Re: Release, Record: 11/9
Wait wait wait...! There's a book for this sort of thing? How did that evade me of all people? Is it anything like Lefler's Laws, and can I get Ashley Judd to personally hand me a copy?

On a related note, I'm writing my Ahab/Moby Dick slash fiction even now.
And no, Renee O'Connor! You cannot be in it!

I can't find it online, naturally, but there was an old Mad Magazine bit on modern ad campaigns to get people interested in re-released boring old classics (such as playing up how Snow White is hooking up with 7 single men). One they tackled was Moby Dick, with poster quotes like "She was wild and untamed... he would do anything to poses her!"

I imagine she'll enjoy the break.
I love his enthusiasm for the reference to Jonah, as though the story of Jonah and the whale is an obscure, intellectual literary reference and not the first Veggie Tales movie.
I remember reading Abraxas and the Earthman by Rick Veitch years ago in Epic Illustrated (I have the whole run if someone wants to buy it). A very good, very weird Moby Dick in space story.
I'm confused. Amazon says the DVD is already available. It even has two reviews already. Is there an official commentary on it?
It was released today, but has been pirate-able via torrent for at least a week already.
There's no "official" commentary on the DVD, Asylum doesn't tend to do those. There is however, a making-of and a blooper reel, both of which contain way too much me.
A couple people have released "official" commentaries to movies they've made via iRiffs, in one case because the studio refused to use the one they had recorded. I'll assume the episode coming this weekend is your official commentary for it, though?
Hmm, I dunno... is it an official commentary if it consists of the director and an actor/co-editor, plus two other guys asking "okay, so wtf happened here?" 'cause that's kinda the DIF version.
I also did a commentary of sorts with Renee, the first segment is online already but it's only available to paying subscribers at her fansite.
Neither of those I would really call an "official commentary", but I'm not sure the movie needs any more, with two semi-commentaries already out there.

Well, one of the best DVD commentaries out there is the one on the animated flop Titan AE with the director and someone else and it contains this classic exchange:
"This makes no sense! Why didn't we put a scene in here to explain what's going on?"
"We ran out of money."
"Ah, right..."
looking forward to the next one. What's it gonna be?!
listening to the end of the karate kid commentary, nice to just listen to you play the guitar while I edit stuff...
What are you guys planing to do next sir?
We're done recording for the year, probably, might do some Christmas movies next week for grins. I think TRON comes out this weekend.
On the topic of Christmas, I think you guys might be able to tackle A Christmas Story or National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. Classics all round.
Man, I was hoping you would do A Charlie Brown Christmas
//kidding. I doubt you would have enough talk about to get though the whole movie.

A Christmas Story would be fun to do, but you guys already did the ultimate Christmas movie, Die Hard.
Lethal Weapon is also a Christmas movie....
I've advocated Lethal Weapon more than once, I think it's a true classic. But some of these kids I work with haven't even seen it. ptui.
It's not available on Netflix Instant, which as I understand it means it doesn't exist.
I have my problems with the lethal weapon sequels, but the first one is almost a perfect movie. You kids need to see it!
To be honest, it's quite possible that the kids won't like Lethal Weapon. It was so influential and yet so... modest in scope... that they may feel like it's just so-so. It was the buddy-cop odd-couple comedy that launched a thousand ships, but Danny Glover ain't no Helen of Troy. Mel Gibson did turn out to have an Achilles heel, tho...
The truth is that Eddie Murphy did it better, first.
Lethal Weapon 2 is actually my favorite. 1 is certainly an underrated classic.
Just for the record, I've seen all the Lethal Weapon movies, the latter ones even in the theater.

Agree with this 100%. Fucking love the first two Lethal Weapons. A lot of people said it gets too comedic starting with the second but I think it is still pretty damn dark.

That's actually quite shocking. My sister is 18 and has seen them all. Although, I grew up with the films, and kind of forced them on her. Nah, she loves them too. Hopefully I'll get the new blu-ray boxset for my Christmas. Parts 2 and 4 are available uncut for the first time in the UK, now.
I understand why people younger than me haven't seen them. And yet-

There's a reason why you're my favourite, Brian. Ok, maybe not favourite.....not least favourite anyway
