity). As DIF's (Trey specificly) comments on Terra Nova are so entertaining and enjoyable, has this show sparked any great commentary (good or bad)?

I've been afraid to even watch Revolution.

Re: Suggest an Intermission!

I made it through the first 20 minutes of the Revolution pilot and that was it for me.   Hell, even Terra Nova got me to watch both of its pilots all the way through.

Apparently the pitch for Revolution went something like:

"Okay... Terra Nova, right?  A huge bomb.  Why?   Stock characters doing ridiculous things, failure to mine anything particularly interesting from a potentially interesting premise, and a willful disregard of science even though the show is purportedly a science fiction show.

So what makes Revolution different?   This time, no dinosaurs!"

Re: Suggest an Intermission!

A key feature or term I've noticed when listening to intermissions (particularly the blockbuster and pixar ones) is the reference to the storytelling aspect of films and it would be great if you guys could expand on that.

Something like 'what makes a good story? What components does one need?' and maybe you can divert off onto the idea of adaptations and how having source material to go on to effect the film in general.

That would be awesome to listen to......hope you guys take it into consideration!

Re: Suggest an Intermission!

We did something kind of like that with The Heroine's Journey episode, but yeah, maybe we could do one for storytelling in general. Cool idea.

Also, How We Write Movies has some of that.
