So a common criticism I hear of movies from my friends is that they saw the ending coming from a mile away.  People seem to LOVE to say this when a movie has a twisty or unexpected ending. Are there any movies where knowing the ending actively ruined your viewing experience/perception of the movie?

The only time I came close was when someone told me of Donnie Darko:

  Show
"Oh yeah, Donnie dies"

and I spent the movie being rather frustrated that they'd felt the need to spoil. But I still enjoyed watching the film itself.

That is an interesting question. If the spoiler is similar to the example you gave and

a character dies

it depends on how far they go with it. It can be annoying, sure, but nowhere near annoying as if they say

  Show
how the character dies but I'd still be expecting it.Then again, is that much different from watching an adaptation of a book where you know a character death is imminent?

My spoiler tags are of no film in particular but do relate to Allison's spoiler, so I tagged it anyway. I guess you're good if you've seen Donnie Drko big_smile

Hey, some movies even spoil themselves. Moulin Rouge "The woman that I love is dead." is said literally within the first 3 minutes.
