Re: Release, Record: 11/9

I just watched LETHAL WEAPON because I had nothing else to do.

I thought it was a fine movie. A bit overlong but I was watching the "Director's Cut" so I give it the handicap, as well as the "no one made them like this until this" handicap. Not much of an "Actioner" from a modern perspective but I can see how it would've rocked people back on their heels in 87. Definitely see the common ancestry with KISS KISS BANG BANG.

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

The 'Director's Cut' is too long, there are too many intros to Riggs, with the addition of that bloody sniper scene.  A lot of people are moaning that the new blu rays are the theatrical cuts and not the DCs despite the fact that Richard Donner has stated that the DCs are actually 'studio cuts' and that the theatricals are his preferred versions of the films.

The tag 'actioner' is a tad unfair (not from you, Dorkman, I mean in general as that is how the film is labeled) because the first film is clearly a thriller. The sequels amp up the action, especially the horse's anus that is LW4. On the plus side, it has Jet Li so that's a bonus.

Glad you gave the film a chance Dorkman smile

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

Got the first two Lethal Weapons on HD-DVD - I'd rate them alongside the Die Hard (not the 4th one) and Beverly Hills Cop (not the third) films as the 80/90s action classics. I even like Lethal Weapon 4 (though mostly because of Jet Li I guess).

The Director Cut sounds interesting, may have to experience that experience. I give a thumbs up for doing the regular cut as a Christmas movie.

Though I'm still hoping you surprise me with a 'From the Earth to the Moon' double-episode special. smile

Well, the Apollo 8 episode could be considered a Christmas one...

If I'm honest, I'd say 3 is actually the worst one. The last 15 minutes of 4 are too much though, it just drags on. At least the first 3 are 'kill the bad guy- THE END'.

Yeah, I'd go with the original cut of Lethal Weapon, it flows better. And it's set at Christmas big_smile I'd say to Teague to watch it beforehand though smile

Another Christmas based action film is The Long Kiss Goodnight, written by Shane Black. I remember Trey mentioning that film in a commentary once smile

Come to think of it, doesn't KISS KISS BANG BANG take place at Christmastime too?

What the hell, Shane?

Looks like the first episode of 2011 is going to be a last minute surprise. Can't wait!

If my non-existent sources are correct, it's either gonna be The Sixth Sense or Iron Man.

A real surprise would be Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol.

My Doctor Who watching is rather sporadic, for whatever reason smile I should try and watch all of the previous season if it's on DVD (watched the first one via torrent awhile ago).

If there's one thing I really wish the new Who would do, it's deal with his granddaughter Susan. Come on, give him family again!

Right, all added to my calendar, so nice and set to finish off one film saga, and start another.

Nice way to start a weekend after a slow and yet busy week at work.

Is it the Special Edition of Jedi? I feel like you guys should confront them, and this is your last shot.

The other two have been the theatrical editions, I think we should finish it that way.

We've managed to discuss the differences when they come up, and overall I think we've addressed the SEs suitably.

Trust me, we won't forget to mention that Hayden Christensen's stupid-albeit-pretty face now shows up at the end in some versions, even if that isn't the version we're watching.
