Topic: Vampire films

As you can see by my name and picture, im a big vampire movie fan.

So my question is :

Is there any cool vampire flicks being made or in the pipe line that anyone knows of..?

I know Dark Shadows is being made and also a Fright Night 2 is in the pipeline, but is there anymore..?

I recently watched Fright Night 2011 and Priest and a hand full of straight to dvd "how did they get made" vampire films, but i wasn't impressed at all, with any of them.

The last decent Vamp flick i watched was 30 Days of Night. I thought that was awesome. Shame about the shockingly awful sequel. Id rather suck broken glass and razor blades through a straw, than ever watch that crud again.

My top 10 best Vampire films

The Lost Boys
Fright Night
Near Dark
30 days of Night
Interview with the Vampire
Vamp
Nosferatu (1922)
Salem's Lot
Dusk till Dawn
The Monster Squad (If that counts)

I'll have to give the Subspecies films a mention, because i love all of those.

They're only noodles Michael.

Re: Vampire films

This post has nothing to do with Jaws.  I'm suspicious.  And I really like John Carpenter's Vampires.  But no one seems to remember that.

Re: Vampire films

Vampire$ was ok, but i just didnt buy James Woods character as a hard man vampire killer. It seemed as tho a gust of wind would have blown him over. I thought the story and the Vampire make up was good.

But i think they could of choose someone better to have played the lead. And i wasnt a fan of the stupid jokes he came out with either. James Woods just couldn't pull it off in my opinion. But it wasnt a bad film.. not when you put it up to the likes of Vampire in Brooklyn or a return to Salems lot.

And why im moaning.. i hated the blood transfusion rubbish in Near Dark. That part of the film sucked monkey balls.

I forgot to mention Let the right one in (Original) I loved that flick.

Da...Dum! Da...Dum! i think i may have to watch old Bruce do his thang! at the weekend ;0)

Re: Vampire films

Just throwing my two cents in, I totally dug 30 Days of Night, except for 2 things:
1. The passage of time element wasn't very good. I never bought that they had been hiding out for a month. Felt more like a full week, tops.
2. The ending (last act) was laughably bad. I won't spoil it, but it took all the tension and serious tone out for me and nearly ruined the entire picture.

As much as I love The Monster Squad, I don't consider it a vampire film (though it has a few vampires in it). I think the first 2 Blade films should be added to the list. Shadow of the Vampire is also good, in my opinion.

I feel that Near Dark is a perfect movie and the blood transfusion element totally fits and makes sense within the context of the world that Kathryn Bigelow and Eric Red created.

If you haven't seen it already, you should check out Daybreakers. It does something unique with the vampire genre. Similarly, I hear very good things about Stakeland, but I've not seen it yet myself, so can't judge on its quality.

I love the original, but I did enjoy the Fright Night remake. To each their own. No clue if other vampire films are in the works other than Dark Shadows, but given their current popularity, I'm sure they're on their way.

Re: Vampire films

Vampire films are dead, pending a Pirates-like reboot.

Re: Vampire films

What if Twilight wasn't about horrible monsters who are rilly, rilly nice and awsum boyfirends if you get to know them? What if they were "elder lords" or druids or aliens or something? Would Twilight be okay then?

Warning: I'm probably rewriting this post as you read it.

That'd be a good start, yeah.

Re: Vampire films

If it remains primarily about how important it is for a girl to have a boyfriend in place of a personality, then TWILIGHT is a problem whether it's vampires or not.

Re: Vampire films

That too.

But it's weird, I don't know why, but for some reason the idea of it being druids or something seems less goofy to me. I don't know why.
