You can boil any action scene down to a sentence (and it's not out of the question that it was simply a sentence in the script). I think it's less about the ability to do that, and more about looking at a scene and asking the question Doctor Submarine mentions -- could this be cut out of the film entirely without affecting the narrative? If the answer is yes, you've got a problem.

I think this is why some action films get credit for being "smarter" than others. Christopher Nolan's films, for example, have their share of problems, but one thing they do very well is have a clear justification for their action beats, a clear mini-story where the outcome will determine the course of the rest of the film, and therefore the struggle actually matters to the narrative.

As opposed to a lot of action films which just have people/robots/whatever chasing and punching each other, and we're supposed to root for one side because we've been told they're the "good guys," even though we have no clear concept of what would happen if the "bad guys" triumphed.

This...I do agree with.

By that logic you could replace any movie with one sentence: "Things happen to people."

It's about how far down the chain you want to go, and where do you draw the line really?

This is of course assuming there even needs to be a stopping over station to recharge in the first place; there's a lot of really cool stuff out there right now for pumping up solar capturing technology and if that could be pushed to it's maximum there might not even be a need to stop to recharge ever.

(And yes I do realize the limitations from weather and the like, and that's something that will just have to be worked around. I think if we ever want to go %100 electric, it will have to be a combination of techniques anyways, and like Matt said, the electricity we use now HAS to come from somewhere.)

Is it just me or is the archive completely empty? I tried it on Chrome and Firefox but there's nothing listed in there, and the search doesn't yield anything either.

Somewhere around Apollo 13-14 I believe it was.

It's scary how closely this image resembles what I remember. But imagine crossing this, with the characters from Cube, but with Riddick leading them.

Just watched the Thirteenth Floor and half of VideoDrome, neither of them look familiar.

Alright, kind of a random one. But I am working on creating some jet afterburners for the ship and have hit a bit of a snag. I'm using maya particles. I built the effect static and it looks great, but as soon as I attach it to the ship (Which is moving) the particles all just end up streaming straight out behind the ship, not actually going straight out like it should be. I've tried messing with the velocity and lifespan, but I can't get it to look right. What I would really like to be able to do is just bake the particles with the emitter static and then parent that to the ship.

Any ideas?

This is actually what I thought the thread was about going in.

I'm glad I'm not the only one.

I've been doing 3D stuff way to much lately.

I liked the original Torchwood well enough, but it still had that early NewWho stench about it, but Children of Earth was awesome, and I nearly freaking started drooling on the floor with how much I loved the Miracle Day premiere. But I do agree, Jack was nowhere near flamboyant enough.

I'm actually really quite surprised at how well Miracle Day would work for those who know nothing about Torchwood, if anything it would actually make it a little more like the mystery they're trying to set up through the first episode with the whole; "Who is Torchwood?" thing they've got going.

The cold war ended a while  back you know. And isn't NASA looking pretty seriously into more private companies to continue space exploration? That's the last I heard.
