Juuuuust for the record, you could name me pretty much any movie you don't think makes sense and I could provide an explanation for it, too.
That it can make sense doesn't necessarily mean it makes good sense, or is a story well told.

So, Matt, what's Riddick about?
Good post, man.
For the most part, I agree with Zap.
First of all, you guys did a great job with this commentary. It was entertaining and constructive, without being a total slam fest, which I don't think you want to do. You guys made me think...for good or ill.
Thanks dude.
"The fate of the universe rests with a murderous loner to try and stop a marauding army led by a crazy half-dead."
You forgot Space Jesus, but sure. The problem I could hear Dorkman having with my point about a clean sentence, even at the time, is that ultimately you can boil anything down to a sentence, what's actually more telling is how much you have to leave out of the sentence.
In the case of Pitch Black, I think "A spaceship transporting a convict crashes on a planet of nocturnal monsters during a total eclipse, and only the convict can get them through it" basically sums up everything in the movie, where your sentence - while not inaccurate - doesn't encapsulate everything. Hence, Riddick is a bit more convoluted.
The other reason my point about a one-sentencer isn't quite valid is that some things that are truly good can't be described in a sentence either. (I can't think of any, at the moment, but.)
We are told they will "kill or convert" every human being. In this way, they are not different than the Borg or the Empire in their desire to dominate the galaxy.
Can't speak intelligently about the Borg because I've been busy having sex my whole life, but I always thought of the Empire more as the galactic police, with a drop of corruption, not an uprising army. So it's a bit easier for me to buy the Empire.
I'm not a fan of the movie regardless of its sequel status. It's just extra baffling that it is a sequel, to a movie it in no way resembles.
Pitch Black couldn't even be argued to be a test film, because the universe, rules, and scope are completely different. What were they testing? Just Riddick? "I wonder if Vin Diesel wearing goggles will reflect photons well enough that he could be exposed on film alongside other actors." "Before we do anything, we should make a tightly plotted little survival thriller to test it out."
I have to go with Jimmy on this one. If someone made a movie followed by a sequel that had virtually nothing in common at all with the first movie, the burden is not on me to watch the second movie first. The burden is on the second movie to make sense. It's not my fault it's in the same franchise, they could have named it Indiana Jones. (With similar results, but.)
Riddick is a weird mess, some people like weird messes. Even I like them occasionally. (Snow Crash, Sucker Punch.) The thing is, though, "weird mess" is a status, not a genre, and it's even more mileage-may-vary than a controversial genre would be.
Leave notes for us to discuss, I look forward to conversation.
Ha! Dude, do it.
So, even though it's unreleased, our Zombieland commentary so angered Zarban and Pavlich that they joined forces as Tysto and Sofa Dogs to do a commentary of...I'd say Zombieland, but basically it's a commentary of our fuckin' commentary.
I was grinning like an idiot throughout this whole thing.
You could have just hit us, y'know.
lol wtf twohy
Sorry Matt.
Zarbs, you're welcome to post that episode if you want. We're just gonna keep it in Easter Egg territory over here, but it's real, mixed, and everything. Knock yourself out.
Zarban, you utter bitch.
Spoiler: It's Riddick. Coming in a couple hours, sorry.
UHF is unlikely to come out as an "official" release, because I think we'll ultimately decide it's not DIF-y enough. I mean, it's a comedy, and it's three people, and only one of them is a regular. The other two, Chad and Chris, are one-commentary-eachers. Might be too much for people to take, as far as changing-the-formula goes.
That said, if you're clever, /audio/uhf-mixed dot emm pee three might be a thing.
The sun and accompanying glow is a little white for the color it's shining on the clouds. I'd make it more peach/yellow.
Side note: that was literally the closest I could get to a picture of Doc Brown with his bulletproof vest.
Probably Explorers or Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Sudden, yes. But inevitable.
Marry her.

*makes out with Zarban, chains him to a post*
Ha.
Well, one the one hand, the picture you posted is a spoiler. On the other, it got me to watch it. Fair that.
The girl was really good, actually, you should use her in lots of stuff.
I'm a little worried about George becoming Howard Hughes. Or worse, Prince.
As I say in the ep, I think he had a show on...BET, maybe? Could have been MTV#, but it was like a breakdancing competition show. I used to catch it flipping through channels.
You're being sarcastic, but I'm gonna say you're welcome anyway, because you're welcome.
