I'm just amused given how positive all the early reviews were. I saw some site rating the first episode of every Doctor, and this was was the best. As for jumping the shark, remember which series this is. it has gone over and under countless sharks, yet always manages to find another motorcycle we want to see it ride.

Doctor Who jumping the shark?

That's cute.

There is a theory that just like circumcision was mandated to replace killing the first born male child, Jesus was sacrificed to replace replace circumcision AND animal sacrifices. God doesn't change what he needs, just the form it takes.

(it actually was a female wisdom goddess who demanded human sacrifice, and they got rid of her when they went to one god just before the Babylonian exile. Many, naturally, blamed tossing her out of the Temple for that disaster, so I'm sure there were some backsliders)

Actually, archeological evidence indicates that Israelite communities were more monotheistic than the surrounding Canaanite villages discovered. It was very interesting to read about that, and how ancient societies would regard child sacrifice. Especially in relation to the Binding of Isaac, or Akedah.

One aspect of the Flood story, regardless of origin, is just the fact that several societies have a Flood epic. It would have been interesting to me to explore the different facets from each story, Gilgamesh, there is a Hindu story, a Greek one, and several others (don't have the book in front of me, so I don't have the specific story names).

This is one movie that I may not agree with, but am glad it was made. I have often wondered if the biblical epic style movies, like Ten Commandments or Ben-Hur, could be made in the modern age,  and it is nice to see that it is possible.

To that must be added Teague-Boring: something of no interest because you lack the cultural awareness every other human has and the movie assumes its viewers do.

Man, everyone is just all over me on this one — doesn't it seem a little harsh to make it my fault for not being blown away by a movie? Does anyone really want to be held to that standard? I had the same problem with 2001, after all, because I started the movie being blown away by the wonders of space and the enormity of it all, and just had to sit there while the movie was slowly but surely trying to make its point that I should be blown away by the wonders of space and enormity of it all. Same deal. I lack the "cultural awareness" of the jaded-people-in-1968 audience that Stanley was playing to, just as much as I lack the "cultural awareness" of... I dunno, the people who thought Noah was always a nice little story? Or had always wanted other people to acknowledge that it wasn't? Or, whatever. Whoever Aronofsky was playing to.

Movie just wasn't for me, that's all. Tons of movies aren't for me, just like tons of movies aren't for you. I'm not sure why this case is being singled out.

I think we're looking at the ESB-Emperor  head and shoulders hologram, except you'll be coming from a wrist projector, and smallish to maybe just life-size. Also shoot your hooded self from 180 deg behind and your back-right quadrant for the reverse angles.

Check the rough cut for the eye lines, or: 1st line you'll be looking maybe 45 degrees up at Niken, the final lines you're on a level with Straya. Or do Holograms not have eyelines? Maybe shadow out your eyes to avoid the question?

Doing a Sidious holo?

Have the hood pulled down over the eyes?

Or, if you have a paintball mask you can throw that on with a hood.

A bump because of reasons.

Actually, on a LOTR fan forum a poster who is doing research and writing a book regarding the Hobbit films is looking for opinions from those who DO NOT like the Hobbit films. I will post the questions here, as well relevant forum information. I have offered to relay any answers if you don't want to add to your list of forum registrations. Feel free to PM me the answers.

1. Who would you say portrayed their character the best in this series and why? (This is not to say their character was or was not nearest to the book, I simply want to know which actor you feel fit best into their role and why)

2. Play devil's advocate. Choose what you think Peter Jackson's biggest mistake was up to this point and defend his decision. Then tell me as an audience member, why you don't like it.

Finally, 3. Two of the most iconic scenes/conversations in the books were "Riddles in the Dark" and "Inside Information." Explain how Bilbo's conversations with Gollum and Smaug in the films enhanced (or didn't) the story and what these scenes did (or didn't do) for these characters.

Poster's website: http://shelliekennedy.com/

There is no obligation for anyone here, but I thought we might be able to help with some quick research smile

Yes, or maybe a bit of sequel/remake combination. Ray Walston's character is supposed to be the same:

I still enjoy this movie and once again find myself not understanding the reactions I have seen. Must be a childhood nostalgia or something.

I would love to hear the Martian vocal track

Thanks to Screwball and BDA for this goddamned horror. I will love it for the rest of my life.

holden

Since I don't have a BDA or screwball image to post here.

This is a long quote from E.B. White about writing, but it is what inspires me to this day. I hope you find it helpful smile

(I put in bold the part that really sticks out to me)

You asked me about writing--how I did it. There is no trick to it. If you like to write and want to write, you write, no matter where you are or what else you are doing or whether anyone pays any heed. I must have written half a million words (mostly in my journal) before I had anything published, save for a couple of short items in St. Nicholas. If you want to write about feelings, about the end of summer, about growing, write about it. A great deal of writing is not "plotted"--most of my essays have no plot structure, they are a ramble in the woods, or a ramble in the basement of my mind. You ask, "Who cares?" Everybody cares. You say, "It's been written before." Everything has been written before.

For me (and I am always worried about ripping people off, intentionally or unintentionally) that does not sound like a concept I've heard before. Or, rather, a concept that is common enough to have it be something that would sound like you ripped it off.

The concept of a living ship is not new, but that idea sounds a little more fresh, to me. The only thing I can think of that it reminds me of is the Hunters from Halo. They are not a mold but a worm like creature that can form together to create larger creatures to do specific tasks.

That's my two cents. It may help to hit TV Tropes and look at living ships and see if anything sounds familiar. Link: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/LivingShip

His stand up was a brutally honest form of comedy that I found rather entertaining. Enjoyed Mrs. Doubtfire, Jumanji (to a point), Bicentennial Man (in small doses) and Patch Adams. He had a guest spot on Law and Order: SVU in which he played a man who was a domestic terrorist (of sorts) and enjoyed psychological games.

However, Aladdin was always my favorite, and probably the first film that made me pause and recognize the actor behind the voice. I was amazed by his talent from then on.

Also, seeing him do improv work on Whose Line Is It Anyway was another wonderful showcase of his comedic talent.

He will be missed sad

There's also a difference between a talented person who rests on laurels and/or gets lazy (Kevin Smith) and someone who never had it to begin with. Shamaylan, to me, is the latter. The fact that The Sixth Sense is such a good movie seems almost like an accident when you look (if you dare) at everything else he's done.

Well, it seems that he tried to capitalize on "The Twist" that worked in "6th Sense." I thought he was doing pretty good with "Unbreakable" and "The Village" but that was really the last of his work that I found interesting or engaging.

I would agree that Shamaylan may have had more of a lucky streak, and depended too much on the one type of filming trick, causing a quick fizzle.

Thanks to red for that. Yeah, i didn't think it was a real panel, but it was one of this things were it was silly enough to be real.

Also, I like that panel because it is much more interesting take on the Predators view against the Xenomorphs.

Granted, Predator 2 didn't really blow the doors off the box office, either.

Which only makes the decision to make movies about it even more questionable, really.

I keep trying to read comics...not sure why it doesn't stick for me hmm

Given the nature of the comics and the toys that spun off those creations, I think the fact that we got AVP in its form is a bit surprising.

Have I mentioned had good the actors are in this? Because, personally, I know people complain about working with children, but I really like their performances. Niken especially, gives a great death scene.

Can anyone fabricate a Oscar looking thing for them?

Dave, I like the pacing of the last cut, but the cuts of Straya walking don't feel connected to me, if that makes sense. I wish I had a better term for it, but that's how it looks to me.

Please, someone professional save me from my amateur hour.

So, now there is candy. In LA...just my luck.
