For all the bitching we get I'm kinda amazed how how many reboots/sequels are on this page.

That's a good point. A more interesting challenge is come up with three movie ideas that aren't prequels/sequels, reboots, spin-offs, re-imaginings, or even adaptations of books, games, graphic novels. To make it even harder, they can't contain a teenage superhero, or a chosen one, or a third-act 'WWE fight'.
[Dune, for all its highbrow powerpolitics, contains all three of these overused tropes.]

I think that's partly because people who have good original ideas would rather keep them to themselves and go pitch them instead of posting them online.  wink

1) Ghostbusters 3 so Dorkman and I can move on with our lives.

2) I like Zarban's 60s Bond idea. A lot. A whole lot.

3) Space Jam 2.

1. ElfQuest - Wendy and Richard Pini have been trying to get a movie version of their comic book series done for years now. I'm dying to see an animated version of this story on the big screen. I would sacrifice my other two wishes just to get this one made.

Given the comic only exists because it was easier for Richard to start his wife a comic book publisher than an animation studio, the comic would adapt easily. On the other hand, I actually have the video they let someone make in the 90's (I never bothered getting a refund when the Pini's told everyone to, so a copy actually showed up in the mail). It's so horrible it almost should stand alone as the only adaptation. (they took comic panels, colored them, then moved some sill images around them)

2. Howl's Moving Castle - Someone needs to fix the awful mess Hayao Miyazaki made of Diane Wynne Jones's delightful book. Being Studio Ghibli, it's an absolutely gorgeous film, of course, but Miyazaki butchered the story in his adaptation and the voice acting is completely off the mark in both Japanese and the English dub. The spin-off/sequel, Castle in the Air, would also be much appreciated.

Miyazaki, and the Japanese in general, have even less respect for source material than Hollywood does. Just about everything based on a Western story, even Kiki, could stand a more accurate remake.

This is why I haven't shared my writing here...or something like that wink

I've added to my three and they all video game related. Come on, there is bound to be a good video game adaptation SOMETIME!

Anyone?

Anyone?

Well, I'll wish for them anyway.

1. Deus Ex. One of my favorite PC games of all time. It is very cyber punk as well as a combination of many conspiracy theories that have circulated around the world (think National Treasure but less world history and more global domination). It is also has a dystopian atmosphere where the world is on the brink of a global pandemic, hence the subversive organizations slowly taking more direct control.

2. A Halo movie, as mentioned by BDA. Weta Workshop has done some props and such for the concept work. It doesn't have to be about Master Chief, though that is the obvious first choice. If I were to make a movie about the first game, I would mainly use the novelization to start off with.

However, as indicated by "Forward Unto Dawn," you can have a Halo movie without Chief being the center protagonist.

3. Perfect Dark. Another one of my favorite games of all time and again takes a more conspiracy theory aspect, but involves more with aliens and science fiction settings than Deus Ex. You definitely can do more with the spy style movie with this one, starting with a heist and building towards the war with the aliens.

Edited to add my choices and fix typos

if we're gonna go there, how about Grim Fandango adapted by Pixar.

1. I'm with Dorkman on the need for a Bioshock movie done properly.  I'm not even sure if I care if it's the story from the game but seeing Rapture done properly with a quality story would be epic.  I'd love to see Fincher do this one.

2. A conclusion to HBO's Deadwood.  The biggest cancelled series disappointment of my media consuming lifetime.

3. I'd like to see a movie set in the testing facility in the Portal franchise written by Joss Whedon.  Not necessarilly the main story from Portal/Portal 2 but something involving Cave Johnson before the facility was vacated.

Ooh, I've got one. A movie version of Half-Life 2 directed by Alfonso Cuaron. You can get basically anyone to direct the first movie, but the second game is where things really start getting interesting. If Half-Life 1 is Die Hard meets Alien, then Half-Life 2 is Children of Men meets War of the Worlds.

I've thought about this many many times. The world of Half-Life 2 brought to screen by Cuarón has given me many a wet dream.

What match-ups haven't we seen yet?

Robots, Aliens, Sharks, Supervillains, Dinosaurs, Zombies, Vampires, Gangsters, Nazis, Serial Killers, Cannibals,  Mutants, Werewolves, [Insert Animal Name] Man, Cowboys, Barbarians, and Nicholas Cage. (Did I miss any?)

Stick all these names in a bag and pull two or three out... and greenlight.

Holy shit.

I gotta ask - have you seen The Gamers (or either of its two sequels, Dorkness Rising and Hands of Fate)? The first is really low budget (we're talking indie crew still bootstrapping themselves up), the second got the official D&D license, and the third is actually about CCGs but follows the same characters. Really good stuff.

Anyway. i can't really think of properties I'd want made into movies. There are some book series I really enjoy - Timothy Zahn's Conquerors series and Joel Shepherd's Cassandra Kresnov series come to mind - but I don't particularly need them in a more visual medium.

I have not, I am not really a D&D fan, never played it smile

Re: 3 movie you wish would be made

1. Film adaptation of Mark Adams "Turn Right at Machu Picchu". Essentially a story about the "discovery" of Machu Picchu, but with the tone conveyed by Mark Adams writing. Essentially a "The Men Who Stare at Goats" adaption of "true events", with Alan Tudyk and Sam Rockwell as the leads.

2. A movie based on the pitch given in "The Mummy" podcast, where a group of veteran heist-men stumble upon a secret museum ritual being done to keep the monster asleep, to later come and steal it and utilize him as their newest member. They really come to bond with the mummy over several heists, and decide to embark on their greatest mission yet - to sneak an undead indestructible monster out of the country and get it home, without getting caught. The Mummy would obviously be played by Doug Jones.

3. Marvel Studio's Black Panther, an exiled man's journey to transform himself into something greater in order to retake his kingdom, with breath-taking cinematography, gratuitous use of beautiful African scenery and solid well-choreographed combat. I basically really wanna see Black Panther get his time to shine before the bubble bursts.
