Apart from the brilliant Sweeney Todd, this is the best Sondheim adaptation to make it to screen thus far, but that doesn't make it the perfection that the stage show is. On the contrary, while many of its cuts are wise a few are horribly ill-advised and result in a third act that feels incredibly rushed. Some of the casting was spot-on, but Johnny Depp is distracting as The Wolf, and Daniel Huttlestone is far too young for Jack. The most annoying thing had to be the singing. Half of the vocal performances were pitch-shifted to hell and back; on some it was only noticeable as an unsettlingly shiny-sounding feel, but on others the garbled sliding is completely up front and is horribly distracting. Sondheim's songs don't require note-perfect vocal performances, and trying to "fix" the ones here by computerizing them does his music a horrible disservice.

"The most annoying thing" in a Sondheim thing... is the singing?! If people are willing to accept noticable pitch correction in a Sondheim production then, I'm call time on music. I don't want to live in that world

So I watched Tusk. Not much to say about it... I thought it was was quite funny. I had to parse off a section of my brain to watch it. Let alone the stealing of it online 'cos it's not in theatres around my way - the UK. I don't profess to be the greatest of movie fans and/or know the ins and outs of the business... but, I've discerned some things by osmosis. Johnny Depp could have been cut out of the whole movie and I think it would have been better. He was just shit in it.  I grown bored through his parts. So, if they were cut completely I wouldn't have missed them. Plot wise... pretty much follows the pod cast version of his ready of the Gum tree advert - slightly embellished. For an indie film - still happy... it made me laugh... made me cringe... so I guess it worked. Yet, wanted better from him. I think I've lost faith in Kevin Smith - the guy having seen some of his responses to Tusk's reviews on twitter. He only made Tusk for Clerks 3... or sumfin'. I liked tusk - its not without flaws... I feel he's already making excuses up for his inability to make good films. Yet, I still like them... just wished he'd stop being a bitch/ smile
