My story of the One Ring
Years ago I was working in East Greenland as a guide.
I was walking home after I had unloaded my group for the day at the airport and sent them flying to Iceland. Instead of taking the usual route home I took a path which we almost never took tourists through. I came to a stream and on the other side lying on the moss next to the water was a silver ring. I jumped over to the other side and holy shit. It was a replica of the One Ring. It was a small ring, probably in a woman's size. I could not put it on at any cost. It was a high end replica, complete with inscription on both outside and inside. It was silver, not gold one but I got to say it was beautiful.
It probably was from a German kayak group who had camped close by few days earlier and had flown home maybe a day or two before.
I took the ring home and got a leather string and had it around my neck for a while.
I later gave the ring to a girl I was dating and she wore it around her neck. Then one day it was gone. She had given the ring to somebody else. And all summer I was seeing this ring around town on different girls. When I was going home at the end of the summer I tried to find the ring as I wanted to take it home with me (It wants to go home). I could not find it no matter how hard I looked and eventually I heard it was in a another town.
I find the whole thing funny and sometimes I wonder where this ring is now. Is somebody still carrying it around or is it in somebody’s jewelry box never to be seen again? I like to think it might not be in Greenland any more as many greenlandic girls move to Denmark to study and some settle down there. And you know, Denmark borders to Germany.
It want’s to go home!
