Re: Suggest a movie!

^according to the tv ad, the Prometheus DVD comes with (1) a whole new opening and (2) a whole new ending - maybe this'll be enough to fix it, though (after reading many comments on the film) methinks a (3) whole new middle bit too would be required,  tongue

Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai is on Netflix streaming. You should really watch it if you haven't.

Seeing as the 50th anniversary of Bond is this year how about we see a James Bond film or two before Skyfall comes out?

I think they're on Halloween theme till the end of october, though I suppose they could do a bond or two in November before Skyfall hits in the US. Probably From Russia With Love or Goldfinger would make sense since they started most of the series tropes.

did anyone pick up what Teague said the order they were going to do the next couple of movies from the Justin TV feed?  I thought I heard them basically make a rough schedule for the coming weeks...

I didn't.

Did we do that?

I don't think we have a hard schedule.

We were on mic discussing movies -- ones we could do a commentary for, ones we couldn't, and ones we wanted to do just not on the day. Switch may have misinterpreted our "We'll do these later" conversation as setting a schedule.

One of my most-watched films is THX 1138, so it would give me great pleasure to hear even more voices in my head during that film.

OH and Big Fish.

Re: Suggest a movie!

On the subject of found footage horror, I recently discovered the absolutely amazing History Channel documentary 102 minutes that changed america. It uses footage from people all over New York on 9/11 to depict the events in real-time, and it is seriously the most harrowing thing I've ever seen. You wouldn't believe some of the crazy footage they managed to find, the sound design is amazing. To my knowledge it's the only non-fiction found footage horror film that's been made. Whole thing is up on youtube if people are curious:

Re: Suggest a movie!

There's a great film in that vein just called "9/11" which was made by two French brothers who were filming a documentary about their friend and his fire department squad. They followed them out on calls and everything. One day they got a call that a plane had flown into the World Trade Center. So one of the brothers follows the firemen as they respond to the call, and the other stays at the station and films the reaction of the people left behind.

They're on the ground floor of one of the towers as it collapses, and they're trapped for some time. It's truly harrowing stuff, maybe the best film I've seen on 9/11. It really captures the spontaneity of the whole thing. They didn't know they were responding to one of the most horrific attacks ever on American soil, and the filmmakers didn't know they were capturing all of it. To me, it's the definitive 9/11 documentary, if there can be such a thing.

I'm pretty sure this is it.

Re: Suggest a movie!

Thanks for the link, watched it. I think the footage is pretty crazy, but I HATE the use of narration through the whole thing. I wish they'd just play the raw footage and audio more or less uninterrupted. It basically ruins it for me, cause the narrator is so goddamn on the nose and has to explain what everyone is feeling and what is completely obvious from the footage, just distracts and takes away from the event.

That's why I like the history channel one so much, it's just ambient music and sound design over raw footage.

Never seen Troy and have no interest in it, so that's one I'll avoid smile

Can't wait for a Prometheus one, though.  It's a shame DiF have already done Alien, that would have been an interesting double bill.

Re: Suggest a movie!

I'd like to hear a Troy commentary as well. There aren't nearly enough historical films in the DiF library at the moment - that's not meant as a criticism, just an observation that SF has dominated so far.

Re: Suggest a movie!

I have a passionate love hate relationship with Troy.  Some pretty laughable choices in terms of dialogue, acting, plot choices, etc.  However the production design is breathtaking and I'm on record as being a huge fan of the fight scenes.  I'd love to DiF all over it.

Well, if you want historical films, why no Cecil B. DeMill's "Ben-Hur" or "The Ten Commandments." Those are good historical film pieces, both as period pieces and as film history.

Re: Suggest a movie!

Those would likely fall into that Citizen Kane category, i.e. what could DiF really say about it?
