Re: #44 - Disney Buys Lucasfilm

In this case, the goose liver is your highly-sought-after demographically-relevant Star-Wars-consuming dollar, that they nourish now to reap rewards from later.

Also, that is one of the weirder sentences I've ever written.

Re: #44 - Disney Buys Lucasfilm

That doesn't make sense either. Because the only way they can force feed me is if I actually go see the damn things...which means they are reaping the rewards right then and there. If anything them force feeding me moar Star Wars is only gonna... drain...wallet..something...

This metaphor is falling apart on me here.

Re: #44 - Disney Buys Lucasfilm

By my count, that's 6 Star Wars movies in various stages of development (7 if that Zac Snyder samurai jedi thing ends up being legit). There's a good bet Disney is angling to have a Star Wars movie come out every year starting in 2015, the official "episodes" will be in 2015, 2017, and 2019, and these spin-offs will come out in the in-between years.

I heard a rumor about a year-year and a half- ago about Joe Johnston doing a Boba Fett movie, I wonder if it's the same one.

Re: #44 - Disney Buys Lucasfilm

It's really been interesting finding out (retroactively) which projects Unca George apparently was keeping afloat because he liked them, vs projects that actually made sense.   Now that Disney has control, they're clearing the dead brush as fast as they can.

3-D rereleases?  Nah, that's a money-loser - gone.
Clone Wars?  Five years is plenty, we can syndicate that.   Done.
Star Wars Detours - George thinks you're a hoot, Seth.   But not one other human on the planet thought that teaser was funny.  Clean out your desk.
LucasArts - Great once, hasn't had a hit in years.   Sayonara.

I wonder how many other money sinkholes will get filled before the purge is over.   Not ILM surely - they'll keep ILM to make Star Wars movies, at least for now.   But any other division better be making bank, 'cause the bean counters are on the march.  smile

Re: #44 - Disney Buys Lucasfilm

Ya, I'd feel more sad about Lucasarts closing if they'd done anything worth a damn in the last 10 years.
The people who were responsible for their most amazing stuff, like Grim Fandango and Tie Fighter and Jedi Knight have largely moved on, and they've been pushing out crap like Kinect Star Wars. If anything the licensing approach might actually lead to some good games for a change as more people get to take a crack at it.

Re: #44 - Disney Buys Lucasfilm

Yah. I really wish i could believe that 1313 was going to be awesome, but knowing Lucas arts. Hopefully now they can get someone to run with, if not 1313, then a similar concept would be cool.

I want some good, dark, grungy star wars gameplay man.

10 Years? Try 7, they were making great games right through '06. Your point still stands, but no need to exaggerate.

Re: #44 - Disney Buys Lucasfilm

Republic Commando is the last big really good release off the top of my head, that was 05, so ya, 7 or 8, you're right. Still a long damned while. They really seemed to start dropping the ball when the next-gen systems hit. They never ended up releasing a proper Indiana Jones game for ps3/xbox360, which seems to me like a sure-fire winner, and basically let Uncharted steal their thunder. They also completely abandoned the Space Sim genre, which they had been kings of for the past decade, and let a whole bunch of similar opportunities slip by.

RIP for the glory days though, they truly made some of the finest PC games of the 90s, most of which still hold up today.
