Re: Suggest a movie!
I've probably seen the movie at some point, but read the book in school so know the fun scenes from there. The end trial is so fun they did a stage play just of that.

That stage play was directed by David Schwimmer.
You guys should do Treasure Planet. I fucking love Treasure Planet.
Love me, If You dare.
Let's get foreign here people, COME ON!
A Clockwork Orange and Robocop are both available on Netflix streaming. I would also like to hear commentaries on them please.
I watched the Bullshot trailer. Holy crap. It's Benny Hill presents James Bond 007. A tip of the hat for working in 7 or 8 tit jokes in a 2min trailer, though. Did i see a young Billy Connolly?
I'm waiting for DIF to do

Actually, it's funnier (and cleverer) than that.

Also, several enormous octopus tentacles.

Yes, but he can't see you. Or the Captain.
I just noticed TCM is showing The Caine Mutiny on I think January 9th. Check your local listings
I hope Avatar's on the menu. Other than the obvious exposition at the start, the more i watch it the more i like it.
Beldar, check the earlier podcasts. They did Avatar a little bit after it came out on DVD.
I'd like to see Man On Fire get a DIF. I just watched it, and it's a great movie that has way more "Tony Scott" going on in it than I remember. I watched it a couple times when it first came out and loved it, but watching it now I can see why I loved it, but it's like Scott was trying to make it as unlikeable as possible. Way too much cheesy 90's music video stuff going on. It's still undeniably awesome, tho.

Damn, my memory's going.
all the batman movies possibly? B&R must be bullshitted!
Also Gladiator, Speed, & The Godfather.
I have repeatedly went to bat for Godfather, which surprisingly doesn't get a lot of love from the crew, outside of Trey and I.
is it cuz Godfather's....kinda boring by 2011's standards? i think it kinda is a little bit lol
I disagree with the whole premise that something is boring or not by what year it comes out. I think boring is a personal and highly subjective metric. I find Transformers 2 far more boring than any of the Godfathers (except 3).
True. Jaws & Star Wars also came out in the 70s & those completely hold up today. what i meant was i think Godfather's just a different animal in that its paced much slower then those movies & it would have a harder time with people today who've never seen it. It's the anti-add movie..
Welcome to the forum, rubs.
Yeah. It took you that long to become "rubs."

The Godfather is a JJ Abrams movie compared to Once Upon a Time in America.

I'm gonna stop you right there......
The untouched director's cut of Once Upon a Time in America is both a classic and a cautionary tale of the studio system, and should be a lesson for all filmmakers of just how much damage a studio cut can not only do to your film, but your career as well.
Sergio Leone was one of the greatest filmmakers who ever lived and it is nothing short of a tragedy that when people think of OUATIA that they think of the studio mandated cut that was over seen by the ASSISTANT EDITOR OF POLICE ACADEMY 2, and not his director's cut. Though his cut is longer, it has a much better narrative flow, and feels like a totally different movie. Watch the documentary Z Channel for more on it, but do not judge that film by what you saw.
The Godfather's not boring to me just because it's 2011, it's an interesting story. If you've seen bits of it out of context all your life and are sick of it, you can't blame the movie for that. Try to watch the whole thing with fresh eyes.
I couldn't get into Once Upon A Time in America. It was the 2 dvd one, i think the director's cut. De Niro looked half-asleep to me, i had to give up after 1hr. I'll try again some day.
And thanks to the magic of Webtubes, the very clip from the Z Channel doc I mention. Skip to 5;37 of this clip to hear the talk about OUATIA.

Actually, I'd stopped already, but okay...

I saw the three-and-a-half hour version.
Note that my comment was about the relative pacing of the two films, not a value judgement on either.
