This is truly awesome.

After 8 months flight-time, and 7 minutes of terror, come 2 weeks of boring checks. Hopefully we'll get some proper driving in the 3rd or 4th week. I was surprised to learn its rolling speed is the same as the MER Spirit and Opportunity rovers. So we won't get much more than 100M a day out of them.
The good news is that its RTG powersource can last for at least 14 years.

I can't help but imagine that early astronauts—especially those who went to the surface of the moon—figured their chances of returning safely were very slim. Brave, brave men.

Rest in peace Neil. I suppose after going to the moon, death is about the only great adventure left.

Re: Space Nerds

yeah, that's mentioned in HBO's From The Earth to the Moon. The Apollo 8 crew got flack fro their reading from the bible while rounding the moon Christmas Eve, so Buzz was told not to do anything publicly.

If Aaron Sorkin was writing the script for that scene, Neil and Buzz would have a fast-paced witty snarky argument about religion with a lot of sass from Neil at Buzz's superstition.
