Topic: How do you listen to DIF?

Pretty self explanatory. I initially had to watch the movie with the commentary (alcohol included) to the get full feel of the show haha, but after 'Source Code' which basically meant I couldn't watch it congruent with the film, I started listening to it just on my journey into school on the tube (that's subway for you yanks/former colonies) along with the intermissions and etc. Eventually, I just said 'fuck it' and ditched the movies mostly and have been listening to the commentaries on their own with some exceptions (Dark Knight, LOTR)

Obviously with the new format of the show, this makes it more possible and in my opinion, more accessible generally.

So yeah.......how do you enjoy the show?

I've only listened to our stuff once or twice with a movie. Both times, I was delighted by how much they work as commentaries.

Like it was a surprise to me.  hmm

Generally I just listen at work, movie-free, when I'm listenin.'

Seriously, though, I listen along with the film if possible if not, it's just another podcast. With the new format, I listen normally, probably when I'm doing housework or traveling. If I listen to the comm along with the film, I'll probably listen to it again at a later point anyway, again, with the housework or with the traveling.

Generally in the car on the way to and from work. It's a great way to pass a 45 minute commute in each direction.

Along with the movie nearly always, for all commentators I listen to.

I also listen to a ton of non-commentary podcast content, but that I listen to at +30%. Apparently, I have the patience for movie commentators at normal speed but not for Ira Flatow.

Suck it, Flatow.

During the live shows I usually have the movie on in the background, but otherwise I listen at work, in bed, out walking, wherever really.

I gave up watching the movies pretty quick because of PAL / NSTC sync issues.

Yeah, that's a problem. I only listen along with the film if a) I have the region 1 DVD or 2) I have the Blu-Ray.

Usually I listen to just the commentary. Mainly because I can usually remember the movies pretty well, and I don't need to watch along to understand what they are talking about. However there are certain commentaries where they talk about noticing something in a certain scene where it would help to listen while watching the movie (for example the fight club commentary where you can spot tyler at the beginning of the movie). In one rare case (Pulp Fiction), I started watching along with the commentary but had to turn off the commentary because I was just too into the movie.

^^^ That's my general problem with movie commentaries. If I  try watching it with the movie I end up turning the commentary off 10 minutes in cause I just want to watch the movie.

I did convert some of the episodes way back when in audacity by converting the speed and pitch shift but there were still sync issues and it was agreed that each episode required a different speed change to sync which rather made the whole thing impossible

which I think is why Holden stopped putting PAL copies on the site

When I watched the movie with the commentary, I just paused every so often when it got a little too out of sync. Now though, I listen to it when I go to sleep.

My computer is in one room and the tv in another, so I follow the weekly movie commentaries by running a speaker extension cable from the computer, thru the wall and into a set of speakers, so I can watch the movie on the tv and listen to the commentary. This kinda annexed(?) joining in the live chat so (during my first few ones) I didn't log on into it. Worked fun apart from a constant boinging sound every so often. Found out later that this was the chat alert thing to signify a new entry. Couldn't mute it without logging into chat, so started logging in, muting it and watching movie. Soon realised that having someone logged into the chat but not saying anything might come across as a little strange (akin to going to a party but sitting in the corner not talking to no-one), especially when I'd fall asleep during the show, wake up 3 hours later and find people still chatting away. Then found out with Firefox you can simply deny the chat box from loading and thus stop the boinging. Success(ish) though I do wish I'd moved the computer into the other room for the LOTR thing.

I listen to DIF while at work, animating.

This is has become a problem for me.  Because it's a habit, now. If I animate without listening to DIF it feels like I'm not having the whole experience of working properly. It's weird. I work better if I listen to DIF (or some other equally geeky podcast which are rare and few) and I'm more productive too. Haha!

Anyone else feel the same?

I used to only listen to it with the movie going, but when the intermission started I downloaded the first ten or so to listen to in the car. Then I had all this extra space so I dumped a bunch of commentaries on there as well, cause why not? Then I listened to the Roger Rabbit commentary in the car and found it extremely enjoyable, so now DiF is pretty much all I listen to in the car, unless I really need to rock the fuck out after a stressful day at work or whatever.

The unfortunate thing is that I have nowhere to go that takes me 90 or more minutes to drive. A lot of the time I'll get to where I'm going and sit in the car listening "just for a minute longer" and accidentally burn ten minutes of gas idling in the grocery store parking lot.

You guys owe me about 50 bucks worth of gas now.
