Also btw, they're remaking Karate Kid... with Jackie Chan.

Yes, Eddie and I are well aware of that one. He doesn't learn karate, he learns kung fu.
So they briefly thought of calling it "The Kung Fu Kid." But that would have defeated the purpose of remaking the film, which is to cash in on nostalgia for the original by using the title.
So they went back to "Karate Kid," which is apparently what the other kids call him, as an insult, since they consider it an inferior martial art. Which I have no doubt the producers hastily inserted into the film as a reshoot so as not to piss off their core audience, which knows the difference between the two.

I've never seen Karate Kid and I don't know kung fu from fucking, but I'd wager the core audience of a remake of Karate Kid are people who were eight when the original came out. Not, you know, martial arts enthusiasts.

People who loved Karate Kid when they were 8 would be 34 now, and if they loved Karate Kid at 8 there's a good chance they became martial arts enthusiasts in the interim.
At any rate, even if Karate Kid's fan's aren't martial arts enthusiasts in general, Jackie Chan's sure are, and the producers would know that.

As someone who was seven when Karate Kid came out, I remember watching it often, and even took a bit of Tang Soo Do. I liked what they did with the sequel, but I have zero interest in the remake.

I'm part of the core audience for the new Karate Kid AND a fan of Jackie Chan, and I couldn't tell aikido from ambo-jitsu.

Yeah I'm with Mike on this one. If you're a true fan of the original Karate Kid then you might remember Miyagi's speech to Daniel-san where he explains how Karate originated in China as Kung Fu and came to Okinawa. It was converted to Te (hand), and then later to Kara-Te (empty hand). THis is essentially true (there are other styles, like how Pan Gai Noon became Uechi-Ryu, and Korean styles like Kang Duk Kwon and Hwarang-Do took Japanese influence and became what we know as Tang Soo Do and Tae Kwon Do, but Karate was the most proliffic).
So yeah, you don't need to be a historian to know this stuff. If you loved the film, theres a good chance you did some light reading and figured out that Karate and Kung Fu are as alike as oil and water. And I say this as one who doesn't prefer one style to another.
Even Kung Fu has styles in it that look very different from one another. THe Northern Shaolin styles you see in movies is very different than what Bruce Lee started off in (Wing Chun) and what my first Black Sash was in (Jing Mu).
There's WAY fucking much more I could say, but I'l save them for the inevitable Karate Kid DiF, or the rage-tweets that I'll pound out when I'm watching the remake.

Just got back from Clash of Titans, (which I enjoyed immensely, thank you very much) and apparently they're remaking the A-Team...and it looked Bad....ASS!! Although having never seen the original, I can't bitch and whine about how they're ruining the original, but I'm someone on here can fill that void rather quickly.
And also apparently they made Guardians of Gahoole into an animated flick, this excites me, although I don't remember alot about the books, I do remember reading them...and enjoying them.

Set 'Space Camp' on the space station.
Set 'The Seven Samurai' in Brazil.
Hire Trey to make a Muppet movie.
If I like the concept of the movie AS YOU MAKE IT, I'll watch it. I don't care how faithful it is to the original, or if the title is a little incongruous.
