Topic: I think I understand now why I'm so tired.

So I sat down while waiting for some renders today and did some quick math.

It ends up that on Muppets I worked on 30% of the shots in house, and then rolled right over into Underworld 4, where I am currently (in what has to be cosmic irony) working on 29.5% of the shots.

It makes me feel a little better in understanding why I can be so exhausted when I get home at night, and why I am now really looking forward to the week back East for thanksgiving, away from computers almost entirely.

Seth, did you do work on Covert Affairs?  I was flipping through the channels the other day and caught the show in one of those car scenes you were talking about during one of the intermissions.  I believe it was the one where you all talked about bad effects jobs or something along those lines.  I ask because in the shots I saw, the background outside the car was in perfect focus as was the foreground inside the car.

LOL, no not working on that, but when you realize that most shows if they have any effects shots, it will end up being car driving shots.

A 30 minute sitcom will almost never do a fully involved visual effects shot, for any number of reasons. Time, budget, just doesn't make any sense for the concept. But you will invariably get a few two people in a car going somewhere shots, and someone had to sit and do the driving comps.

Most of the time they end up being good, and every now and again they just ... don't. It probably goes back to the point that is made a lot of, if you have a small sample size it's easier to get them all better, but when you expand the sample size exponentially to cover that many projects ...
