Re: Fitocracy
What the hell, if you've got any left, me and matt can swap notes on how to do this from home.

Where do I sign? Would love to do this.
I requested an invite for this a while ago, and had completely forgotten about it. I just signed up. Where do I start?

Thanks for the invite Dave! I have to say, this is a genius idea, love the idea of the quests (though they appear to be dominated by barbell exercises at the mo).
Going to do the "As Seen On Tv!" quest tomorrow as that's my cardio day. Thankfully the quest only includes 5 push-ups, my shoulder muscles are still aching a bit from my workout at the beginning of the week! I find I'm running out of energy for the last couple of exercises, so may need to eat a bit more before.
In the meantime, I have to figure out a way to do pull-ups in my flat. I've seen some folks using a table and doing an incline version to begin with, so will probably give that a go (and hope my table doesn't break!). Does anyone have one of those fancy door contraptions that allow you to have a bar in a doorway?

It's kind of fun. I trained on Friday before going to a festival, but made sure I came home first expressly to upload my workout. The gentle competition is a positive thing, it really helps to keep you ticking along.
I totally forgot about the whole quest thing! I should do some.
Wow, great work on that weights workout Dorkman. Were you in pain after? From the looks of it you've been building up for quite a while so perhaps this only breaks the sweat out!
I will have all the points! All of them I say!
I get a little sore, especially across the upper back/shoulder blades, and somewhat in the shoulders. I pretty much no longer get the debilitating, can't-move soreness the next day, although I keep trying to get there because then I know I got the most out of the workout. (I'm starting to focus more attention on my legs, which are a weak point, so I might start feeling it there for a while.) I think it's somewhat to do with having worked up to it but more that I'm making sure to get a LOT of protein (150g+/day) to help recovery. I get most of it through protein supplements to keep the calories down, since I'm trying to lose fat, plus whatever happens to be in my regular meals through the day.
For supplements, it's not a bad idea to skulk around body building forums to see what protein manufacturers the kids recommend. Keep in mind that by and large, body builders are nut-jobs who tend to ruin themselves with chemicals, so stick to protein and steer clear of T and anything that messes with hormone balance, unless that's the path you want to go down.
That said I did get a good line on a local producer who makes decent product, and I'm sure there are stacks of similar companies in the states. It's a really good idea to talk to a nutritionist as you start exercising more regularly; diet is just as big a part of the story as the exercises, and adequate sleep is critical.
Name on the site is EricBranco. I haven't done anything yet. I've been too busy working.
What does a week straight of handheld shooting count for?

So...I failed to complete my workout yesterday and am feeling shite about it this morning. About half way through doing walkout/inchworms I started feeling sick so I threw in the towel as I really didn't want to throw up. I had left 2.5 hours after eating before I began the workout, so either I need to allow for more time or I need to eat much less (it was a large plate of mostly vegetables) and also make sure to have more water before (but again, not too much!).
They were some tough compound exercises, with 30 secs to do as many as you can, and warm-up was probably a bit too intensive for me so maybe I bit off too much as well and peaked too early. Slow and steady wins the race as they say...
Don't worry about it, I haven't worked out in a week and a half because I've been sick and felt lousy. I'm trying to remember the words of somebody on the Fitocracy forum - it's easier to just not get stuck in the first place then get stuck and then have to get unstuck.
Throwing up is normal when beginning intense excercise, Crossfit used to have a t-shirt sporting the mascot "pukey". Eat about an hour before so you have fuel, work hard, puke if you need to. It passes.

Fun little app, I've heard great things. Unfortunately it's not ported to Android yet, so I can't give any first hand experience, but you apple people can grab it right now.
Pukey and I have had our run ins over the years but I don't much like him.
Had my cardio workout today and I'm feeling better for it. It's hard to record or find some exercises in Fitocracy so some I'm not logging and others I'm fitting it in where it seems best fitting.
At work today I started on this concept called 'greasing the groove', as I've been unhappy with my push-ups. It essentially involves doing 20% or so of your max reps throughout the day as and when, with the idea being to practice and get your muscles familiar with the motion. So when I go to the loo or grab some water I do an inchworm and then 3 push-ups (because yes, I can do about 10 of them before my face explodes).
Eddie - are you going to sign up as well?
Brian - sorry you've not been feeling great the last couple of weeks, hope you manage to get back on the horse. Chicken soup?
Oh heck, went to the supermarket after working out and now I can't remember what the hell I did!
Welp, I haven't worked out in three weeks and I just signed up for Warrior Dash.
I'm a dead man.
Could I grab an invite for this? Been meaning to start getting into shape.

Heck, I haven't run in years and I think I've agreed to a St. Patty's day pub run after work Saturday. Not sure if this is military thing or not but here's how I understand it:
Pick three bars within a mile of each other, and run to each; last one buys the first round.
Granted, you only wind up covering about a mile, but I can see this hurting by the second stop.
Then I have a twelve hour shift to look forward to at 6 a.m.
Hoo-frickin'-ah!
