Topic: Down in Front 3.0 is LIVE.

Ladies and gentlemen, the culminated effort of the panelists, half the fucking forum, myself and especially Holden Hill is now on display for the world to see.

Down in Front 3 is live. Report bugs. (We know the blog is ugly, that'll get some sex in the coming days. Also gonna add a bunch of people to the about section.)

Big, big, big 'ol honking massive shout-out to iJim for the HALP video. It's all him, and you guys on the Halp team, all of whom are in the special thanks.

We did it, everybody.

It's sooo damn pretty! And that video...Oh man! I'm interested to know what equipment & software iJim used.

So, all the time stamping we did over the summer, that will be put to use eventually, yes? Just checking. smile

BTW, I'm a big fan of how the box art for the episode is used as a blurred, sort of bokeh backdrop!

Re: Down in Front 3.0 is LIVE.

John, this is the first thing we did with that...fucking wealth...of information. We might do another thing like this with different quotes, or the original synced-footage idea, or something else. And by the way, anyone is welcome to do a thing like iJim did, if you get antsy waiting for the next one.

Thanks for all the props, folks. This is one of those threads where pimps should be obligatory.

That was really nicely put together iJim. How'd you get the ghostbusters shot?

Re: Down in Front 3.0 is LIVE.

Holden, I love the new design.  A lot.  It fills the browser space beautifully, and I second John's remarks on the bokeh.  And everything is more intuitive.

And thanks, guys.  Obviously if it wasn't for your quotes, I wouldn't have done it.  Just WAY too much stuff to shift through.  Hell, even WITH the quotes is was almost too much to shift through.

I used an HVX200 w/Redrock and an assortment of prime nikon lenses for most of the montage.  Everything else, the video-y looking stuff, is an HPX.   But I've decided I need a RED.  So now I have to choose one.

I also used a crane on a dolly for several shots, including the Stay Puft shot.  I also had a skate dolly, most notably for the Transformers shot.  Also a couple lowell light kits and just, you know, led flashlights.  It was all cut on FCP.

And Teague is, among his many other skills, a great editor.  He suggested a cool 60-70 seconds worth of cuts (which I resisted initially) that improved this thing by 400%.

That's fantastic. The video just shouts awesome from the rooftops.

Warning: I'm probably rewriting this post as you read it.

Re: Down in Front 3.0 is LIVE.

Thanks everyone. God. It's been so much work for such a long time, I can tell you between Holden, myself, and Jim, this is just...great to hear.

It's not a huge deal or anything, it's just a website, but we really put a lot of effort into making everything just as good as we could possibly do it, and to get feedback like this is all we were hoping for the whole time.

If you haven't, check out the About page, too. It's pretty sexy now.

Re: Down in Front 3.0 is LIVE.

I was surprised when I checked DiF today, but it looks great. Will report any bugs, but currently, looks great, easy to navigate and love the new streaming system.

Good job gentlemen!

God loves you!

Lookin' good. The only downside is the gif-quality of the icons. Kinda bums me out sad

Re: Down in Front 3.0 is LIVE.

One addition on the about pages might be a "Show" tag in the cast listing, so that you can get back to the general "about the show" without reloading the overall about page.

Re: Down in Front 3.0 is LIVE.

That's a good point, and on that note: since Intermission and DiF share the same About page, the About Page should probably start with a brief description of both.  i.e. DiF: you sync your copy of a movie etc etc.  Intermission, same crew but 30 min long and not movie-specific.

Unless Intermission will someday get its own About link, the same way (I'm guessing?) the iTunes and Rss links will toggle appropriately once Intermission is fully out of beta.

Re: Down in Front 3.0 is LIVE.

Just curious, what makes the rating system work? Number of downloads?

Re: Down in Front 3.0 is LIVE.

That's basically a strategy to decide what episodes people hear, if what they're after is "highly rated" episodes. Assuming anyone comes to the site and says "alright, I'll give them a chance, which one is the best?" Not so much a means of tracking an episode's popularity, more a way of putting a best foot forward to someone who doesn't know where to start. I think of it as a greatest hits collection at the top of the stack.

To answer your question, I chose which ones got "good introduction" treatment, and which ones were deep cuts.  My personal criteria for liking an episode is how many cylinders I feel the episode fires on, the more the better, but it's all subjective.

At some point, probably soon, I'll actually go in an specifically pick which one goes on the very top, and second, and third, etc., by giving them even higher numbers. Right now all of the 5s are on top in some non-rating-based order.

I'd actually be open, if there were a convenient way for everyone to arbitrate between 131 episodes, to getting everyone's opinion to drive which ones are in the top ten or whatever. Might be easiest with the preferential ballot style voting we do on LCC.

Anyway, that's the ratings system.

Re: Down in Front 3.0 is LIVE.

To quote the famous line from Starship Troopers, "BUUUUGS!!!"

So, I was but only a few minutes into the Revenge of the Sith episode (almost to the point where I can say I've listened to every episode), when the sound dropped out, but the timer kept going. I tried to select back to a minute or so before, and the stream turned all orange-y on me.

I refreshed the page, and got what I believe to be the main page, except there was no episode on display (it would be The Shining at this point), just a big black space, above iJim's video. Also, I tried to scroll down in the sidebar menu to get back to the ep I was listening to.

It didn't work. The scroll bar itself moved, but the actual list of eps did not. It seems to be working now, but I'll go ahead and email a screen cap so you can see what I was talking about.
