Drowning. Fuuuck that. Desperately struggling to do anything to get air, but know you wont, and your body is going to force you to inhale in a second but all you're going to get is water so you know you're dead and you're so pumped full of adrenaline and terror and you're heart's beating so fast and nonononono fuck that.

What skill do you wish you had but know you'll never bother to learn?

I've always liked 4chan's solution to this problem where you create link(s) to reference the post(s) you're replying to, and a post automatically creates links to posts that reference it. Clicking these links takes you directly to the post in question, or just hovering your mouse over them will either highlight the post if it's on your screen or pop up a little window with the post if it's not. It makes it easy to follow specific threads of conversation, find the context of the post you're reading, or find out who else weighed in on a certain topic.

I love you Teague, that's awesome.

If I can figure out a setup that records it well, I might break out the Didgeridoo. Hmmm.

I don't see this being any more effective than regular arrows. If they're armored such that regular arrows are ineffective, I can't see you getting anything into their eyes. If you shoot enough, maybe you can irritate their lungs some, but I can't see it doing anything meaningful. While it's a cool idea, it doesn't pass the bullshit test for me.

Y'all are awesome and make awesome shit, and I intend to be here for whatever awesome thing you do next. If I could send you a fist bump through the internet I would. Job well done.

You mean Tydirium? I'm still waiting for that to come out. Anything that can claim to be a repeat of IFOTOS, on the other hand, would be amazing.

I derped and forgot that you get high tides on both sides of the planet, and low tides between them. This help regulate the temperature on the back side of the planet, making it always colder then the planet side. That probably means constant, really shitty weather along the transition zone. Always raining, constant extreme winds, etc.

I'm going to second Tom and BDA here. It's more important for the details to serve the story then vice versa. Unless you're writing super hard sci-fi, no one is going to get mad at you because your math doesn't check out. Don't feel beholden to my math and speculation if it's getting in the way of your story. I was going to type more here, but I realized I was just repeating what Tom said in different words, so just go read his post again.

Edit: I will add this: It's ok to tell us about your world, the details you give us help bring it to life, but do it in a natural way, and don't overwhelm us. We should learn about your world the same way we learn that Tattooine has two suns, or that Coriscant is all city. No one sits down to have a conversation about it, it just shows up in an establishing shot and everyone just treats it like it's normal, 'cause to them it is. Those details are an important part of bringing a world to life, Tattooine isn't really the same without it's twin suns, but they're backstage to the story taking place.

Also the orbital period would be thirty hours, not days.
Maybe that would force the moon inside the planet's Roche limit. Or at least inside "we're dead" limit...

Ah, I misread earlier. 30 hours has us orbiting at ~125000 km. The quick rule for Roche limit is 2.5 times the radius of the larger body, so in this case it is ~62000 km. So, while we're not inside the Roche limit, we are rather close to it. As were tidally locked, we don't actually have tides, but if we did, they would be extreme. As it is, it would mean that water might not necessarily run downhill in favor of running planet side, and the planet side would have much more water than the other side. And our moon isn't all that round.

The angular size is now ~1300 arc minutes, or 40 times larger than the moon. This means eclipses could last as long as 4.5 hours. Because the planet is such a large portion of the sky, it's reflected light is going to be quite significant, and because the time when you would have the most sunlight and least planet shine you are instead eclipsed, the planet side is going to be really blue at night fading to pretty blue during the day, then dark. The thermal heat being radiated from the planet is going to make the planet side of the moon much warmer than the back side, and the back side will get competitively very cold during the night, which would likely cause extreme weather and high winds as things try to balance out. This, I think, should give the back side plenty of rain to balance out it's shitty oceans.

Because you said Neptune, I used actual Neptune to do some quick and dirty math. To have a 30 day orbital period our "moon" has to orbit at about 1,000,000 km. This makes our gas giant have an angular diameter of about 170 arc minutes, or ~ 6 times larger than the moon. This would roughly mean that an eclipse would last about 6 times longer, for a max of about 45 minutes when everything lines up and you're standing in the right place. As for how blue it would make your nights (and, potentially, at least a little bit, your days), use your imagination, I feel like you've got a significant amount of artistic license there.

EDIT: And to add, just in case you don't know, your planet is tidally locked to the gas giant. The above only applies to the gas giant facing side of the planet. The other side will have uninterrupted days and very dark nights. And is probably colder, I think. And gets hit by more meteors.

I think it's a great idea, one that I'd bring to the reception, too. Put GoPro's on all the tables, and attach them to various adults and children to get pretty much all the perspectives.

Boter wrote:

Tom's idea of GoPros on tables has merit, but as he said it'd be pretty expensive. If you were to do it at all, I'd place it on the parent tables during toasts, especially if you don't have an assistant videographer getting establishing shots for you.

While we're not getting that man GoPros, attaching some of them to people is an idea worth considering, thanks.

Tomahawk wrote:

Just remember to bring 128GB cards, and loads of batteries.

Boter wrote:

Also as Tom mentioned, battery life is a concern. A GoPro Hero 3 Black lasts for about an hour and a half, plus an hour with a battery pack on the back. Bring spares, especially if you have an hour long ceremony ahead of you. (Your battery should last the ceremony but you'll need to swap if you want to use it during the reception at all.)

I hadn't even thought to consider battery life yet, thanks for bringing it up.

I wouldn't use a GoPro, personally, for roving shots, whether intended to be used in motion or just going place to place. If you plan on moving during the ceremony you're better off with something with a nice long lens so that you can get closeups on the couple and maybe their parents in the seats, again for reaction shots.

This is a good point. The original impetus to use all the same camera was so that some shots would not be of a noticeably different quality than others. Should this even be a concern? What camera would you recommend? We're planning on getting Hero4 Silvers for our GoPros.

Boter wrote:

As for video booth messages, a GoPro would be too wide for one or two people talking into a microphone, but if you have a different camera for your main camera there it can provide a neat behind the scenes angle.

My understanding is that the newer GoPros have a not-wide-as-fuck mode. I've never worked with one, but I think that should work for this? I wish I had one to mess around with. hmm

A guy I know does audio for weddings and this year he wants to branch out and do video as well. Since I'm his go to video guy he approached me to do this with him. Our current plan to get several GoPro's and mount them around the ceremony as well as have me walk around with one. This gives us several different angles to work with when editing to keep things more interesting instead of being one looooong ass shot of the whole thing. For the reception we'll do something similar as well as have one set off to the side with a mic for people to leave video messages. Does this make sense? Any suggestions? Are we completely fucking this up? Fourth thing?

Now that I've been listing to them for a bit, I'm finally going to attempt to rank these. Let me do a quick preface though: When I get critique-y I tend to start sounding really negative. This is because I tend to focus on the things that could be improved instead of the things that are awesome. So, before I start, let me say I fucking love this album and want more. You did a great job!

1. Limp-Dick Christmas Lights

Everything just seems to come together perfectly in this song, and it feels so... Teague. I love it. I could do without the spoken stinger at the end, but that's probably just me.

2. Writing a Letter

Jesus Teague. I expected songs like Christmas Lights and ICPoS, but I did not expect this. I expected you to make me laugh, not almost make me cry. And I love it. This convinced me that you're not just a gimmick, you really have to chops for this (not that I thought you were a gimmick before, this just proved it).

3. I Feel More Like a Leonard

With it's guitars and backing vocals, this song feels like it wants to be epic, but it's less than 2 and a half minutes long. It kinda feels like you didn't have a way out of the song so we get these odd, out of place "Hey!"s over a guitar solo to end it. Get rid of the "Hey!"s and have it epic guitar solo into another verse or even just the chorus again and I think this song much improves.

4. This Insidious Communist Propaganda of Steve

What? Why do I have this fantastic song way down here? Because it way overstays it's welcome. Half of this song is Andy's drunken ranting, and while it's funny, having now listened to this song a significant number of times, I find myself just waiting for the song to end for most of it. Part of it is that he's not actually louder that the lah-da-da-da's so he's hard to understand and part of it is that he's just not as funny the 12th time. Is cutting it worth missing out on the fantastic hilarity that is this song the first time you hear it? Probably not. But he could have been made easier to understand, and maybe he should have kept it a little shorter.

5. Blank Walls and Crowded Shelves

It feels like a disservice to put any of these songs last, but something has to be. I liked this one the least when I first listened, and since then it has really grown on me. Here, I think, is why: You're telling us this story, but it's from a disconnected 3rd person view until we get to the locket. Then the song swells and switches to the first person with strong emotions that invest us in this story. But at this point we're already most of the way through the song, so it's not until the next time that you listen, already invested in the story, that the song really works.

Over all I think it's great, especially for a first effort, and I can't wait for the next one. Which I would totally help Kickstart if necessary. wink

I don't watch much anime, but I have seen Fate/Zero and I loved it. I was going to watch Fate/Stay Night, and my friends (who do watch a lot of anime) say it isn't nearly as good.

Man, why is I Feel More Like a Leonard on the bottom of everyone's lists? It's the one that lodged itself firmly in my head and wont leave. Seriously, I should be charging it rent or something.

At last I can follow through on a promise I made to you nearly 4 years ago and buy your album. Can't wait to give it a listen.

For some reason the casualness of the statement after BDA's manicness gave me a good giggle. Care to announce the release date?

Maybe he's waiting to release it on the two year anniversary of this thread, in which case we only need to wait 5 more months

I'd like to point out that crossguard lightsabers aren't new:

Poke. Poke poke poke.
