What?

Did I misunderstand or are there actually people who don't find Alicia Witt attractive?

What a sad life some people must live...

Re: The old "next week" thread.

I think we covered this when we were talking about Karen Gillan and Billie Piper. If I remember correctly, the conclusion we all came to was that some people are just wrong.

I LOVED SURROGATES.

I mean, I loved its potential as a DIF movie.

It's like, almost a good movie.

Re: The old "next week" thread.

I was entertained by it. It wasn't great, but it wasn't as bad as many other movies out there. Like "Max Payne". I'll admit that it may have been a decent movie, if you have no frame of reference, but they fucked up the actual story.

Surrogates? Well, it had to happen big_smile

Re: The old "next week" thread.

Hmm, i'm gonna have to watch Surrogates. Does it have Fichtner or space-dementia?

Good news: These nice people have a list that DiF should pick from.

Bad news: This belongs in off-topic but Satoshi Kon died a couple of days ago at 46. To me he was batting 1.000 as far as animé goes: the best part of Memories, Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers and Paprika which has very cool opening credits.

Yeah, and I seriously just watch Paprika for the first time on Sunday, too.

Re: The old "next week" thread.

The TV series Paranoia Agent was the only thing of his that I can say I really enjoyed, and it was their commentary for the final episodes that taught me to assume most "meaning" in films isn't to be taken seriously. They admit having no ending when they started animating the first episodes, and intentionally cut any dialog that would tell the viewer what in fact was going on smile

Re: The old "next week" thread.

I actually saw Surrogates in the theater, but only because that movie 9, which my friends all wanted to see, wasn't showing. I remember thinking at the time that it was passable schlock, but looking back on it now, it was hilarious.

So, next week's film (at the time of writing) is an 80s movie? Holy shit! The first one since Aliens big_smile

Empire Strikes back. Original Version or Lucas Masturbatory manipulated one? I have the original on laserdisc. Gotta get the revamp on Netflix....

Alright! It's really fun to pause the DIF commentary so I can flip the disc over. Gotta love Laserdisc.

Re: The old "next week" thread.

When you guys do T4, I'd love to hear you discuss the script changes that went into effect once Christian Bale said he'd do it if he played John Conner.  I was really surprised after reading the script before Bale got his hands in things.  I'm sure Dorkman will know what I'm referring to.

I'm pretty sure the others will too, but i know Dorkman likes reading scripts.

Re: The old "next week" thread.

I actually didn't read any of the T4 scripts. I know what Bale's demands were (that it be more character drama than VFX spectacle -- something you could "perform on a stage") but I don't know what it looked like before that.

I do talk about what I think they SHOULD have done -- for all I know, they were going to until he came aboard.

Do you have a link to where I can read the pre-Bale T4?

Re: The old "next week" thread.

yeah sure.  Here's a link to the version I read.  Don't know if Bale was on board for sure during this revision, but it's definitely different from what's in the finished film.

http://screenplayexplorer.com/wp-conten … vation.pdf

What I remember about his "demands" was that he wanted to be John Conner and he wanted Conner to have more of a role in the film.  So they had to write More of John into the script than what was already there.  Of course they supposedly changed the ending after it leaked on the net.

Re: The old "next week" thread.

What are the legal ramifications of sharing screenplay drafts like this? I'm not asking 'cause I want Switch's post deleted or anything stupid like that; I was actually thinking of popping over to off-topic and starting a "post your favorite scripts" thread. I know at least some of us what frequent this forum like to read scripts, and at least some passing-around has been done in the past, but if it'd cause looks of disapproval, then I won't.

Uh. I default to Dorkman's take, I think he'd know the most about it.

Re: The old "next week" thread.

There really aren't any legal ramifications. A lot of produced screenplays are made freely available one way or another -- as long as it's after the movie's come out, the studios don't care. One of the few benefits of the studios having no real respect for the value of a screenplay.

Spec screenplays get passed around all over town anyway -- they WANT attention, after all -- so there's no problem getting ahold of those.

It's only when a movie is currently in development that they might want to keep it under wraps and prevent leaks, lest an uproar (like the one that happened over the leaked T4 draft) force their hand and require altering the film in some way.

The easy way to deal with sharing such leaks is to simply link to someone who is hosting it. Then if the studio comes down on the leak, you wind up with a dead link rather than a C&D. And then you just use email.

But again, unless it's a big tentpole film, the studios don't usually care enough to even worry about whether or not the script's been leaked, as the percentage of a non-tentpole audience that would bother to read the script is insignificant and it's not worth their time to even check if the bell's been rung, let alone try to unring it.

Share away.

Re: The old "next week" thread.

this is a cool idea.  I've been trying to find the shooting script for t4, but so far no dice.  If anyone can find it, please post a link here, or rather, in Harrell's thread.  There are a couple of other movies that I've tried to find but haven't found anything for, like Predators and the American.  Just saw the American last weekend BTW.  good flick.
