Topic: The Princess Bride

Teague here.

It's fair to say that this is one of those "lovey dovey" Down in Front episodes, and who's to blame you? We're all comfortable with this movie like we're comfortable with your mother, and I personally am so comfortable with this movie that I took it upon myself to get hammered and mix myself improperly. Sorry folks, neither of those things will happen again.

As Trey is quick to point out, this episode reveals our allegiance to the "fifth" Down in Fronter, William Goldman, who's myriad musings on the craft of storytelling brought all of us independently to where we are now (on a podcast, thanks, Goldman), and with good reason. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of any of his books - I prefer Which Lie Did I Tell?, but take your pick - and learn something from the source for once, instead of coming to this god damned website and hearing us screw up what we learned from him.

Or just watch the movie. Or read the book. Failing these things, listen to our commentary for The Princess Bride.

Good work and fun, altho certainly a love-fest that is a bit light on analysis of why the film works until very close to the end. No one should fault you, Teague, for loving this movie.

Re: Fifth-DIFer William Goldman. Does this mean we can expect Down in Front to tackle "Magic" and "Memoirs of an Invisible Man"?

Actually, if we were really going to tackle Goldman's body of work, I'd nominate The Ghost and the Darkness and Year of The Comet, because his insider tales of making both are fascinating and should be shared.   

Assuming he isn't willing to come over and tell the stories himself, that is...

I read that article and in Billy Crystal's interview he said that there should be a Facebook movement for a Max and Valerie movie. Best part, as he says it, they will not need as much make up for their parts.

This story includes some rather important details that FamilyVideo missed...

Due to a recent reference to it, I listened to this episode again, and I have to say; Slightly drunk Teague is the best brand of Teague.

He's at the 'Mitchell and Webb' level of drunkenness where you think you can do anything, but are still sober enough to actually do it.
