I love that movie. I don't know why nobody seems to know about it.
please don't make me watch Kingdom of Heaven again... I've wasted 6 hours of my life on that film, and that's enough. You haven't done Bladerunner yet. You need to do that one.
You guys haven't tackled anything Kurosawa yet. You guys should do Seven Samurai! Talk about some of the techniques used in that film like the axial cut.
I didn't like the theatrical cut of Kingdom of Heaven and wasn't impressed. THen I saw the directors cut and was gobsmacked at how much ass it kicked. 'm not talking about extended scenes, I'm talking entire characters, subplots, motivations, etc that were hacked out of there. For instance, did you know in the director's cut, that Emma Green's character had a son? And that he actually becomes king once Edward Norton dies? Or that the dude that Orlando kills in the beginnig was his brother? Yeah, that's the extent of the hackery. The studio essentially forced Ripley to cut two different versions of his film at the same time, and while Ridley made his case for his cut, the studio wanted more action and cut down everything else.
It's a superb film on its own, and its a shame what happened to it.
In the same vein, Kingdom Of Heaven could be fun.
I'd heard the director's cut was a big improvement on the theatrical. I just watched it and enjoyed. Thanks for mentioning it.

I had a hard time understanding the accents, especially at the beginning. And the dialogue was a little surface-y, or comic book-y but otherwise i thought it was great.
"We are, all of us, what we do. Rise a knight!!"
my problem with KofH was more a pacing/story issue. It just seemed boring to me, and it ran way too long; the theatrical version that is.
The Directors Cut was better in terms of story, but it still ran too long.
I had a very similar reaction to Robin Hood.
BTW, I saw Black Swan over the weekend, and thought it was an outstanding flick. You guys should consider doing the commentary thing on it once it hits DVD/BLuRay. I'm especially curious if this film fits into the category of 'perfect movie' I think it does, but I couldn't hear all the dialogue.

Bugsy Malone.
Setting: pitch meeting at paramount circa 1975. The communal coke salad bowl is half empty.
"It's the story of Al Capone during prohibition. But get this, it's a musical!! And all the actors are little kids!"
"I LOVE IT!!!" *snoooort*
I really like Bugsy Malone. Pretty sure Zarban does too

Bugsy Malone? A nice guy. A little too popular with the broads for my liking... But a nice guy.
The full movie? Cool. I listened to the soundtrack earlier, I'm good
Anyone else seen this movie 'Exam'? Go ahead and watch it, I'll wait.

It's not perfect, and the ending is a little muddled, but it's well-shot, well-paced, and well-plotted.
Pretty sure we in the UK can't watch things on Netflix but it is a film I've been meaning to watch at some point
Hey guys! I would love to hear you do a commentary for Run Lola Run. Classic movie in my opinion.
Greg, Australia.
We should just have a "film school" month where we do shit like Lola Rennt and Fellini flicks.
Do you guys have a list of films you still plan to do or are you just 'making it up as you go'?

That's a great idea.
Plus maybe a 'fan suggestion month'. You make a short list of our suggestions, then we vote. Might be fun.
Maybe. We already have two themed months planned for 2011, let's not go FUCKING OVERBOARD MAN, JESUS CHRIST
GOD DAMN IT BELDAR
You know what's fun? Occasionally getting e-irate for no reason at all.

SCREW YOU TEAGUE, NOT ANSWERING MY QUESTION.... nah, can't get into it, I'm too nice
(and your my query was ansered by your reply to Beldar )
Recommendations for Film School month (way more than possible):
Rashomon
Citizen Kane
Lola Rennt
North by Northwest
Paths of Glory
Das Boot
Soy Cuba
Treasure of the Sierra Madre
The Wild Bunch
Touch of Evil
Midnight Cowboy
Once Upon a Time in America (Director's Cut)
Europa Europa
Throne of Blood
Vertigo
Butch & Sundance
THX 1138
Godfather
Kane, Godfather, choose-your-Hitchcock and The Wild Bunch are my picks off of that.
My personal favorite Hitchcock is Shadow of a Doubt, with JoeCotton. But if we're doing a Film School month, Vertigo, Psycho, or NxNW would be a better choice.
My vote would be for Rear Window - one of the finest examples of visual storytelling in existence.
