Well... doing some more fake math in my head.

This is a blue whale heart:

Scale that up proportionally...

Yeah, you could probably free swim pretty comfortably through Godzillas larger veins.

Re: Godzilla (2012)

Alright...maybe a small submersible.

Edit: I think a nuke might be a bit overkill and the fallout probably wouldn't be a good thing.

I have a hard time believing a couple pounds of C4 somewhere along the spine under the skin or better yet at the brainstem couldn't take him down. At least paralize him enough so he'll stop knocking over the damn buildings for 5 minutes.

You kid, but that is literally the ending of Meg (the novel).

Dude rides a submersible into a giant megaladon shark and cuts it's heart valves off, then swims out

Doing some rough fake math in my head, that ballistic would be roughly the size of a BB..maaaybe a paintball to Godzilla.

However, an oversized modern shell would presumbly be designed for maximum penetration and cause an exit wound far in excess of its entry size. It's not exactly going to be a linear calculation either. Just compare the effects of a bullet fired from a Barrett vs that of the more regular bullets, and that's just a few mms.

Of course, the bigger the bullet the better, and that's why you'd want to have a giant mecha carrying out a big gun equipped with such bullets. wink

That's the Pacific Rim solution - use a sword. It's cool, but still prefer the Starship Troopers solution...

Blowing it up from the inside works on everything! Asteroids, Trade Federation droid ships, Death Stars, giant bugs...

But you shouldn't even need a couple of guys - aren't there bunker missiles that essentially penetrate through several layers of the target and then explode?

Re: Godzilla (2012)

When I watched the trailer for this the first thing that crossed my mind was Independence Day. A really cool trailer, but let down by a CGI-fest that lacks any meaty substance.  I am always up for giving a film a chance so we will see.

I think Deep Rising is a better example of that kind of film, it's more playful and I think it suits it better.

I LOVE Deep Rising. Such an awesomely bad great terrible entertaining movie.

Some of the shots in there, particularly the ones of Godzilla underwater and such, are...kinda bad, VFX-wise.

Unless this is still Gareth doing shit in his bedroom all alone, in which case I quit.

Re: Godzilla (2012)

This could still be a Man of Steel situation where the trailers sell a bill of goods the movie doesn't deliver, so I remain cautious. The big issue is that this leans hard on city destruction porn, and I may just be over that stuff at this point. Characters/story has potential and there's some interesting images there, so I'm still giving it the benefit of the doubt.

Re: Godzilla (2012)

Trailer is... acceptable, but that's only the first hurdle. Second hurdle: rotten tomatoes score needs to be over 80%. Only then will I allow Godzilla to kindly take my money.

Agreed, but unlike Man of Steel and a lot of films of that ilk recently, this film focuses on the ordinary human victims of Godzilla's rampage, so I'm okay with it.

Let's be honest: the more the film is like a REAL Godzilla film, the lower the score will be. I'm going to be very curious as to what standard people hold this movie up to.
