Re: Backyard Blockbusters

I listened to the episode having seen nothing more than the trailers that were posted here a while back. It's still an interesting discussion about documentary filmmaking and the fan-film subculture in general. I probably would have gotten a little more out of it if I had seen the documentary beforehand, but it was entertaining nevertheless.

Re: Backyard Blockbusters

Part of the trailer made me realize how much more of fan films are actually out there. I mean, I knew about SW from theforce.net boards long before I made to DiF -back when all you needed was "Duel of the Fates" and a forest wink

But, the whole Star Trek fan film community is exciting to me and I like the fact that this documentary shines a light on something that not everyone can be familiar with.

God loves you!

Re: Backyard Blockbusters

As we discuss a bit in the episode, BB isn't available in any form of general release yet.    Right now John's making the rounds of festivals and conventions etc, which is standard practice as the first step for an indie project.

The goal is to collect as many "Grand Prize in the _________ Festival" and "Official Entry in ___________ Festival" as you can, in order to make the project seem all the more worthwhile to a potential distributor and encourage them to want to pick it up for release.

And if I had listened to the episode, I'd have known that big_smile

Will listen to it tomorrow smile

Re: Backyard Blockbusters

This may have been asked somewhere in the hoopla that was the last 11 pages, and I may have missed it but is there a e-mail list or something where we can find out when/if this is going to be playing at a film festival near us?  I'm sorry I missed this in Atlanta as that's probably the closest you'll get to me, but I would like to see it.
