A lot of those are good, but pretty specific. Trey doesn't want anything that ties the show to commentaries.

He also doesn't want to buy a house, car, or dog with us. He doesn't even want to merge bank accounts, even tho we make way more money than him.

AND LAST WEEK I FOUND A BLONDE POST ON HIS FORUM JACKET.

So I'm watching MST3K's take on I Was a Teenage Werewolf, with Michael Landon, right? And the cops are investigating the first killing, and one cop says this to the chief about any circuses or farms in the area that might have wild animals:

Cop Who Played the Dad on Lost in Space wrote:

There's a mink farm about three miles north of here. But they're all baby mink. First thing they do is cut off their teeth.

And for some reason the chief does NOT say:

Chief Who Looks Like Mr. Weatherbee from Archie Comics wrote:

No way! What the fuck?! Are you serious? They do that?! That is fucked up! Is that legal? Shouldn't we arrest them for animal cruelty? This is 1957, for godsake, not the Dark Ages!

Right now we're just looking to pin down the uber-name, which shouldn't be movie-commentary-specific.

Oh I see what's going on here. Maybe this is the brand example I should have used.

As far as how it gets catalogued on your movie commentary site, sure.  But not anywhere else that I'm aware of.

They have different feeds. I subscribe to Down in Front - The Intermission on my iPad and to Down in Front (commentaries) on my laptop.

Doctor Submarine wrote:

The commentary episodes have been non-numbered since the format switch. One podcast can have multiple types of episodes. Down in Front only has two - discussion and commentary. No reason to split them up.

They're already split up. They have different numbering, different names, different content, and different feeds.

There is a reason why PepsiCo restaurants are called Taco Bell and Pizza Hut and (formerly) Kentucky Fried Chicken instead of KenTacoHut. It's the same reason Teague called the non-commentaries Intermission and why Trey's mom called his older brothers Ace and Deuce.

When other podcasts sometimes do the occasional commentary, they almost always label them "special episode" or change the numbering. It's convenient to have different names for things that seem different so they can be referred to separately.

I say call the website community Friends In Your Head.com or something but call the two different podcasts two different things. Then you can expand with Eddie's Always Be Fighting Podcast and Brian's Vasquez Rocks Star Trek Podcast and Michael's Dorkman Tells It Like It Is Podcast.

A year or so ago, the podcast stopped being just movie commentaries, so I don't think we should put "movie commentaries" in the official name.

The commentaries are one podcast, and the Intermission is a different podcast. Leo Laporte doesn't put all his content in one feed and call it The Leo Laporte Show. He has a dozen different podcasts, all with specific content and names related to that content. Guess what iPad Today is about....

Wrong. It's about BRANDING. They're ALL about branding.

My short list is now...

Press Play Film Commentaries
Fridge Logic Film Commentaries
Cahuenga Labs Film Commentaries
Shark Brain Movie Commentaries
Back Row Commentaries
Third Act Trouble Fan Commentaries

I think Fridge Logic and Press Play would work best aloud and on merch and are clearest to potential listeners.

Please, PLEASE, nothing with "geek" in the name.

I just now got thru this thread (some of us have WebEx meetings and conference calls and spreadsheets and business work), but Kyle wins the Internets today. Also, I agree with Teague about everything, except maybe The Back Row. That's neither DWISOTT nor particularly intriguing.

Same thing happened to Adam Kempanaar with Cinephiles. He changed to Filmspotting, and the rest is history. (Very minor, Internet podcasting history).

However, frankly, I've never like the name Down in Front. It's an unwashed whore and a guttersnipe, and I say good riddance to bad rubbish.

I like Friends in Your Head, but I agree that it suggests self-help more than movies. I like Shark Brain, but agree that it doesn't say much at all. I like The Intermission, but it's not very accurate in the case of running commentary during the movie.

Maybe a more direct parallel to The Intermission is appropriate, like Fridge Logic or Hanging a Lantern.

Cliff Ravenscraft, the Podcast Answer Man, says that, as pedestrian as it seems, choosing an obvious title will get you an order of magnitude more listeners via iTunes and Google. I forget his personal example, but I guarantee that The Doctor Who Podcast got thousands of listeners immediately while The Podcast of Impossible Things struggled for a few hundred. So maybe Fridge Logic Film Commentaries or Shark Brain Movie Commentaries is the way to go.

That sort of thing is usually done with a stencil, right? The aged look is a little tricky. That particular image looks like the yellow was painted over the green and then suffered shrinkage cracking. But there's also some spots where the yellow didn't take, as if it was applied with a roller that wasn't fully loaded.

Tough case. Wouldn't you really rather just pin up a Justin Bieber poster? Anne Frank would have.

It was arranged by Chaz, and my understanding is that that marriage is over.

I watched Wreck-It Ralph and Life of Pi the other day. Ralph was a lot of fun, altho I thought some of the voices were kind of weak choices.

Pi was terrific, and I quite liked the semi-ambiguous ending. However, I really don't think that ending needed 45 minutes of setup. The whole first act could go, in my opinion, with the exception of shortened versions of the interview start and the story about Pi's name.

What is the deal with Robert De Niro now? Seriously. Did he lose a bet and have to start picking scripts at random out of a hat?

"Rings of Akhenaten" was a little bombastic, but I liked it quite a bit. I was taken aback to hear Radio Free Skaro was 2:1 against.

I'll put this here, because I would have loved for someone to point me to it. I discovered the iCatcher podcast app for the iPad a couple of days ago, and it has just blown me away. It cost 2 bucks and has EVERYTHING I've always wanted in a podcast utility.

Stream or download audio and video podcasts. Delete after listening. Set and remember playback speed  BY PODCAST (.75x, 1x, 1.25x, 1.5x, and 2x, and quite good quality). Set multiple custom hop back and forward values (button vs swipes). Set a sleep timer. Create playlists. Set priority for download. AND ABOUT A HUNDRED OTHER SETTINGS.

I love this app so much, I'm now likely to completely replace my trusty old Cowon J3, which is sleek and simple and has the rare ability to adjust playback speed and EQ, and also delete files. I may get an iPod and combine it's portability with iCatcher's.

The sort of related thing that I'm ecstatic about is McTube Pro ($7). You can find and download YouTube videos for later viewing. This allows me to cache episodes of QI, Jay Leno's Garage, and other video series for viewing while traveling, and I couldn't be happier.

Cool. He must be just returning to Chicago from Europe via British Airways with a Pan Am connection in NYC. Probably back from the Cannes Film Festival.

My schedule is notoriously rigid, but I'm interested. I don't know what Google Hangout is, but I would imagine Skype would work. I've had several people on that at once.

Regardless: good microphones, everyone. Ask yourself, "Do I have a microphone that is up to the task? Do I know how to avoid constantly bumping and/or puffing into the microphone? Can I position it away from hard surfaces to capture my voice without much reverb? Can I avoid capturing all the noise in my barracks/housing project/council estate/cell block?"

Does plot necessarily hinge on conflict? No. Such claims are a product of the West’s insularity.

Western culture is a lot of things. Insular is not one of them.

Also, there is implied internal conflict (call it tension, if you like) in both the girl deciding to give the boy a soda and the boy accepting it. If that weren't there, the story really would be just a series of events, like a Dick and Jane book.

See Jane. Jane gets the drink. See Dick. Jane gives the drink to Dick. Drink, Dick, drink!

Plenty of Western films depict internal conflicts instead of external conflicts. That's the difference between drama and genre. Some of them must follow this form. Most of them are probably dull as shit.

To the composers: have you ever heard of composers saving a good bit for a movie that is better than the one they're currently working on (or, at least, doesn't feature a wet Shelly Winters)?

Sorry if this was asked and answered. I'm only 14 hours into the podcast....
