Episode 7.

On the one hand, god damn it.
On the other hand, Star Wars without Lucas's terrible screenwriting.

I'm wondering what effect this will have on fan film makers?

That's a really good question. I would think Disney would be a little more protective, but I'm sure Lucas will have some sort of say. They said he's still a consultant.

Re: #44 - Disney Buys Lucasfilm

While I'm one of those crazies that didn't hate the prequels (so feel free to ignore the rest of this post  tongue  ), I pretty much stopped following Star Wars at all after Episode 3 came out. So I thought I was out and that I didn't really care about Star Wars any more, but seeing this news made me realise that I absolutely care. This whole thing just feels surreal and kinda terrifying. Even if lots of people hated what Star Wars had become, I always felt strangely comforted by the fact that behind it all was one man doing it his own way. So my take: I don't  think I like it, but that might just be me fearing change.

It will be interesting to see what this means for the fan films though...

EDIT: Also, I DON'T want an Episode 7!

Re: #44 - Disney Buys Lucasfilm

I am freaking terrified right now. We already saw the legacy of the originals destroyed once with the prequels. Now there are SEQUELS?! (Sequels that will in all probability wipe out the entirety of the Expanded Universe after ROTJ; as an EU fan, that bothers me).

One possible plus: since Lucas will no longer directly control a lot of the business decisions that are made, maybe that means that we'll finally be able to get the ORIGINAL original films in general home video release again—cleaned up properly, this time.

Re: #44 - Disney Buys Lucasfilm

People were skeptical when Disney bought Marvel, and that turned out pretty damn well. Maybe Star Wars 7 will be a return to form.

To be fair, I can't see where there's much of a change. There's so much Star Wars now, it's no different than Star Trek. We're not talking one person's creative vision here. This is a far different beast than when Disney got ahold of the Muppets.

On the downside, yes, Trey had better finish and upload everything fast, or contact Lucas directly and get some legal cover.

As much as I balk at the thoughts of an Episode VII, I can't help but wonder what the Pixar team might be able to come up with.

Re: #44 - Disney Buys Lucasfilm

Except that the only good Marvel film to come out since the acquisition has been Avengers, and that was entirely Joss Whedon's doing (and even then it was fun but nothing groundbreaking).

If Thor, Tron Legacy, John Carter, or Pirates 4 are an indication of what to expect from new Star Wars/Indiana Jones we're in a bad spot.

Re: #44 - Disney Buys Lucasfilm

The only way I'll get excited about Episode VII, is if they have Joss write it.

Oh shit, I forgot about Indiana Jones. Where's that headed?

To be fair that is so far the only film released since the acquisition to be wholly promoted by Disney. The company had nothing to do with Thor or Captain America.

Wonder about fanfilms.

Yeah, I think the problems with previous Marvel films are on Marvel's head, not the result of Disney interference.

I don't. Game over.

Re: #44 - Disney Buys Lucasfilm

Are lightsabers considered canon if you don't name them?
Can Lightsaber Choreography entries still be made as long as they don't explicitly reference any lore/characters (like this year's winning entry)? Or is that now dead too

This brings HOWARD THE DUCK back to Marvel (Disney) for a special edition release!

We'll find out, certainly the sound effects would become something someone somewhere has a meeting about.

Remember, that non-parody Star Wars fanfilms happen at all is because George made it a corporate policy to back the fuck off. Disney is not known for being as cool.

Re: #44 - Disney Buys Lucasfilm

Do you think Joss Whedon would write/create a Star Wars film?

Re: #44 - Disney Buys Lucasfilm

I think that's brain-meltingly likely, quite honestly, especially if AVENGERS 2 does as well as the first. He just won't be at the helm of Ep.7 because he's already committed to AVENGERS 2 and they come out the same summer.

Also, AVENGERS 2 and STAR WARS 7 will now come out the same summer.
