A slim weekend, only two established DIF-folks were available for commentating, which gave us an opportunity to look at a movie we might not have otherwise looked at. And I'm really glad we did.
This might be a controversial one.

My argument has less to do with how recent a game is, and more to do with what it costs next to what I'd be willing to pay. Incidentally the new ones are too expensive. It's worth mentioning that I don't own DVDs and rarely see movies in the theaters.
Nah, not upset. Just confused by you gamer folk.
It has been recently brought to my attention that without video games, comic books, and Star Trek, I'm actually not a geek at all. Identity crisis. You know.
Yeah, yeah. I have literally nothing to stand on in this argument, I'm just sniping easy argument points from every direction and running from each post.
You know my whole point is that I'm happy with the old game I've played off and on for over ten years, right?
Yeah, I'm not surprised games cost that much, people keep paying it. I'm just saying it's not likely to facilitate some incentive for me to ever play one.
Invid: My point being, old books and old games have something in common, in that they're cheaper now and not necessarily *any* less enjoyable than they were or compared to modern works.
I guess it's just an alignment-of-incentives problem for me. I don't care enough about games to fathom spending more than ten bucks on one, is probably the real bit of it.
...isn't that a valid thing to do?
The only ones on your list that I strongly dislike are Dune and At World's End, by the way.
I still sit here in awe and wonder of the people who play video games.
Sixty bucks sounds ridiculous to me. Not high; fucking ridiculous. I'd pay ten dollars for a game, probably not fifteen. I'm not sure how they justify prices at or north of fifty bucks.
I could see it for something like Guitar Hero, where you have to get a peripheral controller, but for a disc that you pop in and shoot things with, sixty bucks is insanity.
I'm sure a lot of the price comes from work spent so it looks "amazing" on HD monitors (not sure why this is a priority) and from the cinematics games are stuffed with, at even higher rez. Bigger worlds, etc.. Meanwhile, my happiest gaming comes from occasionally popping in Goldeneye 64 and fighting off a couple of my buddies in multiplayer mode.
Sum total of buying that experience tonight? Twenty bucks, for the console, controllers, and game.
Sir, that's the basic precept of my day to day life.
Yeah, it's gonna be me, Jake, and Cloe.
I WILL KILL YOU
So here's the dillio. We're out of pre-recorded episodes, and literally everyone but Jake is unavailable to record this weekend.
What do you think we should do? (Options being skip a week, have one episode with me, Jake, and Cloe, or crazy fun Plan C alternative of your own invention.)
King of Kong is the most likely choice, off the top of my head.
I would be really obliged if you'd write down what it says for the eleven steps, or at least summarize. That sounds interesting.
Ask Brian, he mentioned it on Apollo 13, saying that they lit the charges after the ship had broken up to be sure no huge pieces destroyed neighborhoods in Texas on the fall back down.
Also, welcome to the forum Keith!
At Comic Con, Joss was on a panel with JJ Abrams and they were talking about the nerdiest fan interactions they had ever had. JJ started, telling a story of how he used to write letters to FX guys, and the guy from Exorcist actually mailed him the tongue from the movie.
Joss followed, saying "well, I do have an Alien egg...but I had to bury the franchise in order to get it."
How can you stay mad at a guy like that, huh?
I had been shooting a thing for 36 of the preceding 48 hours prior to this commentary. I came downstairs in pajamas to find these three people on a couch, ready to go. And go we went.
Anyway, I'm pretty quiet on this one, so if this episode is better than most you know why.
Invid, "Overnight" is the best one I know, and it's usually on Netflix instant. Very hard watch.
Hey folks. The time has come, if you're anywhere near San Diego, make your way to Tin Fish restaurant (which incidentally is right in front of the convention center, next to pretty fountains) at 7:30 p.m. to meet up with whatever representatives of Down in Front are at (or still at) the con. They'll be the ones outside on the patio. Drinking beer.
One of us has bright red hair. (Some asshole.)
It's sure to be a no-big-deal, just a happy dinner with friends previously only found in your head. If you have questions, the best way to get in touch is to email them to me at (teague)(dot)(chrystie)(@gmail.com) and they'll pop over to my phone.
If you're at the con and not sure if you should come to the dinner or not, you should.
Here's a map.
It's here. At least in the US.
You might have heard our amazing "Trey tells the whole story of making it" Intermission. If not, look! I linked it just now!
I'll let Trey explain things, but here ya go, people.
I thought your comment about a ten second fall seemed wrong, so I Wolfram Alpha'd a bit. You're right, and in fact conservative. A 9.7 second free fall would get you 1,500 feet, 10 seconds would get you further.
If we assume the bridge was 100 feet up, the fall would have been roughly 2.5 seconds. 200 feet, 3.5 seconds. 300, 4.3 seconds. Well played, lady.
I like that theory the best, and like the way you put it the best.
