Re: Random Movie Talk That Probably Doesn't Deserve Its Own Thread
You can do it for bad comedy. Catalina Caper, for example I'd expect just general joking rather than a scripted riff.

See: SFDebris' review of "The Outrageous Okana" for tips on commenting on bad comedy
That was a comedy episode?!
wasn't it the one with Transporter Chief Terri Hatcher?

"Comedy" being a loose definition. Okana is supposed be cracking jokes, similar to an 80's version of Captain Jack Sparrow.
Your mileage may vary.
Also, yes to the Terri Hatcher. Also, Joe Piscopo...
For other Trek comedy, see "Profit and Lace."
For other Trek Horror Beyond All Imagining, see "Profit and Lace."
FIFY.

I am a bit surprised by the sudden resurgence of the biblical epic. I had wondered, about 6 years ago, if that could ever be a thing again, in the same vein as Ben-Hur and The Ten Commandments.
Apparently, it can be. Also, interesting read. I don't blame them for using CG animals but I'll be curious to see the end result.
Pssh, what are you guys talking about!? This is clearly the best Noah movie of all time, I don't know what Aronofsky is thinking even trying to top it.

If it doesn't involve Kirk Cameron talking about bananas, I'm not interested.

Great film

Oh I beg to differ.
Speaking of Noah, I have 0 interest in biblical movies, but now that I've been spoiled on what the 3rd act of Aranofsky's movie is about, dammit, I may have to see it

All I've heard is that he deviates wildly from what we traditionally think of as the story of Noah's Ark. I heard something about gigantic six-armed angels? Where did you get spoiled? I'm actually kind of tempted to read about the ending.
Potentially huge 3rd act spoilers for Noah:

Fun fact, I have the script for this movie. Don't remember how I got it, but it's been sitting on my drive for the better part of a year.

Would you care to send that my way? I've been really curious about this project for a while.

Same here. I read about this movie and another "biblical" epic that is supposed to come out next year or so as well, though I can't remember the director or topic...

I want to see this only to see if Tony Danza says "Noah" exactly like he says "Mona."

Exodus. Directed by Ridley Scott, starring Christian Bale and Sigourney Weaver.

Thank you, sir. That should be interesting. I remember thing, "Wow, i did not expect those films from those directors."
Also, Ender's Game is out on first of November. Probably the worst way to celebrate All Saints Day

It basically encapsulates everything I've been saying about the DTV action genre. Really nice to see a mainstream critic shining a spotlight on Universal Soldier: Regeneration and Day of Reckoning.
Letterboxd just killed my list of people that I follow (except for Jimmy, for some reason). I was able to find a couple of people and add them back, but I'd like to know who on this forum uses Letterboxd to record what movies watch. I'd be interested in following you.
Letterboxd isn't the greatest thing ever, but it's convenient to track what movies I've watched and see what others are watching.

Because I'm awesome, duh! Not sure how that has anything to do with it, but I just thought it was important to point out.
Went to a talk by Walter Murch at Johns Hopkins University tonight. Interesting fellow. This was his first time back in Baltimore since he graduated from Hopkins in 1965.
He had a book of his own Italian-to-English translations of the writings of Curzio Malaparte published in 2012. Tonight he talked about how when translating from one language to another, a lot of tough decisions have to be made, like what to translate literally and how your translation of one sentence will affect the next one.
Then he related that concept to film editing as the art of translating a screenplay into the language of film. He said something to the effect of, "A picture is worth a thousand words, but a word is also worth a thousand pictures. And editing is a matter of wrangling all the pieces together in order to form a translation that is true to the original script."
I don't know if that's a new idea or not but it's the first time I've heard it put that way. Thought it was interesting.

Well, I'm still stuck in the whole "If a picture's worth a thousand words, why is ultimate brevity the holy grail of describing 24 images a second?" phase of things, so I couldn't say. Sounds like something that might be true though.
