Re: Release, Record: 11/9

UHF would be nice. Found out the other day Al is coming to town next month, so it'll be my first chance to see him. Been a fan since his first album came out.

If I'm right, the first post for the thread had better read "Wow, Doc totally nailed it. What an impressive action by this incredible man!"

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

Spoiler: It's Riddick. Coming in a couple hours, sorry.

UHF is unlikely to come out as an "official" release, because I think we'll ultimately decide it's not DIF-y enough. I mean, it's a comedy, and it's three people, and only one of them is a regular. The other two, Chad and Chris, are one-commentary-eachers. Might be too much for people to take, as far as changing-the-formula goes.

That said, if you're clever, /audio/uhf-mixed dot emm pee three might be a thing. pimp

Zarbs, you're welcome to post that episode if you want. We're just gonna keep it in Easter Egg territory over here, but it's real, mixed, and everything. Knock yourself out.

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

Sorry to ask this, but I have a reason- are we getting a live show this weekend and if so, what day? My reason is, I pay for the internet per day at my flat (it's a wifi thingy) so I just want to know what day I should start it, once I start, I have 24 hours and I can't stop it. If you get what I mean.

Sorry again, guys, just need something to do this weekend smile

You're recording Strange Days again or is it just being released?

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

Yeah, I was wondering why you guys hadn't released the original Strange Days commentary yet. I thought it was pretty good.

And V For Vendetta, oh boy. I'm so torn on that film it's not even funny. I like a lot of things about it, but when you look at what it could have been, the film becomes more disappointing.

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

I've watched V but only got half the experience. My hearing's not great and I rely on lip-reading a lot, so you can imagine I didn't have a clue what V was saying most of the time as he wears a mask. I was in a room with a bunch of people when I saw it too, so no subtitles. I confess I haven't been bothered to watch it again.

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

The Strange Days commentary was too glitchy to release, but we absolutely want to have a commentary out for that movie, so here we are.

Sorry to hear that Teague, that must be quite frustrating. Well, the silver lining is that I missed the last one and would like to have participated in the chat for it and watched it live. Maybe you're doing it... for me? smile

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

Once again you guys are getting me to watch a film I've avoided. I assume at least some of you are more familiar with this comic then you were with Flaming Carrot smile

(I don't know if even you guys doing a commentary would get me to sit down and watch From Hell. Just the idea of what they did to it makes me never want to see a frame of it)

Street Fighting Man by The Rolling Stones (love that song)
Ummmmmm....that's about  it.

Haven't seen Strange Days yet, going to watch that tonight.

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

V4V is a fantastic movie in its own right. If there were no source material, I can think of few problems in the film. It's just not a faithful adaptation.

Interestingly, it's unfaithful in the opposite way that CHILDREN OF MEN is -- COM is completely unfaithful to the plot of the source material but remains completely faithful to the themes and therefore essentially tells the same story. Whereas V4V is generally very faithful to the plot of the source material (though it adds the 9/11 Truther allegory of the epidemic) but the thematic underpinning is completely different and as a result the movie tells an entirely different -- even diametrically opposite -- story. But, I maintain, it tells that story quite well in and of itself.

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

It is interesting when an adaptation is the complete opposite of the original intent. Starship Troopers does that, and so does the musical Annie believe it or not. The creator of the comic was a hard core Republican who so hated FDR he killed off Daddy Warbucks because he believed capitalism was now dead in America, only to bring him back after FDR's death as a great evil had left the world. So, what does the musical do? It has a happy singing FDR and praises the New Deal. I don't think the creator was even a decade in the grave yet...

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

I've never seen/read any of Vendetta's source material, and it's been a couple years since I actually saw the movie. From what I remember, though, it blew me away.

What with the amazingly executed mind games toward the middle and end, V being so enigmatic and a fair bit distant for the majority of the movie, with shades and flashes of humanity escaping toward the surface at the same time, then the ending spectacularly blowing that lid off in a totally unexpected way...it affected me on a level I didn't even know existed at the time. That's not to say anything about the REST of the cast either.

Great movie, and really excited you're doing it!
