Topic: IRON SKY (what did you think?)

Ive honestly got to give credit to the little Vfx team that could.

And I had more fun watching this sober, then Battleshit drunk.

Re: IRON SKY (what did you think?)

I didn't even know they bothered releasing it anywhere, I know they didn't here.

Re: IRON SKY (what did you think?)

In the UK it was released in the cinema for one day but it sold out in so many places that they extended it for another day or two. This was last week, some cinemas are still showing it now and it is already out on DVD/Blu Ray here......

I absolutely loved it. I thought the script held together in a way most films of this genre dont really bother with

It was a fun movie. Nazis and space, can't go wrong with that smile

Re: IRON SKY (what did you think?)

Just watched it on DVD with my wife; she ended up sitting through most of it playing DrawSomething, and declared it to be a "boy's film" at the end (which is kind-of code for: "all action and no sense").

I thought it was okay; I laughed a couple of times, and thought there was at least some effort put into the story, but overall I think they could have done better with the characters and the surprises, and the general tone was an insipid mix of limp political satire and so-so space malarkey.

I think there were two extremes they should have considered dialling the movie up to: either full Independence Day or full Strangelove, but I wonder if they were held back from such boldness by having to appeal to  enough funders to fill several large Starbucks, numerous Scandinavian arts committees, and the members of an internet forum.

Re: IRON SKY (what did you think?)

I tried watching this last night, and I turned it off after about maybe 20 minutes. Really unfunny, haphazard and just... weird, in that 'is this the real film? I can't believe how badly this is edited and put together' way.

And really, a piss take of that scene from Downfall?

Why not?

Re: IRON SKY (what did you think?)

Because the source scene is a dramatic scene from a serious drama movie that's only funny because people have changed the subtitles to trivial alternatives and it's Hitler raging about it (Star Wars changes, Prometheus etc.). It doesn't work for people who understand German and it doesn't work when you convert the scene to English and have it be some unknown character ranting at some unknown other characters. It's like doing a parody of a parody, like ripping Simpsons where they do something funny with a well known movie and not realising why that was funny and why, painfully, you can't make it funny here.

Shame too, because the visual effects look great.

Re: IRON SKY (what did you think?)

Well, you gotta remember that this came from a group known for producing parody fanfilms - so the idea of them riffing on a parody meme fits right in with what I expected from them....

I'm glad they reined in some of the insanity of Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning - overall, I enjoyed this for what it was, although I do think it kinda derailed itself at the end and petered out, instead of going out on a bang - the "bangs" they did pick at the very end were not what I was expecting...

But man, some serious kudos to Lee Stringer and his effects team - the effects work in this one was stellar, especially coming from such a small crew...
