Topic: Pick a car

Taking off from the Plane thread and also coming off the Wanted discussion:

Pick a car.

I'd go with the current Nissan GT-R:
http://www.importjap.com/wp-content/gallery/nissan-gt-r-official-pictures/nissan_gtr_official_front.jpg

Four wheel drive, straight line speed and cornering, affordable (ish), useable rear seats and trunk, usable everyday, looks pretty agressive; if I hit the lottery tomorrow, this is the car I'd buy.

You?

Since the Delorean was already taken.

Re: Pick a car

While I like the new GT-R, I'd take a Skyline R34 GT-R over it any day.

Wouldn't be my first choice for association, but I can't help but admit this car turns me right the fuck on.

Re: Pick a car

What I love about Lamos is that they actually look pretty damn good in Bright Orange or Lime Green.  Also, if you're luck, and an Italian police officer, you might get one of these as a squad car:

http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/01015/LAMBO22-460_1015098c.jpg
Lambo Gallardo LP560-4

Though, from what I'm given to understand about driving in Italy, you'd have to be a real madman to get pulled over in the first place.

I'd go with a Gallardo Superleggera:

And I even like the color.

Re: Pick a car

I thought about it, but it looks a bit like a bee stung it.

For a supercar of that ilk, I'll take a late-run McLaren F1. (Black with tint, please.)

Re: Pick a car

It feels dirty to call this beauty a "car," but this is definitely my choice.  Literally any year, though as far as the interior goes I prefer late models.  The one and only Rolls Royce Phantom.

Re: Pick a car

It's hard to beat that. But the Phantom is really a car to be driven in, not to drive, wouldn't you say? So I guess it depends on what your priorities are.

Re: Pick a car

I mean, sure, it'd be nice if it came with a chauffer who didn't mind ANYTHING going on in the back.  But then, I wouldn't exactly feel like a chump driving my own phantom, you know?

However, since that is a valid point, and since I pulled a similar move by picking Air Force One in the plane thread, here's my second choice-

http://www.exoticspotter.com/addons/albums/images/morgan-aero-8-36512-1856.jpg

The Morgan Aero 8.  Hard top convertible (you need a screwdriver and everything), two seater british roadster from heaven.  This thing has the looks of a 1925 phantom and the kind of balls you read about on Cracked.   This is what the interior looks like.

http://www.autoreview.ru/new_site/year2002/n22/morgan/800/9C7B4878.jpg

Or if you prefer black (big ol' image)- http://www.seriouswheels.com/pics-2006/ … 80x960.jpg

...I need to change my pants.

Re: Pick a car

And it's made of wood!

I will concede the point, though, that a Veyron is not the sort of car one really wants to see from the outside. In my defense, you can't see the outside if you're driving it.

Therefore I present to you the 1961 E-type Jaguar roadster. Look on it, ye mighty, and despair.

Free no-cost-to-you bonus? It is literally impossible to say the name of that car aloud without pronouncing it "Jegg-you-uh."

Oh believe me, I thought about it.  SS version if you please:
http://www.autotribute.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Bugatti-Veyron-16.4-Super-Sports.jpg

I could have equally gone with something like an Audi R8, or a Ferrari F-458, or a McLaren MP4-12C.  But there's a problem with cars like that, IMHO.

First you need a really safe place to park it, not only overnight, but anywhere you might want to go.  If I had to park my Veyron in the driveway, I don't think I could sleep at night.  Now imagine having to go get groceries; they'd better fit on the passenger seat.  For that matter, you're going to need to hire a guy to follow you around wherever you go to keep an eye on your Veyron while your in the store or at the movies or wherever.

Now granted, if by some financial miracle I could afford a Veyron, I could probably also afford a new house with a garage and a security system.  But I'd still want something else to drive around 90% of the time, which I don't have to worry about getting vandalized or stolen if I go to a movie, and I think that rather defeats the point.

I made my choice based on the idea of something I could park in my driveway (or at the mall, or a theater or whatever), that can carry four people and all their shit, has performance and handling fit for track, and makes me sexually aroused just by looking at it.  Also, with the money I saved not buying a supercar, I could also have one of each of these:
http://pictures.topspeed.com/IMG/crop/200910/2010-mitsubishi-evolution_460x0w.jpg
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X

And
461x308
2005 (don't care for the facelift they got in '06, or the current body style), Subaru Impreza WRX STi, in the proper blue with gold wheels.

I fully admit that one does not buy something like a Veyron with practicality in mind; that defeats the point.  To quote a little car show from across the pond (during an episode where the three of them drive through Europe in a Ford GT, a Pagani Zonda, and a Ferrari F-430), "You can't rationalize cars like these; they're not something you buy with your head, you buy them with your heart, because you love them, and who can explain love?"

If I could, I'd have a garage (warehouse) like Jay Leno, with all of these in there, but this thread isn't about what your dream garage would contain.  If I had to go with just one, I'd stick with my first choice.

Not my first choice, but you drove it over to my place to show off I'd still drool all over it.  If I didn't already have one in the dream garage that is.

I knew someone would pick a Morgan.  This one's for you Kyle:

I'm driving my dream car... **looks up**
2005 Subaru STi.  Black with silver wheels - HOW IT SHOULD BE...tinted black windows, modded to 359WHP.
I would also like a McLaren.

Somehow, I think everyone should know this already.

I do things.

One of these appeared in my rear-view mirror the other month:

Bugatti Veyron

When I saw it, with this polished-metal-and-cream paintjob, I thought I was being followed by a huge kitchen appliance. I kept expecting toast to pop out of somewhere.

Blue Corvette Stingray

Car of the astronauts. I worked a car show once that had an old style Corvette (C1) body but a completely modern interior. If I had more money than sense, I'd do the same with one of these and replace the engine with a Tesla motor.
