This has been bothering me for a while and I need to say something.
In this episode, I make a joke about Padme "asking for it" (i.e to get raped) with the way she dresses in the fireside scene. There's certainly a joke of some kind to be made about the mixed signals going on in that scene -- mainly in Lucas' handling of it -- but in the years since this recording I've grown to realize that so wasn't it.
I've never been called out on this, publicly or privately, so I'm calling myself out. I can't change the recording but I want to go on record here and say -- to anyone who has listened to this or may do so in the future, and is hurt or upset by a misguided attempt at humor of which I've come to be ashamed -- I'm sorry. I hope to do better.

The Robot Chicken version of that scene has Padme pole dancing in front of Anakin, all the while saying he couldn't touch her. This is closer to your (I think) comment in the dinner scene, where you said she was wearing a Fuck Me dress. That's not a rape comment, more saying she was dressing for seduction. There IS a difference.

Also, I think the joke is more that Lucas is not exactly a romantic, despite the very romantic/fantasy/adventure setting of Star Wars.
For curiosity sake, what should Padme and Anakin's relationship have looked like? Lancelot and Guinevere? Han and Leia? Do we even care anymore?
Lancelot and Guinevere would have been an interesting angle on it. As such, both parties are suppressing their love and affection, rather than the senator 'just because'. I think that would have made Anakin's part of it more interesting certainly, since he's wrestling with his upbringing and the Jedi way more, rather than finding loopholes and relishing the opportunity to be a rebel (an aspect of his personality I find to be at odds with the political views he later espouses). If anything, I would have reversed their positions in the movie, and had her being much more interested in him. Which incidentally, I've seen in various iterations of the Lancelot and Guinevere story (Excalibur and Knights of the Round Table).
Generally though, Anakin needs to show he has qualities beyond looking like a sweet sixteen idol cover, and Padme needs to be shown to develop her feelings because of these qualities.
I love how this thread has garnered a (now) total of 10 posts since 2000 and fucking 9. It's as if everyone saw what it was and just went, "...mehNO."

Poor Attack of the Clones. Not hated as much as Phantom Menace, it's just ignored. Is it better to be despised or forgotten?
Is it better to burn out or to fade awayyyy?

Funny story: I picked up the ATOC concept art for a quick read/inspiration while donating plasma.
First of all, some interesting art work and it is amazing to see how much of that art translates on to the screen.
As for the prequels, I guess I hit the acceptance stride, mostly because I have tried to study the films and explore them from a production standpoint, rather than strictly as films. I think George doesn't get why the OT was so popular, why Empire is considered the best, and felt he needed to make his movie, rather than the unfinished work he did in the OT. He always calls those movies "unfinished" and feels the need to show us (like I think Dorkman said) what he always meant to do. And we, the audience, go "Huh? That's what you meant to do?" 
I find ATOC enjoyable as a movie (better than TMP, where I literally walked away going that was interesting, but not SW). It has some of my favorite Star Wars moments that I usually skip right to while watching the DVD.
But, the Internet is done with the prequels so maybe I'm just too late for the hate
You know, it's taken a few years for me to come to terms with this, but *deep breath* Attack of the Clones is my favorite Star Wars movie. (Which is not to say it's the best SW movie -- that's Empire, but it is my favorite.) When I want to watch Star Wars this is the one I put in.
I agree that the writing is terrible. It didn't used to bother me so much as a teenager, but I with a decade's distance from my "WHOA, so THIS is Star Wars" moment in 2002, I can see how y'all were disappointed. So yeah, hate on it all you want, but this was the one that made me fall in love with the SW universe.
Fun fact: The exact moment when Trey says the movie finally gets going in the arena is the exact moment when I check out, think "well the movie is basically over" and go to the kitchen for food.
Attack of the Clones is my favorite Star Wars movie.

While I would NEVER go that far, I will say that of the prequels, Attack of the Clones is the most close to being watchable and enjoyable for me. This is especially weird, because it's also simultaneously one of the worst, certainly visually (goddamn does that early digital cinematography look like ass). The thing is, if you're able to survive the torture-fest that is the 2nd act, I think the last hour is the best continuous chunk of action-adventure from any of the prequels. Phantom Menace I find completely unwatchable, full-stop. ROTS opens strong but gets progressively more terrible, and does the thing I HATE where it will start a cool action sequence and then cut away from it 30 seconds later to some boring political shit only to cut back into it like 20 minutes later when you've already lost all the momentum. The end of AOTC stays in one location, and just builds and builds as it gets crazier and more large scale, and follows the same set of characters throughout all the action. It hews closest to the space adventure kick that I want from that kind of movie. If that section is on cable, I'll usually sit through it cause it's genuinely fun.
There was a Family Guy skit about this thread. Something to the effect of:

I think that is my part too. ATOC is good fun, for the most part, especially if you watch it the way I do: skip the romance plot 
I use to defend the romance because I kind of understood what George was going for but realizing now that it was unsuccessful (or even good) I just follow Obi-Wan.
However, I understand the pain people have due to the prequels, because it really is poorly done in terms of story (what there is of it) but it feels more like a Star Wars movie to me. Phantom Menace really didn't for me and ROTS just leaves me depressed and angry. I recall walking out of the midnight showing aching to watch Star Wars (A New Hope) just for a little light at the end of the tunnel.
With this film I can watch it, have fun, and I just leave it at that.
If there was any prequel movie that could be fan-edited into being decent, it would be this one. Just cut out every non-action scene with Anakin, follow Obi-Wan the whole movie, and you have a fun space action movie

I get the impression this was due in part to Hayden Christensen? Apologies if it's not, just that over the years I've interacted with quite a few female fans of Star Wars who seem to like the prequels almost solely because of him at first, going positively gaga over him. Seems teenage girls respond to the angst-ridden, bad boy character as well as the pretty face.
I'm not sure how you can edit around Yoda incredulously fighting Dooku and that duel's lacklustre resolution, or that Yoda starts a war to save a single Jedi and then acts like it had nothing to do with him.
