I'm too dumb to understand Synecdoche and dumb enough to believe I understood Tree of Life. But I can't take any list that neglects Ghostbusters seriously.

Unfair as it may be, the movie is tied to my predictive abilities. I paid to go see Green Lantern, but I had a good idea that it was gonna suck hard. It did, and the Jack Daniels helped make for a good time. Everyone's happy. The Artist was supposed to be great, but it wasn't. So I rate it worse than I might have going in with zero expectations. So it's a sliding scale, what I give a film walking in.

As rtambree said, I paid money. And while I take advertising with a grain of salt, if you bill yourself as a comedy you damn sure better make me laugh.

I began P90X many moons ago and I remember it kicking my ass. I'll starting back up this week.

Also, Matt, shake out/rub your muscles more after you've worked them. That helps relieve soreness for free.

I want the biggest role you have, and I want to speak only in terms of Space Jam. My understanding of life is framed by Space Jam.

You know how I sound.

I agree with Dorkman that Jodie's looks don't exactly live up to the hype. Of course she nails the intelligence and venerability the role demands (and that's way more important). But recasting in my mind, Portman would win the Clarice role.

Agree, Duelist. Teague really is a good actor. When we sets his sights on a beat he hits it and hits it consistently. It wasn't a series of lucky takes.

TDK was the most riveting film experience I've had as an adult. But that cost a lot in terms of plausibility. This movie is the poster child for Fridge Logic. So much of what the Joker does relies on a VERY specific set of circumstances. The cell phone gut bomb, for example. He had to know 1), a cop was going to be in the room with him, 2) over power him and take him hostage, 3) hope the gut bomb guy would be in the same cell he was taken to, 4) that he wouldn't be taken to a hospital sooner, 5), that he would be close enough to NOT get blown up when he triggered the bomb, but that everyone else would be knocked out, 6), that he'd even get the phone in the first place.

The movie is FULL of that shit. But I still love it as an experience.

EDIT:

Gotham City is just Chicago, and that's lame. It's a flat, boring-looking movie with an obnoxious blue tint.

Say it to my face, C-SPIN and you can tell everyone how you got those scars.

That. And mostly every episode of 24. The most shocking being the first 5 minutes of season 5.

And while not shocking, the episode 3 Stories in House made me go, "oooh." Once I understood what it was doing.

I love the FUCK out of your city iJim.  Not sure it loves me though.  I got KO'd in my first pro fight there, and my ex is from there.  Not sure what Chicago is trying to tell me.

Hm. That doesn't *sound* like something Chicago would do. As default conciliator, drinks on me next time you're in town.

In B&R, Clooney is an Adam West impression. And not a very memorable one. But I'll allow for the possibility that he could have been great as a real-world Bruce Wayne. In Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, Batman comes out of retirement in his 60s because... who knows. But Clooney could probably play the HELL out of that incarnation. An old, grizzled, angry Wayne is something I'd love to see him do.

EDIT: This reminds me of Pierce Brosnan as Bond. He was perfect for the role, but he was stuck with terrible scripts (sans Tomorrow Never Dies, which I would argue is a top 3 Bond film).

Day of six makena?
Day of sex macana?

My kitchen is such an underachiever.

The two movies that convinced me were Salvation and GB2.  You guys nailed the multi-leveled T:S failure beautifully.  And Mike's GB2 line in the Halp video. After he said that I was like, "these are my people."

Best overall commentary is Titanic. I've listened to it more than once.

Our interests align.  I'm sick of festivals and mumblecore in this city.  We should pow-wow.

Excuse a gross oversimplification on my part.  But wouldn't the smartest thing for a filmmaker to do right now, in 2012, be to either:

A) strike up a relationship with Netflix/Hulu/Whatever as a newly formed distribution company to shell out a series of releases?  Which would be a good time to corral all those people you know who are making their own movies, you acting as an umbrella corp (I assume they have a minimum number of releases they'll expect from you in a year, so enjoy that paperwork),

or

B) buddy up with an existing low-rent distribution company that has an existing contract with Netflix that isn't expiring within the next 24 months?  And budget your film according to that?  YOU probably won't make any money, but it should recover costs, which, I assume, starting out, is what matters most.

I don't pretend to know anything.  But that's kind of my thumbnail business plan as I pulled it out of my ass.  It's subject to failure at the first sign of contrary fact.
