"Underwhelming" is decidedly the word that pops to my mind a lot lately with Game of Thrones, especially with this last episode.

I think they handled changes with major events from the books pretty well (the Brienne and Sandor thing was really cool) but the overall directing/screenplay feels duller and duller to me. Shae and Tywin's murders lacked impact, probably because of the dialogue. There was none with Shae, which I think was a mistake, and the Tywin scene kind of missed the point, as Ewing pointed out. Maybe they didn't need to use the Tysha story, but they really could have done better if using only Shae.

This particular chapter is among my favourites in the books, because it's a huge payoff to everything Tyrion has endured beforehand. The dialogue in the book makes it the last straw for Tyrion; the show makes it somewhat cold-blooded.

Don't get me wrong, it was still a good episode. But I was expecting it to be more than that.

Wait...are we supposed to be cheering for Stannis?? He's dull and an asshole, worse than that he's a dull asshole. If you asked me to tell you Stannis's plotline, I would get about as far as "Dull guy looks out on grey landscape and moans about not being king." Before I run out of things to say. The only thing that makes his entire storyline worth anything is Davos and the Red Woman, and even she isn't actually doing anything these days outside of staring mysteriously at random people and then disappearing.

Stannis is the only one who actually pays attention to the one true threat the Seven Kingdoms are facing: what's coming from the North. That's what makes his arrival badass in the books, but the way it was handled in the show was a bit underwhelming.

I think the worst part is how in two seconds, you go from a badass handsome character having the upper hand to a toothless blind wreck getting his head smashed in. The contrast is what makes his death so violent (also, you know, the gore).

It actually hit me harder than the Red Wedding, oddly.

This is fantastic.

I pretty much agree with everything here. Stoneheart would be one hell of a final shot for the season.

I didn't quite feel the transformation in Sansa in the books as I did in the show, especially with tonight's episode. They nailed it.

PS : don't know where they're going with this Greyworm/Missandei subplot but it's boring me.

Yep, my theory is confirmed. Teague's voice makes me all warm and fuzzy every time.

This show is so god damn great. I swear to God. I wasn't expecting any of this. It's like the showrunner grabbed my head, smashed it through my monitor and said "Read the title of the show again, motherfucker. Read it.".

Are there many people who do listen to FIYH with the movie?  That isn't snark, but an honest question.  I know the show is formatted around that premise, but most people seem to have a specific place in their lives for podcasts, such as the car, the gym, or at work.  Do many people actually listen to it in perfect sync?

I always do, which is why I listen to the podcast less regularly than some. I really like to have the film playing with it. A good time for that is when I'm working on my computer (it sure helps pass roto time, heh).

How so? It doesn't change anything to me. I've been waiting all season for this scene, and I'm satisfied. Bitch be dead, yo.

Yes, ok. I want to watch this.

EDIT: the main character dude looks like what would happen if Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Guy Pearce decided to have a son.

I'd been waiting for a scene where I could go "Wow okay, they nailed that part from the book" for a few episodes. This was the one.

In a post-LOTR world, Conan The Barbarian feels incredibly dated; it's clearly an artifact of its era.

Well, we'll see how Interstellar turns out. I'm pretty pumped, mostly thanks to McConaughey.

First time I saw Dredd was with some friends, and I thought it was terrible simply because the mood was "Judge Dredd was terrible, so Dredd must be terrible". We chose to laugh at everything simply because of our expectations.

Then I saw it again while listening to the WAYDM commentary, and I completely walked back on that. It's not my favorite movie in the world, but it has its strengths.

I still think Karl Urban wasn't the best choice, though. He looks a bit ridiculous with this big-ass helmet.

Well, I watched Her yesterday night and I've got to agree with pretty much everything TechNoir said. What a beautiful, beautiful movie. Joaquin Phoenix is exceptional.

Would it be possible, though, to separate the episode spoilers from what is seen in the next episode promos and Hannibal Lecter in other works? I know it's not very practical, but promos are forbidden territory for myself, and I don't know anything about this fictional world apart from the show and Silence of the Lambs. smile

Hannibal S02E10 Show
I'm reading an interesting theory about the last part of the episode: Freddie Lounds is still alive and playing along with Will to help him catch Hannibal. I got so caught up in the tension I didn't think this at all while watching the episode, but it actually makes perfect sense.

Still, what Will did with the corpse of Randall Tier is pretty extreme. With the first episode's prologue, my guess is that Will's plan is going to succeed, but in what context and with which consequences for Will, I have no idea.

Gotta love the sex scene, too. The show has a way of handling and showing this dual scene of sex mixed up with intricate psychology that's properly incredible. I was astounded.

Also, long pig is another way of calling cannibalism, Wikipedia tells me.
