Buh? The X-Men movies came before Spiderman. And they were WAY more grounded than the Spiderman movies were. Seriously, Raimi's movies aren't campy? That's the shit I'm talking about! How are they not campy! AGH!

I hate Raimi's campiness, but Spider-Man and, to a lesser degree, Spider-Man 2 were mostly fun adventures that took the characters' emotional states seriously. They're not great movies, but they're not bad.

Meanwhile, the best Superman movie—the Holy Grail of superhero movies before X-Men, hailed by some as Great Cinema—featured Superman flying around the world so fast that he turned back time. The villain's plan involved breaking California off into the sea.

Do I like "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on my Head"? No. It was a moronic piece of shit song shoe-horned into an otherwise-awesome cowboy movie to begin with, and it only gotten stupider being played over "back-to-nerd" Peter Parker.

Again, there's nothing wrong with Brian's original arguments. I just moderately disagree. It's Michael's "I like this movie! It's stupid! Look at that stupid thing! Hey, that was also stupid!" that made me decide once and for all that Teague is my favorite.

Re: Spider-Man 2

I like the first two Spider-man movies, but I don't love them.  The things you guys talked about, it being two cartoony, is why I liked it.  Because my background of Spider-man comes from the saturday morning cartoon, light hearted and a little ridiculous.  If Batman was treated like this, I would be yelling bloody murder.  In my mind, Spider-man is for kids, light and easy to understand, cartoony, where Batman is for adults, dark, complicated, and gritty.  I don't disagree with what you brought up, I guess I'm willing to accept it.

Re: Spider-Man 2

you guys are great btw, this movie just deserved a much  better discussion about why it succeeds or fails than you guys gave it.
Just for future note: when a movie has a 90%+ on rotten tomatoes i dont care whether you agree or disagree but you really need to explore the reasons why that 90+ did like it and why they are wrong if that is your view point.

there are all kinds of movies that just dont work for me because i cant relate to the characters but even when that happens I can still generally critisise the movie objectively and say "well these lines and/or action do support the character/theme even though i can not relate to the character/characters". Just because i cant relate does not mean its bad. It just means i cant relate. If most of the actions are trying to serve the character (and in the case of this move) the theme of the movie at the same time, it is still a strong/good movie.

I was actually thinking about the way you spelled "favorite".  You spelled it like a Brit, which you shouldn't be angry about.  So just be proud

I really thought everyone would love this movie, and was pretty surprised to see you all didn't.

But then was surprised that I agreed with you guys more than I thought I would. sad

All right, enough bickering.  We all know the very best Spiderman was the one where Morgan Freeman played Dracula.

Re: Spider-Man 2

Just finished this commentary up, and I do have some things to say.  A lot of times, it was mentioned that the commentators wanted a "grittier" Spiderman.  There actually is one that exists, one that is anchored in a more "this universe" feel.  And that's Spiderman Noir.  Set in the '30s, it's a great read, with villains who are more grounded in reality (if I recall, the Green Goblin is actually a crazy, hump-backed circus freak) and things of that nature.  I certainly recommend it; who knows, maybe that will be a good movie to make because, as was said earlier, it's the noir style movie and it's got a very gritty feel.

Re: Spider-Man 2

i went searching for the script for this and just found out that Mr. Sargant will be writing a polish of the new spidey reboot...  That probably means the new flick is gonna suck...
