Re: Suggest a movie!

I would say the only true "comedies" of those are Orgazmo and Team America.

I mean full on comedies.  John Candy movies, new ones like the Apatow flicks, Harold and Kumar, things like that.

I think there is a lot to say about good comedies.

I can't say I'd look forward to a DIF commentary of Uncle Buck.

Re: Suggest a movie!

Really?  Hmm.  I'd LOVE to hear their breakdown of Uncle Buck or Planes Trains and Automobiles.

As you know, their commentaries don't focus on the movie itself all that often.  Something happens in the movie and they go off on a topic.  With John Candy, there is a LOT to go off on.  His performances (with John Hughes writing) are worth a lot of discussion.

Re: Suggest a movie!

Then you gotta do stuff like "Ernest goes to Jail" too.

Re: Suggest a movie!

I loved that movie growing up. My favorite part was when Ernest inexplicably became Raiden for like five minutes to effect his escape. I'm unsure if that makes younger me more innocent or just retarded.

Re: Suggest a movie!

I just finished watching the movie "Book of Eli". I found this movie HIGHLY entertaining with an excellent plot/ending. It's my vote that you guys do this movie, I think with your views on how this movie goes and the religion behind it it would make for AMAZING commentary!

Re: Suggest a movie!

The only thing I think I liked about that movie was that Gary Oldman was in it.

Any Spike Lee film (his good stuff).

Re: Suggest a movie!

Just finished the ID4th special. Great stuff as usual! Gotta memorize Pullman's speech for future impromptu speeches.
For a movie suggestion, I'd really like to nominate "The Monster Squad."
This '87 film really holds up to repeat views, has some special effects from Stan Winston, and displays the quotable lines one would expect from Shane Black.
There are some genuine frights to be had. At least it seemed scary when I was 7.

Re: Suggest a movie!

I love Monster Squad in a cheesy retro sort of way. Or how about another Fred Dekker film- Night of the Creeps? It's a classic (in my opinion)

And we're still waiting for a commentary of The Blob movie Trey worked on (another film I loved growing up) big_smile

Re: Suggest a movie!

yes! The 1988 Blob commentary is a no brainer. Trey Stokes and Frank Darabont are my peanut butter and ritalin-laced jelly. I met Darabont at Comic-con and he signed my "Shawshank" script. He wrote "To all good things...Frank." A sweet call back to his epic movie and one of my most prized possesions. So please...give me some Frederick J. Dukes!

That'd be 'the Blob'

I believe in nothing... except that a DIF commentary of The Big Lebowski would be awesome.

Re: Suggest a movie!

Not a fan, myself. I've said before if we do one we'd try to get Bertocci on to talk about Two Gentlemen of Lebowski.

Why is there no Back to the Future commentary? I'm surprised this hasn't already happened?

I think there's a Geekza commentary?

*ahem*

Re: Suggest a movie!

just finished the Die hard commentary. Bruce willis in the elvator shaft reminded me of something. "Elevator Action- The Movie!" Actually it reminded me of Emilio Estevez biting it in the Mission Impossible remake from 1996. i would love the DIFers to address this De Palma film. I sensed outrage in previous podcasts about killing characters we love. How would you feel when the entire team is wiped out in the first 10 minutes. In addition, any musings about the 5 feet 2 inch pile o' batpoo that is cruise would be swell. keep em' Coming!

Re: Suggest a movie!

I would like to suggest Shoot 'Em Up and Crank 2. Both of those movies are so absurd that a funny tangent is bound to emerge from a Down In Front commentary.

Re: Suggest a movie!

I just saw "Shoot Em Up" the other week. I … really don't know what I think about it. I enjoyed the experience of watching it and all that, but it's not clear to me whether the movie was trying to make a point with its tongue in its cheek, or whether it was just brainless entertainment. I could see it going either way.

Being John Malkovich. Has there ever been a movie where puppeteering plays a bigger role? This seems to be in The amazin' stokes wheelhouse.
