Chat was good last night, I can't usually make the live DIF sessions weekends being what they are around here.  It nice to participate, but everyone else knows that already.

I think I'll buy one of those DVDs, but more than the commentaries and whatnot, I'm interested in the long version of the indie distribution process as you've experienced it, Chad.  Something in a tutorial to save others from part of that learning curve, because you know, I've got a friend looking for indie distribution hints.

WooHoo! It's here!

Our interests align.  I'm sick of festivals and mumblecore in this city.  We should pow-wow.

I'm down.

Realsies?  I'll most likely continue trying to make enough money by climbing the rail industry hierarchy to fund my other, more cockeyed notions.  In order from least to most dutched: Release the definitive true-to-the-book Wonderful Wizard of Oz film; I'd like to see the film industry in Chicago bloom to rival those on the coasts, and may some day attempt to throw money at that idea; I want to bring back the airship in Earth culture once and for all; Anchor a floating community to the seabed, somplace tropical would be nice, and build a space elevator.

I think you're right on target iJim. I don't think Hollywood will go away anytime soon, but there is much to bemoan about what they're producing nowadays.
A less consumerist, more merit-based system of financing for the kind of fillms that have become the realm of 'indies,' would do well and could change the game.

I'd love to hear thoughts or suggestions on how to get in with one of those.

1. The Wizard of Oz
2. Unforgiven
3. My Favorite Martian
4. Batman Returns
5. Close Encounters of the Third Kind
6. Citizen Kane (but only in character as crew members)

Hell yeah, DIF, TFN, we've e-known each other for years, it'd be excellent to actually meet you.  Señor Vayda can vouch for me being the non-threatening type of crazed wacko, we snuck him into the front row at the Shuttle Endeavour launch.  Hopefully I can keep my phone out of the ocean on the western shore.

We'll be flying into Seattle and staying just outside of Pacific Beach State Park.
Lots of other B&Bs in town there, always a better deal than hotels.

Apology accepted! I like that you've raised awareness of the popularity of summit-y activity.

I don't usually like to announce my own travel plans for security purposes, but in a somewhat limited circle like this one I'll say that I'm heading for the Pacific Northwest next June to better view the Transit of Venus.  We'll be staying with distant family who own a cozy B&B on the beach-- seriously in the surf-- about 100 miles south of Vancouver.  I call Sunset bonfire party on the strand on the 5th, telescopic and photographic equipment recommended, clouds permitting.  There's also an eclipse that week.

I'd have brought my fireplace and smoking jacket.
Classed your shit up, and stuff.

I've been sitting here placing bets on which of my girls will win the next squabble over dolls.  You guys sooo missed out.

Seriously, though, open invite.  I've got people in the city you should meet, theater people.

I feel jealous and slightly snubbed. hmm

It's okay, I guess, you guys have your parties without me.  I mean, <snif>, I know I'm not one of the 'cool' kids everyondy wants to hang out with, or be seen with, or ride on the same bus with...but I have feelings, darn it!

Wicked.  Watching that forum for the model import function to come online.

Just watched it at the insistence of my father.  Largely excellent VFX integration, fabulous concept. I was also disappointed in the end, but isn't that a mark of a good storyteller: "always leave them wanting more?"

I wish I had gotten the sense that the writer knew why the TSS wants to keep trolls secret and alive as opposed to wholesale eradication or endangered/protected status, or even how secrecy could be possible over the long run.  You might need a more men-in-black style team to keep it hushed up...the christian thing could give you a church cover-up tie-in as well.

Sequel pitches?

Ah finally, one I can address.  High school sweetheart, sexual dynamo, each of us at different schools a few hours apart.  One weekend she calls to tell me she's sick and can't meet me in the middle for the usual stuff, next weekend I run into a pal of mine who tells me he ran into her in a club downtaon while she was 'sick.' Straw that pinched the last nerve in that camel's back, etc., etc.

Same weekend, in largely unrelated Karmic news, she tracks me down where I'm staying to weep and cry about her car being broken into and robbed (I was seriously nowhere near her that night, honest).  I played the cold unfeeling bastard and let her know she'd lied to me for the last time, click.  Early next morning I wake up to her pounding on the front door wanting to 'talk.'  I pack up and head out to drive myself away, my side of the converation well past over.  She gets in her car, and proceeds to chase me all over town, blowing red lights, fish-tailing through intersections, the whole time her Lebaron's cut-open convertible top flapping in the winter chill.  I finally lost her, and have been clean ever since.  She's into chicks exclusively now, so watch out ladies!

Have you ever almost died?

Interested.  How does Nietzsche fit in at all with that film?  I just figured Stanley liked the way the music sounded.

I've always been jealous of film schoolers.  You/They have a strong spirit and desire for the craft. While earning my engineering BS we made a gag film for a party every semester, but it was always like pulling teeth to get equipment and personnel.

Listening to "Snatchers '78" today, I got the itch to request "12 Monkeys" during the discussion of psychotic ranting people.  You might could upsell me there with a Gilliam-themed festival, or carnival if you'd prefer.

If anyone here does not like The Black Keys, you will burn with the rest when the last day comes. And you should watch this:

for the puppetry, of course, unless you also happen to share my interest in juggsploitation.

Just watched part two of that 'other' Moby Dick (2010) movie/mini-series.  I was surprised at how similar the whale VFX were to the ones in 2010 Moby Dick.

That's a helpful way to think about it.  We may have to pay the pro piper and submit the thing as 'in develoment' and see how that goes.

A pretty well-along project I'm working on has been trying to get a film listing on IMDb.com for months now.  For some reason they keep asking for more info, and then rejecting the request anyway.  Latest was a firm, verifiable release date.

I've seen many projects get up there that have no where near as much actual filmed material as we've got, so what are they doing that we're not? Do you have to have a 'pro' account? Is there a casting couch somewhere?
