From the first time I saw LOTR I have always maintained that the Galadriel's prologue took it’s cue from the opening scene of Dune.

Princess Irulan Introduction - Dune (1984)

Lord Of The Rings - Opening scene

I’m not saying they were stealing the opening but I think they were clearly playing on the same themes.

I’ve been thinking about how you start or open a movie and how much the tone in the first few minutes inform how you view the rest of the movie. But more than just the obvious cues, tone and style I also think there is a meta info in the opening scenes. It’s something that affects us on a subconscious level. Here we are acutely aware of the rich history of the world we are entering. Dune was a sci-fi and LOTR a fantasy but essentially they are telling epic stories filled with history, mythology, technology, biology etc. for us to explore, discover.

Dune did not have the visuals accompanying the dialogue but image how cool that would have been. But instead we got Virginia Madsen and that’s alright by me.

Or maybe I’m just talking out of my ass...

Used to listen to a lot of Scottish music.
The Jesus and Mary Chain, Arab Strap, Belle & Sebastian, Mogwai, Travis and bands like that.
Love the story in New Birds.

Game Of Thrones for sure. You can read LOTR while waiting for the rest of the books from George R. R. Martin.

A little on Scandinavia

Scandinavia includes Denmark and two of the Scandinavian Peninsula's countries, Norway and Sweden. The other Nordic countries, Finland and Iceland are often incorrectly grouped with the Scandinavian region.

This confuses a lot of people and I've even heard this mistake made by people from all of those countries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland) who couldn't keep this straight.

My reading habits are schizophrenic at best.
Currently I'm reading
- Grafísk Miðlun -  On graphic design
- The Five C's of Cinematography
- Noble House - James Clavell
- Shock Wave - Clive Cussler (hate, hate hate that author)
- Sects 'Cults' & Alternative Religions
- Karitas (unpublished children's book written by a friend of mine).

The glacier (jökull) Vidina is refering to is called Eyjafjallajökull.
Did not make us popular (like we needed that since the global financial crash in 2008).

Looking to the north and on the background behind the dome like structure (called The Pearl) you can barely see Snæfellsjökul. The glacier where the entrance to a passage leading to the center of the earth was located in Jules Verne's "A Journey to the Center of the Earth".

Great episode but one question.
Why does Gonzo intro the episode with the line "And here we go!"?

Interesting ideas.

The Long Kiss Good Night fits the template.

How about Sarah Connor's storyline in the Terminator franchise?

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988) Teaser Trailer

For many years I've been quoting this teaser trailer. It was on a old video I had when I was young(er). I could recite it word for word. And I did many a times when drunk in days of yore smile

We are film nerds and whenever the subject of teaser trailers comes up this one is my go to move as my favorite.

From time to time I've been looking for it on the net but I never found it.
Today I checked just out of habit and here it is in all it's glory.

To me it's the perfect teaser trailer. No spoilers for the story but still drags us into the world of the movie.

Great episode!

Found this from Fincher on The Social Network.

The Social Network (2010): "You don't get scripts like that every day. You don't get a studio coming to you saying, 'We just fucking love this script. Let's make it into a movie.' So often people are mitigating against the disaster or trying to cover the downside and saying, 'Well, OK, look, the script is great, but...' ['Can you make something out of it?'] Yeah. I mean, 'Who can you get who will make us feel good about the investment?' And when you come back and you say, 'How about Jesse Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield and Armie Hammer, and Justin Timberlake?' They go, 'That sounds great!' You can't turn that stuff down."

It's going, but we have a massive cleanup on our hands. The Banksters, politicians and the "business men" really screwed us. We had the pot and pan revolution here. There are so many similarities between our revolution to your Occupy movements. The economic crash completely destroyed us.

Our new government has not done as well as we hoped but minor progress has been made. So far not one person has been jailed (few temporarily for investigation purposes). No one's been arrested and no one prosecuted. Many of the fuckers responsible are still in business and with every semester it seems less and less likely they will ever pay for their actions.

I am an admin for a blog which is not really active any more but documented the crash, the revolution and the re-building that has taken place since then. If you are interested you can check it out here.

Thanx
Björk is highly regarded here by most but you can always find haters. She is recognized to be the most famous Icelander ever. But keep in mind we are a dinky little island in the Atlantic with only 320.000+ souls so we knew here before she was super famous. Ten years ago I was in a party with her for more than 3 hours without knowing she was there. It took americans to freak out for us to notice. She comes from a punk background and was always a little off center even then.
